Trying To Live In The Mind Of A Slave

SLAVERY 1

Who knows how it feels to be a slave? It’s only a slave who can vividly tell someone his or her ordeal. Years after the abolition of slavery, if Africans and African-Americans, are still fruitlessly  struggling to regain their lost identity, then what did their ancestors went through as slaves outside Africa, in the period of slavery?

If I look at the picture above, I see probably a mother and her two sons. The inability of the woman to help her sons has put pressure on her, taking her into a state of hopelessness, insecurity, and bewilderment.

I don’t think they requested to take this image because slave owners don’t listen to the cry of slaves, yet the older boy puts a little smile on his face, whole the younger one shows a face of defiance, as his family becomes a subject of humiliation and ridicule.

Recorded facts about slavery are that over the period of the Atlantic Slave Trade, from approximately 1526 to 1867, about 12.5 million slaves shipped from Africa, only 10.7 million had arrived in the America and the Caribbean. The Atlantic Slave Trade, therefore, was likely to be the most costly in human life of all of the long-distance global migrations.

On February 1, 1865, Abraham Lincoln who was then president of the United States of America, signed a resolution and outlawed slavery, since then National Freedom Day is annually observed on February 1, but years after the abolition, the scars and remnants of slavery are still haunting African-Americans or the Black man today.

They say we should forgive and forget, but certain things can’t be forgotten, because it’s like a picture hanging on the wall. We see it every day.

My Name Is Savage, But I am Not Savage

Big Joe 5“Whatever happens to me benefits me.” – Joel Savage

Why many do ask me if ‘Savage’ is my real name? Once a British woman told me she hates her name ‘Mrs Ball’ and worst of all, my father’s name is ‘Mr. Underworld,’  she said. Yes, many of us have strange names. Some do change and others keep them.

I was born Joel Savage, at Cape Coast, in the central region of Ghana, on January 19, 1957, to Justin Savage, a professional journalist and Nancy-Elizabeth Hudson, an accomplished seamstress and a sewing teacher.

Last year, during my summer holidays in Barcelona, Spain, I gave one of my books to a student I met at the hotel I lodged. At the computer hall, I was flabbergasted when I saw his friends laughing at my name. I pretended I wasn’t listening to their conversation.

Then on January 1, 2016, history repeats itself. At the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana, when ready to board my flight, an officer at the last checkpoint controlled my passport and the only question he threw at me is: How do you pronounce this word? Pointing directly to the name, “Savage,” I answered.

“Well, I’m glad that you mentioned it yourself, because I thought that may provoke you if I had said the same thing.” He said and gave back my passport to me.

If names have impact on people, then I am exceptional. I am happily married since 1993 and still live with the same woman. If I’m savage, uncivilized, cruel or a beast, my wife wouldn’t have been with me today. My three sons can stand behind me and tell everyone how caring and compassionate their father is.

What I know about myself is, I have intrepid sort of character. I don’t give up and no one can break me down physically, psychologically, emotionally or spiritually. In my life, I take any misfortune as beneficial and every problem as a challenge, because you can’t survive in this world if you submit to problems.

This is the reason many people are depressed, alcoholics or drug addicts. Because they don’t have the will power to fight and overcome those destructive tendencies. Savage is just a name but it has no influence on me. I believe in God and the Bible is my shield and Armour.

Can We Rise Above Negative Attitudes And Hurtful Feelings?

Have faith and depend on Jesus

People pray during a mass held outside the public school where 12 children were killed by a gunman last week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In the community, your neighbour can be your enemy, your brother can be your enemy and your sister can be your enemy. When two people have a difference, both often become angry. The reason we see sons rise against fathers, daughters against mothers, brother against brother and sister against sister.

Some of the painful and hurtful things in life, is when you don’t know where you went wrong, or the mistake you did, but someone hates you. You try to reason with the person, making efforts to settle, but since he has bad intentions, he isn’t prepared to make peace with you. Perhaps you have experienced a similar situation.

There are people who take other people’s quiet nature, submissiveness, and humbleness, as stupid or foolishness. Before you start hating someone, probably your close friend or relative, sit down with him, face to face, to let him or her know what the problem is. You can’t just begin calling the person a liar, fool and going far to tell your brother or sister of stealing your money to wed his wife or her husband, by writing letters.

Some people like to live a simple life, even though they can afford everything, including a car, yet he or she prefers to use a bicycle to work. That doesn’t mean that the person is stupid or has failed in life. If you live with pride and arrogance and wants to advertise your wealth, go on, because not everyone is interested in what you do.

People who live with pride feel very intelligent in their own eyes. When they are talking to you, they try to make you understand or believe they are the most intelligent people on earth. But the more you remain silent, to listen or read whatever they write, the more you see how stupid and foolish they are. Even the ten foolish virgins are all intelligent.

