A Promise Of New Wave Of Terror Across Europe

ISIS 1 Hicham Chaib poses with children making the ISIS salute

JOHN SHAMMAS

The Islamic State fighter Hicham Chaib said that the Brussels terror attacks which killed 28 people were just “a taste” of what is to come for Europe.

He’s the man at the front and centre of a twisted new video promising a fresh wave of terror across Europe following the Brussels atrocity – but what do we know about Hicham Chaib?

The ISIS coward is the chief executioner for the terrorist group.

A Belgian national, he is also known as Abu Hanifa al-Baljiki and was an organiser of the extremist group Sharia4Belgium.

He’s been involved in executions such as beheadings and crucifixions, and in a video that was posted on social media today he can be seen with a prisoner who is then shot dead.

While he was in Sharia4Belgium, he acted as head bodyguard for the group’s bosses.

But after fleeing to Syria, he began appearing in propaganda videos.

Now, he’s the ISIS chief executioner and head of the twisted group’s “religious police”.

He is seen in his home country as a major corrupting influence on vulnerable and troubled young people in Belgium who join ISIS ranks.

In the video he claims that Tuesday was just a “taste” of what is to come.

Terror At Brussels’ Airport

Terror 3

A third explosion has now hit the city at a Metro station near EU buildings after two blasts at Brussels Airport, it’s reported.

Several people have been killed and many more injured after a suspected terrorist attack at Brussels airport this morning.

Two loud explosions reportedly shook the building sending terrified passengers fleeing for their lives shortly after 8am local time.

Shots were fired and words in Arabic shouted before the blasts were heard near the American Airlines check-in desk in the departure hall, a Belgian news agency reported.

The airport is said to be on “lock down” with all flights cancelled and rail traffic towards the Belgian airport suspended.

Hundreds of people can be seen in a video fleeing the airport, as smoke billows from the building.

The blasts at Brussels Airport were a suicide attack, Belgian media are reporting.

At least 11 people have reportedly died in the attack and several more have been injured.

Two explosions were heard at the airport shortly after 8am local time.

The bombs were allegedly detonated close to the American Airlines check-in desk.

An American Airlines spokesman said: “We are aware of an incident at the Brussels airport departure hall and are taking care of our customers, employees and contractors. At this time, all of our employees and contractors are accounted for with no reported injuries.
“American Airlines flight 751 has been cancelled for today. When operations at the airport resume, we will re-accommodate our customers.”

The airport is currently in lockdown and flights are being diverted.

Heathrow Airport has said it is working with police in light of events at Brussels Airport this morning. It posted on Twitter: “In light of the events at Brussels Airport we are working with the police who are providing a high visibility presence at Heathrow.

“If flying to Brussels please check your flight status with your airline.”

The Foreign Office said: “We are liaising with the local authorities and stand by to help any British nationals who may have been affected by the incident at Brussels airport.”

Europe: Belgium’s War On Terror

Belgium Paris Attacks

Police stand near a barricade during an operation in the center of Brussels.

Belgium (CNN)Brussels: It’s a quaint but bustling city, famed for its picture postcard squares, its chocolate and its beer. But it is rapidly becoming infamous, too, as a fertile recruiting ground for jihadi fighters.

According to police, the carnage of the Paris attacks was plotted here, and it was in these streets that fugitiveSalah Abdeslam hid out in an apartment after abandoning his mission, dumping his suicide belt in a Parisian street and calling friends for help, after apparently driving his co-conspirators to their deaths.

That Abdeslam was caught at all appears to have been an enormous stroke of luck. Despite a massive security operation, the trail appeared to have gone cold, until police, initiating a search for evidence at Abdeslam’s safe house on Tuesday, encountered a barrage of gunfire which tipped them off that something — or someone — important was inside.

Abdeslam and another man are believed to have escaped while a fellow suspect distracted police; he was eventually shot dead but by then Abdeslam had fled, across the rooftops.

Three days later, on Friday, officers finally cornered him in a daring daytime raid on another apartment, bringing to an end an international manhunt that had lasted more than four months.

But authorities here still don’t know what — if any — terror plans are in the works, even with Abdeslam himself finally captured alive and charged, awaiting extradition to France.

