How Violence Takes Away Our Joy And Peace

Aiport 2Tighter airport security is necessary but are we free from terrorism?

Everyone wants to live a peaceful and happy life, instead many wake up in the morning with fear, because of constant violence erupting around us. Innocent victims, including children are caught up daily, in heinous crimes and violence, making living more difficult.

Many, including religious people, feel that violence is the right answer to provocation, in this way, they kill and praise God for that killing. It’s actually difficult to understand the reason some religious people praise God for killings.

I can understand why many have lost faith and even think God doesn’t exist, but the Bible teaches that violence originated with the archenemy of both God and man: Satan the Devil, whom Jesus Christ called “a murderer.” (John 8:44)

Apart from terrorism which continue to steal our happiness, most of our own misery comes from our homes. The world’s infatuation with media violence, games and unwholesome programs, influence children to indulge in crime. In America many children take gun to school.

The question people often ask is: Why is there so much suffering? Does God care about what humans are enduring? You can find answers to these questions when you read the Bible.

“Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.  And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.” Matthew 11:11-20.

In the midst of fear, hopelessness and uncertainty, we need to ask, who are we to depend on for our deliverance or safety? Are we to depend on politicians or church of leaders?

To me politicians have ruined our society more than the terrorists terrorizing us. As for church leaders, some have signed contract with the devil to please them, the reason many have gone astray.

In our present generation, one shouldn’t count on politicians and or some church leaders. The only way we can live in peace is to find ways to make positive changes in our behavior. We should cultivate the habit to forgive and forget, because forgiveness brings relief and comfort.

Above all we should always remember the words of the great teacher, Jesus Christ: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:39.

10 Expectations of School Canteens

Original article published by:                  Momma 2

School 4Running a school canteen can be a tough and thankless job so firstly we would like to say “Thank You” to all of the volunteers and workers that give their time to our schools.

However, just as we expect a standard of education from our schools we should also be expecting a standard of nutrition from the school canteens. (When we say “we” we mean parents, teachers, society and the government)

Why should we all care?

Well parents should care because we are parents and we want our children to be happy and healthy. Teachers should care because when our children go into the school yard and eat unhealthy food they come back to the classroom and the teachers are on the receiving end of the mood swings. Society should care because “un”health care is costing us a fortune, plus our tax dollars are going into education and we should be expecting a good return on investment.

The Government should care … the Government should care like crazy … because health care and unemployment cost the Government big dollars. (Let’s face it, if the Government are spending big dollars on the sick and unemployed they will have less dollars to spend on the country and themselves)

So here are the top 10 expectations of school canteens we should all have:

  1. No added sugar – with so many natural, healthy alternatives this is so unnecessary. Don’t know how to cook with honey or brown rice syrup instead of sugar? Ask us!
  2. Stop using white wheat flour – Approximately 75% of Momma Green’s clients test positive for wheat intolerance. Imagine 75% of school children filling up on white wheat sausage rolls, pies, pasties, sandwiches? It has chaos written all over it! Don’t know how to cook without white wheat flour, check out our recipes.
  3. No high fructose syrup – high fructose syrup is just as bad as sugar and has exactly the same behavioral consequences.
  4. No maize – Just as we are seeing 75% of the community with wheat intolerance problems we are also seeing approximately 65% of the community experiencing an intolerance to maize.
  5. No Soft Drink – None at all, it doesn’t matter what type of drink it is they are all dangerous to the health of our children. No sports drinks, no energy drinks, no canned drinks! Let’s get some juice and smoothie bars happening. Don’t forget water, good quality, filtered water should e freely available in every classroom, after all, no water = no learning.
  6. No Coffee – No doubt some teens love the coffee high but the coffee low is frying their brains in the afternoon. If teachers want coffee put a coffee machine in the teacher’s lounge but coffee is not helping teachers or students focus in the afternoons.
  7. Don’t be a corner store – At a corner store or petrol station we expect to find highly processed, pre-packaged items like ice-blocks, chips and lollies. That is the reason many parents choose to avoid these stores but when you put them into our schools it makes it impossible for our children to avoid them, help us out here and take them out of our schools.
  8. No colors, flavors, preservatives or e-numbers – If our kids can’t read it, pronounce it or understand it we don’t want it in their mouths. Let’s be honest most adults can’t pronounce these ridiculously long names but we can tell you what the majority of them mean … behavioral and learning difficulties that’s what. Doesn’t this seem counter-productive?
  9. A plant based menu – Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, lots of home-made ice-blocks, juices, smoothies, Mexican and Italian food which kids love and are so easy to add vegetables to. Fruit salad, crudites and dips, sweet potato chips … the list is endless … ask the kids what healthy foods they love and cook that, kids are creative you will be surprised by some of their ideas.
  10. Lastly and most importantly, Health over profit – With a lack of volunteers many schools are taking the easy way out and outsourcing their canteens, this is akin to privatization of the health care industry and deregulation of banking, put simply when money is the focus and people are a secondary concern money is going to win. So how do we fix this little dilemma?

