WHAT JOURNALISM SKILLS CAN BE USED DIRECTLY IN CONTENT MARKETING?

Journalism 2Original article published in The Authentic Storytelling Project by Christoph Trappe

Some journalism skills can be transferred directly to the content marketing world. Let’s take them one by one.

Meeting deadlines

Journalists are constantly faced with deadlines in a near 24/7 news cycle. A deadline is a deadline. If it’s missed, the TV newscast might be short a story or the newspaper article didn’t get edited. Deadlines mean something and are met. When they aren’t, chances are the journalism career won’t last long. In content marketing, deadlines are also important and when they are met it can set teams apart from those who see deadlines as suggestions.

The Palace Of A Thousand Rainbows

Bose 1

This is the story of Barun, an unsure boy, born in Calcutta, India. At thirteen, Barun is 5’8” tall and a champion in tennis. Girls fling at him messages in lumped pieces of paper. Mother’s friends shower suspicious affection on him.

He meets Maria a few weeks before his fourteenth birthday. Maria’s pulse stops a few weeks later. A playroom palace, a dry pipal leaf in Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali and his promise to Maria set him on a journey.

A journey in search of enduring love. A search for his Palace of Rainbows. Maa, his mother, becomes his private metaphor for sensuality.

Sakshi walks into his life as his wife. Shalini – a vivacious, lonely nurse, Gargi – a luscious, smart journalist, Chandni – a gorgeous, tormented, decisive woman with suspicious links – all cross his path – intimately.

Shoma – Barun’s schoolmate Sid’s sister comes back into his life. Will it be Shoma and the Palace!  Forty years speed past him with Maa by his side.

Does he find his Palace at the end of this tortuous erotic journey!!!! This book explores some never answered human vulnerabilities to love and eroticism.

Erotic attractions and passionate fantasies become integral parts of the protagonist’s
search and his journey through life.

Socially unacceptable amorous attractions quietly slip into close relationships leading to
enduring consequences. Human frailties make the impossible a reality and the possible a pipe dream……

The Book Of Luke: My Fight For Truth, Justice, And Liberty City

Luther 1

The raw and powerful true story of how one man invented Southern Hip-Hop, saved the First Amendment, and became a role model for his disenfranchised Miami neighborhood—living proof that one person can make a difference in the world.

A rap artist, wealthy musical entrepreneur, high school coach, and involved, active citizen—Luther Campbell’s life is a reflection of modern America. His is a tale that touches on the most pressing issues of our time: sex, creativity versus the corporate bottom line, conservative values and artistic freedom, personal rights, the gangster mentality of music companies, the rise of entrepreneurship, and the power—and responsibilities—of individuals to care for their neighborhoods, their country, and the people around them.

Born in Miami’s notorious Liberty City neighborhood, Campbell saw firsthand poverty, despair, and crime. He also discovered the gift of transformation we all possess—knowledge that has made him a passionate fighter willing to take on the most powerful forces in the name of justice and what’s right. His rap group 2 Live Crew and successful independent label made him a superstar and a multi-millionaire—and the center of enormous controversy.

The “King of Dirty Rap” who helped pioneer the worldwide phenomenon known as the Miami Bass sound infuriated the conservative mainstream and became Public Enemy #1 when hip hop crossed the color line into white America. Campbell spent over a million dollars of his own money fighting cops and prosecutors all the way to the Supreme Court to protect his—and every other artist’s—right to free speech, setting landmark legal precedents that continue to shape the entertainment industry today.

Twenty years later, Campbell uses his fame and fortune to give back to the community, saving young men from the street corners and fighting for his people. Passionate, transformative, and inspiring, The Book of Luke is his story—a living testament to hope and change.

Luther Campbell is the entrepreneur behind 2 Live Crew, owner of Luke Records, and former concert promoter. Luther Campbell was at one time arguably the nation’s most controversial hip-hop figure. Campbell formed the Miami-based quartet in 1987 and they were the centerpiece of a national campaign against allegedly obscene lyrics. He was embroiled in a volatile trial pitting him against then-Florida attorney general Jack Thompson.

Campbell later became a solo artist, issuing his own discs as Luke Featuring 2 Live Crew. He released Banned in the U.S.A., a parody of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the U.S.A.,” and I’ve Got Shit on My Mind. Campbell also published an autobiography and revamped 2 Live Crew, adding some fresh members.

