Burning Uncle Tom’s Cabin

Cabin 3

Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin was one of the most influential novels of its time. However, reading the classic today brings to light stereotypes and plot issues. But rather than write off this classic, author Carl Waters re-imagines and remixes the story into a four-book series that builds from the world and characters Stowe created and expands on the good she intended.

In Burning Uncle Tom’s Cabin, young slave George Harris is a self-taught inventor whose owner despises him. His wife Eliza, however, belongs to another slave owner, along with their three-year-old son Harry.

While George dreams of the day when he can escape to Canada and work to earn enough money so he can buy his family’s freedom, Eliza tries to see the best in her situation. But when her owner falls into financial troubles and plans to offer up Harry as payment against his debt, Eliza runs north with her son.

Suddenly, George must forget his careful planning and immediately go after his family if he has any hope of finding them before the slave hunters capture them. Can the runaway slave, George, find his family and save them? Can he navigate the Underground Railroad and get to Canada? Can he finally gain his freedom?

An innovative retelling that offers fresh insight into America’s past, Burning Uncle Tom’s Cabin is sure to spark as much conversation as the original classic itself. Stowe created the first slavery fiction world and Waters plans to make that world bigger. Most slavery books aim to teach the reader about the dark days of American slavery. Instead, the Burning Uncle Tom’s Cabin series will show the reader what could have happened.

What Will You Do When A Married Woman Is Interested In You?

buttocks 3

“How would you judge it, when a married woman wants to sleep with you,  a blessing, evil or temptation?”

About fourteen years ago, I made an advert in a local newspaper in Antwerp, Belgium, looking for a job as a cleaner because cleaning is one of the easiest jobs to get if one wants to be financially independent as quickly as possible. (Later the Belgian government noticed it and blocked the illegal work by introducing cleaning payment cheques through work agencies) I had a good response and started working for four married women.

When a man is around a woman, one needs to be conscious, because some women are very attractive and tempting. The beautiful dress they wear and the expensive perfumes they use, add glamour to their beauty, which could sweep a man off his feet if you are not the type hard to fight temptation. There is no way a fowl can pass maize without swallowing it. I don’t blame Bill Clinton, Jeffery Archer, Mike Tyson, Tiger Woods and many others for their inability to resist the taste of the juicy fruit. All came crashing down because of a woman.

One of the women I was working for, husband works outside Antwerp. Being a housewife, she thought she could cheat on her husband with me. It may be that I am completely wrong, she hadn’t those intentions. Probably she was just trying to see if I would yield to her demands to determine if I am a dangerous man in her house, in order to kick me out immediately. In the first week, I started cleaning her house, there isn’t a single day passing by without her touching my buttocks. She comes very close behind me touches my butt and leaves.

Saskia (not her real name) was a very beautiful and attractive lady. It’s hard to resist the temptation of giving her what she wants. I stood firm not to enter into her tempting ‘Golden box,’ yet I was scared to death to tell her to stop touching my buttocks. Besides, her husband was very friendly to me, there is no way I’m going to do this. It’s completely wrong to sleep with another man’s wife. I would not be happy if someone does that to me. After the continuation of ‘buttocks touching’ for two weeks without response, she stopped.

I gave a big sigh of relief, unknowing she has other plans. On the first floor of the building was a library. Usually, I take all the books and dust the shelves in the cleaning process. She knows that I clean the bookshelves every week, so she printed a colored photograph of a man inserting his manhood into a lady’s ‘golden box’ and hid it at a place where I can easily reach when cleaning the books. More than dozen times, I took the picture and watched, asking myself, Lord what a temptation? I refused to sleep with her.

The third temptation happened on a very sad day, September 11, 2001, when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center. While I glued myself to the corner of the sitting hall listening to the shocking news, she invited me to join her on the sofa and I declined. “You are a married woman who wore a ring,” I told her. From that day I gained my freedom. We became good friends and she liked me more like a brother.

She gave me a key to her house to clean weekly without disturbing her if she is in bed. But one day something went terribly wrong. Saskia forgets that she has given me a key to her house. She wakes one morning and finds a dark figure in her kitchen. I have no words to explain what followed. She screamed calling God to come to her rescue. This is a woman who doesn’t even believe in God. I was sad and upset. I gave back her key that very day.

I worked for her for five years and quit because I got a full-time work and it became difficult to handle both. She was highly disappointed when I decided to leave. I want her to be happy, so I went to her place with a friend to work for her. She rejected him outright. I took another friend and she also opposed him. I gave up but she didn’t take it kindly. She sent me a disappointing mail of neglecting her, calling me a bad person, after all, that she has done for me. I apologized and everything became normal.