Hotbed of jihadist ideology

Belgium remains wary and on edge, its alert level stuck at “grave” — the second highest stage — with security forces warning of a very real threat of attack.

In the past several weeks, CNN went to Molenbeek, a working-class district that has found notoriety as a hotbed of violent jihadist ideology, to find out what — if anything — had changed since the bloodshed in Paris four months ago.

It took months to coax people to meet with us. Many had received threats from self-proclaimed extremists directly to their mobile phones, warning them against speaking to the media.

Belgian officials have been unable to quell the flow of fighters traveling to ISIS territory, and — perhaps more worryingly, authorities are terrified the fighters will bring another Paris-style attack — back to Europe.
Brussels is just a short drive away from a host of major cities: Paris, of course, but also Amsterdam, Cologne, Strasbourg, Frankfurt, Berlin; hop into a car or onto a train and almost anyone can travel between any number of European cities within a few hours. Only recently, especially after the Paris attacks, did some European nations begin implementing immigration checks.

Genocide, Ecocide And The Empire Of Chaos

The Hypocrisy of the Western and American media

By Professor John McMurtry

The true nature of western civilization is hard to grasp from within, says Professor John McMurtry, because we perceive it through media whose primary purpose is not to convey the truth, but conceal it. What is actually playing out is a global war of empire and capital against the Earth and her people, backed up by the omnipresent threat of overwhelming force.

In 2014 philosopher John McMurtry was invited to co-operate with Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei in drafting the Supreme Leader’s ‘Open Letter to the Youth in Europe and North America‘. This was followed by a second such letter written in November 2015, following the terrorist attacks in Paris.

In the process of advising on the second letter McMurtry was asked a number of  penetrating questions about the ways of the US-led ‘neoliberal’ west, and the depths of shared crises that have long been off-limits to the mainstream media discourse. The first question: “What in general do the Western media hide and not let people know?”

“It is all so confusing until one recognizes that it is the same underlying pattern throughout. The corporate rich always get richer while peoples and their environments are ever more predated and looted in the name of their ‘security’ and ‘freedom”

The first duty of the mass media is to conceal

In general, the mass media across cultures are propaganda systems for those who own or control them. But the Western media lead the world in silencing one ultimate issue confronting all peoples on Earth – the despoliation of the world’s life support systems by transnational corporate globalization.

They talk only of ‘climate warming’, not destabilization of planetary life cycles at every level. They promote only market-growth solutions which are known not to work.

No-one talks of US-led ‘globalization’ itself as the underlying disorder. No science or story defines the common cause of the spasmic extinctions everywhere, the oceanic pollutions, the fish stock collapses across all waters, and the ever larger-scale looting of resources across borders.

It is a deeper causal mechanism than even US empire. Transnational money tides increasingly devour and poison all that exists with even Communist Party China destroying its own air to breathe and grounds of a human life.

Western media are the lead PR vehicles for this limitlessly life destructive invasion and growth – the nature of fascism in all forms. Financial fascism is never named in the media, and so its world floods of private money sequences, commodities and public waste grow and multiply beneath detection.

Throughout the corporate media present only isolated problems, competitive spectacles and ads for the system. Humanity`s common life ground and universal needs are screened out. ‘Reforms’ are only more corporate marketizations and bank-driven dispossessions.

The underlying law of corporate globalization is undeniable, but taboo to name. Whatever stands against the transnational corporate market as the cosmic engine of humanity’s well-being is anathematized and annihilated in one nation after another.

The methods range from bombing social infrastructures in Slavic and Arab societies to silencing and reversing undeniable facts exposing the lies of the system. No alternative to feeding resources into the life-blind growth juggernaut has arisen at a productive level. The media repel any real economic reform as unthinkable.

In this borderless chaos of corporate globalization which now strips even the social infrastructures of the European Union to pay big banks and dispossess workers, the mass media select out whatever joins the dots of the cumulative catastrophe unfolding on both social and ecological planes.

The Cost Of Terror In Brussels

Brussels 5Brussels, the heart of Belgium’s capital in the night

Article originally published in Global Risks Insight: Know Your World

Brussels, the capital of Belgium and the European Union, is experiencing some immediate economic effects resulting from recent terror threats in 2015. This city’s experience may prove to be a blueprint for other cities in 2016.