They issued Back at Your Ass for the Nine-4, which peaked at number nine on the R&B chart in 1994. Campbell also won a Supreme Court decision that ruled that his parody of Roy Orbison’s “Oh, Pretty Woman” didn’t violate the copyright held by Acuff Rose. Campbell launched the career of R&B vocalists H-Town, issuing their debut LP on Luke Records. ~ Ron Wynn, Rovi

Raising The Dead

Dead 3

On October 20, 2006, a middle-aged auto mechanic, Jeff Markin, walked into the emergency room at the Palm Beach Gardens Hospital and collapsed from a massive heart attack. Forty minutes later he was declared dead. After filling out his final report, the supervising cardiologist, Dr. Chauncey Crandall, started out of the room. “Before I crossed its threshold, however, I sensed God was telling me to turn around and pray for the patient,” Crandall explained.

With that prayer and Dr. Crandall’s instruction to give the man what seemed one more useless shock from the defibrillator, Jeff Markin came back to life–and remains alive and well today. But how did a Yale-educated cardiologist whose Palm Beach practice includes some of the most powerful people in American society, including several billionaires, come to believe in supernatural healing?
The answers to these questions compose a story and a spiritual journey that transformed Chauncey Crandall.

Tammy’s Story: A Young Slave Girl’s Escape To Freedom

TAMMY 1

Nine-year old Rachel Thurlow was assigned to write a story as part of her homeschool study of the institution of slavery that preceded the American Civil War. As Rachel’s writing grew longer, she developed this short story narrative of a young slave girl, Tammy, who escaped from her master and rescued her mother to become fugitive slaves on the run for freedom.

Tammy met another escaped slave, Gabe, and together they had several adventures, while also learning about the Fugitive Slave Law, which forbade people to help escaped slaves, and the Underground Railroad, in which abolitionists specifically broke the law to assist escaped slaves in their quest for freedom.

The end result is this suspense-filled and at times charming tale of escaped slaves on the run, brought to you from the mind of a nine-year old American girl.

AFTERLIFE

TIM

We are all curious about afterlife, we all wonder what would happen to us after death, where we would go and what would heaven or hell be like. It is the story of one such mind that would take readers into not only weird, eerie and scary places but also a sad, compelling and a beautiful journey that is mostly otherworldly.

Read the book to find out about those mysterious places that would definitely make you wonder whether they were for real. I write for my charity ISSLCARE, the fund I get from my books is use to run it which in turn help finance impoverished families in Nepal so they can send their children to school.

I was born in Dhampus, Kaski, Gandaki, Nepal, in 1963. I studied at the local school, and just like my fathers and uncles, I joined the British army at the age of 17, and came to Hong Kong in 1980 as a Gurkha soldier. After serving in the army for 13 years, I voluntarily retired in 1993 and went back to Nepal for a brief time before I got a job offer from a local company.

I returned to Hong Kong and never left. My job required me to visit China on a regular basis. China was just opening up, and I had the rare opportunity to see it firsthand from the very beginning. My wife and children joined me in Hong Kong two years after my return. We were lucky enough to be able to setup our small home here, and we have been here almost twenty years.

While I was busy raising my family and earning a livelihood, I had no time to think about other things in life. Since I started working at 17, I had no chance of going to the university, and I have learned everything from living my life. I worked really hard, earned enough to provide a comfortable life for my family and was lucky enough to be able to make choices in life.

I had always wanted to do something different after I turned fifty, something more important and meaningful that came directly from my heart, and would eventually make me happy. I never wanted to work for money after I reached a certain age in life. I wanted to spend the last half of my life following my heart, and that is precisely what I am doing now.

Writing has always been in me; the joy and satisfaction I get from writing are not possible from anything else. I genuinely feel at home only when I am writing; it is an excellent gift the Almighty bestowed upon me and I cannot waste it. I needed to use it for good and I have no intention whatsoever to write for fame or fortune.

I write for good, for society and for the people. Writers should write for global readers, not limiting or restricting themselves within certain boundaries or societies. They should write about global problems. I, for one, am going to try my best to do just that, God willing, and I sincerely hope I can make progress toward change.

As planned, I have already established a charity foundation on my family’s behalf, ISSLCARE FOUNDATION LTD. The money I get from selling my books will be used to run my charity, and henceforth, I will spend the rest of my life helping the weak, the poor and the needy. This promise was not done in a fit of emotions, nor is it some sort of gimmick to sell more books, but a commitment of a lifetime, which I will fulfill at any cost.

Please keep visiting us on a regular basis and see the progress being made. You won’t be disappointed. I couldn’t do it without the help, love and support of my dearest wife, my two children and my other closest families and friends. You are always on my mind; you keep me going. Please always remember that I am nothing without you guys; without you, nothing is possible. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I genuinely love and care for you all and will cherish you for the rest of my life. God bless you all!

All of my books are edited by VICTORIA GIRAUD, and I wish her a heartfelt thank you, as always.

Yours truly,