Most people often never think of how pride can be destructive. There was once a man who lives in Amsterdam. He was very famous, because of the way he lives and boastful nature. Anytime he travels to Africa, he demolishes part of the house he was building, suggesting to the builders to build a modern house, even though the plan of the house they were following was a modern plan. He was never satisfied with any modern house since he changes his mind frequently anytime he sees a beautiful house.

Unfortunately, he was involved in a serious crime. After serving his prison sentence, he was deported to Africa. He now lives in an uncompleted building for over a decade. As human beings, we need to be careful of the words that come from our mouth. There are words once spoken, they will come back to hurt or haunt you. You can’t reject something, then later want it back. You can’t take your brother to court when he asked you to sit down with him to solve the problem amicably.

Your uncontrollable anger and pride, are driving you to execute devilish plans against your brother, but nothing is working. That brother you are fighting against is using his precious time, seeking the intervention of Jesus, to give him the patience to endure the pain and temptations he is going through. And it works. Once you read your Bible each day or go to church to worship each Sunday, you learn certain practical principles, which will help you to overcome the hardest obstacles ahead of you.

I posted this article to encourage everyone facing any difficulties in life, to trust and believe in God. Try Jah’s love when everything fails. Seek the face of Jah in the world’s most widely read book: The Bible. It encourages us to cultivate qualities, such as discernment, love, kindness, insight, and patience. Above all the Bible can help you to promote peace and heal emotional wounds.

Don’t Underestimate Prophecies In The Holy Bible: They Are Not Mere Stories

Anti-Christ forces against Christians

The persecution of Christians has increased in many countries including China

We are in an era many feel embarrassed or overpowered by shyness to speak about the Holy Bible. Once people begin to talk about the scriptures, they are seen by non-believers as those losing their mind. To be a Christian is not by force and it is not by force either for a Christian to convert to Islam.

You can be an atheist, no one cares, but woe unto the atheist who tries to take God’s children and believers to the path of destruction. And woe unto Muslims that kill Christians and say they are doing it for Allah because true God has no pleasure in wickedness.

The reason when Jesus sent out his twelve disciples he told “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.” Many ignore the prophecies in the Bible, because they are spiritually blind and deaf, to hear and see the fulfillment of the scriptures taking place around the world today.

Jesus said, “They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” Luke 5: 53.

“Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.” Matthew 10:21-23.

Those who have eyes can clearly see and those who have ears can clearly hear that all the prophecies in the Bible are gradually taking place. Christians are now being slaughtered like cows and those respondents say they are doing it for Allah, because ‘Allahu Akbar’-God is great. Give me a break, if the God you are worshiping is great, let that great God take his own actions. No one fights or kills for a great God, but only a weak God.

Domestic violence erupting daily as daughters fight against mothers and sons against fathers. There is no peace because everyone thinks he is right to do whatever is bad. The greed for money has increased violence and crime at every corner of the globe.

My father’s house of worship has become the den of thieves or drinking pubs, as churches are being converted to drinking place. Husband kills wife and wife kill husband for life insurance money. Father kills the baby and mother kill a baby. What a world of confusion enveloped by spiritual darkness?

Jesus spoke about love 13 times some of these occurrences are parallel scriptures such as someone asking Him what the greatest commandment of all. He preached some 190 times on hell, repentance, and judgment. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude.

It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. Featured Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

The Reason I Forget My Birthday Every Year

birthday 3

Many people worldwide, happy or satisfied about whatever they have achieved in life, wished to be thankful by celebrating birthdays. Many spend thousands of dollars, including celebrities, to celebrate birthdays in grand style, giving expensive gifts, including cars to their loved ones.

I may be lost in this world, even though I’m part of this generation, because every year, I forget my birthday. Either my son or wife comes to ask me “Do you know that today is your birthday?” Before checking the calendar to remember that I was born 19th of January. This may sound stupid, but it’s true, because I don’t value birthday.

As a father, the rapid decaying of the society, terrorism, immorality, the decline of Christian activities, the influence of negative activities and the encouraging of all bad things by head of churches and world leaders are my concern, the reason every year, I forget my birthday. I may die today and be gone tomorrow, but what about the life of our children?

Many African children born or raised in Europe are bold to tell parents that there is no God, when in Africa; your child can’t tell you such nonsense. Who are they following and what is influencing them? When I make up in the morning, after asking for God’s protection, I ask God to protect my three sons and lead them to marry women when they grow, because I don’t want to die of shock.

As a writer, my passion lies in writing and reading. Sometimes I forget that the whole day I haven’t eaten. Like every writer my ambition is to create something different in the world of literature, thus; what’s the significance of birthday celebration when I can’t even remember the day I was born?

I don’t think I will ever celebrate my birthday, because it a normal day for me, above all I think children deserve birthday not adults. During birthday parties across the world, plenty of food are thrown into the trash, yet the poor are starving, while thousands go to bed without food.

Not at all, birthday celebration is not part of, but I will be very glad, when my social media friends remind me when it’s my birthday. That’s genuine love, because I love them too.