Following the deadly terrorist attacks that shocked France and the world on November 13th 2015, the global attention turned to Brussels as the majority of the Islamist militants that took part in the French massacre had links to the European capital. In addition, in late November Belgian authorities temporarily raised the terrorist threat level to its highest tier given the presence of a reportedly imminent terrorist threat.

This led to substantial disruptions in the capital in what came to be defined as “Brussels Lockdown”. The terrorist threat again came as an obstacle to the normal life of Brussels’ residents when authorities banned all public New Year’s Eve festivities on December 31st because of a reported plan to carry out an attack in the capital.

This prolonged state of insecurity has had a negative impact on the economic and social life of the capital. Since November 2015, Brussels, along with other European capitals, has been experiencing first-hand the cost of terror. The most overt statistics pertaining to touristic activities, social outings, and public gatherings show a general change in the perception of the city and an overall evolution in the local mood.

Throughout the duration of the “Brussels Lockdown”, thousands of travellers planning to reach the capital cancelled their flights. At the highest point of this trend, more than 2,000 flight cancellations were recorded on November 25th. While this push to avoid Brussels slowly stopped after the terrorist threat level was lowered, there were in average 6,000 flights per day to Brussels in early December 2015, approximately 1,500 less than in the same period of 2014.

A similar trend has been verified for the overall occupation rate of hotels in the capital. In early December, approximately 55% of Brussels’ hotel rooms were occupied against more than 73% during the same period of 2014.

Ubiquitous precautions

This situation had a direct impact on the economic and social life of the European capital throughout the Christmas and New Year’s festivities. The annual Christmas market organised and held in the historical centre of Brussels has experienced a drop in attendance of more than 30%. In addition, New Year’s Eve saw a major drop in demand for restaurant bookings and, as such, at least one out of every two restaurants in the capital closed their doors on the last night of 2015.

The aforementioned statistics are only an initial effect of the impact that the emergence of a new terror threat is having on western European economies. The Belgian example is noteworthy as local security and intelligence agencies have so far been successful in countering the threat posed by Islamist militants, and no major mass-casualty attack has occurred in the country.

However, the enhanced presence of military personnel in the streets of Brussels as well as the ongoing discourse over the current will of terrorist organisations to target the capital led to a mood change among the local population. The fear of potential attacks is playing as a long-term obstacle to private expenditures, tourism and the participation in major public social events.

As such, beyond the immediate security concerns raised by the risk of terrorist attacks, public officials face the need to adapt the ongoing counter-terrorist strategy in order not to hinder the socio-economic life of western European countries.

How Violence Takes Away Our Joy And Peace

Aiport 2Tighter airport security is necessary but are we free from terrorism?

Everyone wants to live a peaceful and happy life, instead many wake up in the morning with fear, because of constant violence erupting around us. Innocent victims, including children are caught up daily, in heinous crimes and violence, making living more difficult.

Many, including religious people, feel that violence is the right answer to provocation, in this way, they kill and praise God for that killing. It’s actually difficult to understand the reason some religious people praise God for killings.

I can understand why many have lost faith and even think God doesn’t exist, but the Bible teaches that violence originated with the archenemy of both God and man: Satan the Devil, whom Jesus Christ called “a murderer.” (John 8:44)

Apart from terrorism which continue to steal our happiness, most of our own misery comes from our homes. The world’s infatuation with media violence, games and unwholesome programs, influence children to indulge in crime. In America many children take gun to school.

The question people often ask is: Why is there so much suffering? Does God care about what humans are enduring? You can find answers to these questions when you read the Bible.

“Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.  And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.” Matthew 11:11-20.

In the midst of fear, hopelessness and uncertainty, we need to ask, who are we to depend on for our deliverance or safety? Are we to depend on politicians or church of leaders?

To me politicians have ruined our society more than the terrorists terrorizing us. As for church leaders, some have signed contract with the devil to please them, the reason many have gone astray.

In our present generation, one shouldn’t count on politicians and or some church leaders. The only way we can live in peace is to find ways to make positive changes in our behavior. We should cultivate the habit to forgive and forget, because forgiveness brings relief and comfort.

Above all we should always remember the words of the great teacher, Jesus Christ: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:39.