How about Government incentives for canteens that adopt a better way of doing things? Wouldn’t this help everyone? It would help our canteens get creative, our children would be healthier and better able to learn, our teachers would be able to teach more effectively and as parents we would be picking up healthier, happier children that have been educated in the classroom and nourished during meal time. Isn’t that what we should all be expecting from our schools?

What’s Dominating Us In This Generation

Dangerous 2

Original article posted by daniabbott11: (November 1, 2015)

In our time today, a lot of useful things had evolved. Communication, hobbies, studying, and a lot more can all be done easily. Everything is modern in this generation. People are becoming great in their field of work and interests. Great musicians are everywhere, great writers, great poets, great thinkers, great scientists, great athletes, great entertainers, great technologists and a lot more great people. But how are we doing with being a plain person? Are we also doing a great job?

We are living today in a world where beauty and fame is the main measurement of being a person. Notice how all we see today in the television and in the magazines are just pretty faces. Of course, one component of being a celebrity is having a pretty face, but do we take notice of those people who are not that pretty but offer a lot of talent, do we give them an opportunity to make themselves shine? What about those people who are great thinkers but are too shy to make themselves notice?

Do we take notice of them and do we help them express themselves? And notice how cheaters, thieves and liars are dominating us. In school, cheaters are given high marks while those who studied and didn’t cheat sink at the bottom of the class. Look at the cheaters graduating and becoming thieves, liars and forever cheaters. Take notice of the people working hard but still whatever they do seems like it’s never enough. Why? It’s because we take them for granted.

When someone famous gives a shallow and stupid statement it goes trending worldwide and when someone talks about something sensible and intelligent we judge them for being too boring or worse we won’t even care. This only proves that we are letting fame, beauty and lies dominate us. Great ideas are dominated by shallow thinking. Great work is dominated by lies and fame. “Who cares who did this and that? Who cares who said this and that?

They’re not famous anyway.” Why don’t we make them famous instead of those we keep on worshipping when they don’t even contribute to the betterment of this world? I’m not saying that it’s wrong to entertain ourselves once in a while, it’s not wrong to love some artists, it’s not wrong to love what we’re seeing but what is wrong is letting those things we love dominate our society. It is wrong to let those we see, watch, hear and idolize takeover of what we’re supposed to be thinking and doing.

That’s the main reason why we’re getting worse. People are hating each other because they don’t like the same artists, smart people are being stupid because stupid people are becoming more stupid, people are willing to kill just for power and fame, it won’t be long when we’re all acting and living like cavemen. Sensible people are losing hope in living, can we blame them? Can we judge them for being weak?

No, we can’t because the forces of those people who are blinding themselves with greed and nonsense are becoming too strong. Smart people opt to stay quiet instead of being judge. No, they are not weak, some of them are not shy, they just don’t want to stoop down the level of mediocrity and shallowness in thinking of those people surrounding them.

Bullying: How Can We Protect Our Children From This Aggressive Behaviour?

Bullying 1Every child deserves to be happy at home and at school, but many times that happiness they are looking for eludes them. At school and on play grounds, it’s very common for a child to experience bullying from other boys, because he or she looks different.

Physical bullying, taunts and calling one funny names happen every day at school and after school, without the knowledge of teachers or parents. The reason is many children wouldn’t like to speak out to the authorities or parents, because they are scared to talk about it. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, about 160,000 students in the United States, daily refuse to go to school because of bullying.

A married woman with six children, once told me that in her teens at school, she nearly committed suicide. According to her, she was bullied everyday because of her ginger-coloured hair and many called her ugly girl, because she had freckles on her face. Her story was emotional and sad, as she claimed her own brother was part of her misery. He called her ugly too. Despite her ordeal, she summoned up courage to study psychology at the university. That’s one of the best ways to ignore bullying, but how many children have the strength to stand this psychological torture?

On his way to school, a mother kissed her son, without knowing that’s her last kiss to the son, who is being bullied every day at school without her knowledge, because her child never told her. When the child reached a bridge over a busy street, he jumped to his death. Every newspaper in Belgium published this sad story for the government to do something about it. Today the fight against bully is very active in the country.

Children who intimidate or bully other children enjoy doing that. They never stop until the victim has courage to tell his or her parents or put up resistance. It is very important for parents to ask children often, if they are experiencing problems at school. Talking to your child about school is one of the quickest ways to determine if your child is hiding anything from you, for the parents to take necessary actions.

The Writer Died

The Writer Died Cover Design

The amazing front cover design of ‘The Writer Died’

Child Neglect relates to failure to provide a child’s basic needs. In Europe and America, there are organizations that assist in solving such problems or taking care of neglected children. In many parts of Africa, the story is entirely different. This is an emotional, touching and inspirational story of a young boy who finds himself in a similar situation.

Kumbe finds himself in a hostile environment, as a victim of divorce and neglect. An environment he witnesses the suffering and hustling his mother goes through to feed him. He was unhappy because his father was neglecting his family, spending his fortune on other women. He sees his adolescence as a struggle to win the support of his father.

At school, he was among the best students. This gives him inspiration to fight to educate himself. In a confused society, Kumbe spends a better part of his life visiting the library, reading and studying. Despite daily horrendous life he passes through, Kumbe excels to be an outstanding journalist and writer, attached to the president of his native country, Ghana, with enormous enthusiasm and optimism. However, in his lifetime as a famous journalist, his fame gives him nothing but hatred, jealousy and blackmail from an empire of deceitful enemies.

He stands strong and firm, destined to fight the cruel charismatic power of those forces haunting him. But they are stronger than him. Despite his wife’s moral and material support, Kumbe surrenders and dies mysteriously. Who and what killed him? “The Writer Died” is a truly remarkable book of hard life experience of child neglect, an indispensable and inspiring book for anyone that may find himself in a similar situation.

The writer tries to define, measure, classify, and understand what child neglect is like in Africa.

I Stand Accused: But I’m Innocent

Worry 1

I am not a professional psychologist, trained to conduct research, perform and evaluate the emotional and psychological challenges of individuals. I am writing this article due to my personal experience and what I’ve seen in families, individuals, groups, and society as a whole.

When we were young, we did many things which we never thought were bad. We were in the ages of no regret, so we feel good and great over our bad attitudes and the wrong things we were doing, thinking that make us great to stand out of the crowd. We only realized the many sins we committed during our early twenties or adulthood.

We can’t turn back the clock after knowing the bad things we did, than regret or repent to lead a better and responsible life in adulthood. Unfortunately, many live the same life from youth till the end of their lives. At school, we feel very proud to say that “I’ve a girlfriend,” even though many of us are scared to talk to girls.

One day while school on vacation, we organized a small party in one of my friend’s house. We invited the girls we like best claiming to be our girlfriends, yet we couldn’t even look into their eyes in a second. My best friend Aldo, invited his platonic girlfriend and I invited mine.

I told Aldo to come an hour after me, in order to enjoy my privacy with Emmy. In fact, that was the first time I tasted the lips of a beautiful girl I loved most during my school days. I felt I was in paradise, after the kiss I realized I’m still on earth. At nineteen, I consider myself too young to enter into bed with Emmy as students. I was therefore satisfied with the kiss she gave me, so I left with her to join the public transport home.

When I came back, I saw Aldo with Aggie, a very dark beautiful complexion girl everyone is proud of. I told Aldo, “I finished with Emmy and she has gone home.” I think Aldo misunderstood what I said. His mind went on different thing. Why I’m saying this? What ensued after was clear enough to know that Aldo misunderstood me.

People in our neighbourhood heard unusual event taking place in the room where Aldo and Aggie were. The struggle became so intense that I quickly went to the place to find out what is going on between them. As soon as I opened the door, Aggie with fury bolted out and all attempts to find out what went wrong were futile. Aggie left with anger without looking back.

I questioned Aldo over Aggie’s temperance, and he confessed that he had wanted to have sex with her but everything went wrong. I asked him, what’s the reason of forcing a girl who doesn’t want to have sex with you?  “You told me you’ve finished with Emmy, the reason; I tried to have sex with her.” I was shocked over the answer Aldo gave me.

“But Aldo, saying that I’ve finished with Emmy doesn’t mean I had sex with her.” I said with emotions, desperately trying to defend myself. Instead of Aldo acknowledging his own mistakes, to apologize to Aggie, he put the blame on me, ruining our friendship without further communication between us, until the time both completed our secondary education.

This scenario took place years ago, when we were teenagers, but it still hurts me. Why should Aldo take my answer to enhance his own selfish desire, when that wasn’t what I mean? After school, I tried to renew our friendship but it seems, Aldo still habours the feeling that I crashed his world. He decides not to have anything with me.

There is no need to cry over spilt milk. I gave up. Years after school, without any knowledge about the welfare of Aldo , I met a classmate who told me of the death of my friend. He had a fractured leg during a football match. The extent of his injury was so severe that he succumbed.

I miss him very much, but I have a clear conscience that my statement didn’t mean that I slept with Emmy, so he shouldn’t have tried to sleep with Aggie, above all, he failed to ask me the meaning of what I said, before embarking on a wrong journey. Whatever the situation, I pray for him to have a peaceful rest, knowing that we shall meet again somewhere in heaven or the universe one day, if truly there life after death.

AFTERLIFE

TIM

We are all curious about afterlife, we all wonder what would happen to us after death, where we would go and what would heaven or hell be like. It is the story of one such mind that would take readers into not only weird, eerie and scary places but also a sad, compelling and a beautiful journey that is mostly otherworldly.

Read the book to find out about those mysterious places that would definitely make you wonder whether they were for real. I write for my charity ISSLCARE, the fund I get from my books is use to run it which in turn help finance impoverished families in Nepal so they can send their children to school.

The Author

TIM 2

I was born in Dhampus, Kaski, Gandaki, Nepal, in 1963. I studied at the local school, and just like my fathers and uncles, I joined the British army at the age of 17, and came to Hong Kong in 1980 as a Gurkha soldier. After serving in the army for 13 years, I voluntarily retired in 1993 and went back to Nepal for a brief time before I got a job offer from a local company.

I returned to Hong Kong and never left. My job required me to visit China on a regular basis. China was just opening up, and I had the rare opportunity to see it firsthand from the very beginning. My wife and children joined me in Hong Kong two years after my return. We were lucky enough to be able to setup our small home here, and we have been here almost twenty years.

While I was busy raising my family and earning a livelihood, I had no time to think about other things in life. Since I started working at 17, I had no chance of going to the university, and I have learned everything from living my life. I worked really hard, earned enough to provide a comfortable life for my family and was lucky enough to be able to make choices in life.

I had always wanted to do something different after I turned fifty, something more important and meaningful that came directly from my heart, and would eventually make me happy. I never wanted to work for money after I reached a certain age in life. I wanted to spend the last half of my life following my heart, and that is precisely what I am doing now.

Writing has always been in me; the joy and satisfaction I get from writing are not possible from anything else. I genuinely feel at home only when I am writing; it is an excellent gift the Almighty bestowed upon me and I cannot waste it. I needed to use it for good and I have no intention whatsoever to write for fame or fortune.

I write for good, for society and for the people. Writers should write for global readers, not limiting or restricting themselves within certain boundaries or societies. They should write about global problems. I, for one, am going to try my best to do just that, God willing, and I sincerely hope I can make progress toward change.

As planned, I have already established a charity foundation on my family’s behalf, ISSLCARE FOUNDATION LTD. The money I get from selling my books will be used to run my charity, and henceforth, I will spend the rest of my life helping the weak, the poor and the needy. This promise was not done in a fit of emotions, nor is it some sort of gimmick to sell more books, but a commitment of a lifetime, which I will fulfill at any cost.

Please keep visiting us on a regular basis and see the progress being made. You won’t be disappointed. I couldn’t do it without the help, love and support of my dearest wife, my two children and my other closest families and friends. You are always on my mind; you keep me going. Please always remember that I am nothing without you guys; without you, nothing is possible. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I genuinely love and care for you all and will cherish you for the rest of my life. God bless you all!

All of my books are edited by VICTORIA GIRAUD, and I wish her a heartfelt thank you, as always.

Yours truly,
