Air On Planes Confirmed As ‘Toxic’ And ‘Dangerous’ To Human Health

PlanePosted on February 24, 2016 by Sean Adl-Tabatabai in News

A new study has revealed that airline passengers and cabin crew could be breathing in toxic and potentially deadly fumes while travelling on airplanes.

German scientists say they have found dangerous chemicals and volatile compounds from burning aircraft fuel in the blood samples taken from people aboard planes.

The chemicals, known as organophosphates, form the basis of many insecticides, herbicides, and nerve agents.

Dailymail.co.uk reports:

Most aircraft recycle around half of the air inside the cabin while other air is drawn in through the engines – often without passing through filters.

Known as ‘fume events’, sickness in passengers and aircrew have been recorded since the 1950s.

One such event was implicated in the death of a British Airways co-pilot Richard Westgate, who died in 2012 after suffering a condition called aerotoxic syndrome.

The 43-year-old had complained of suffering from persistent headaches, nausea and chronic fatigue and he claimed this was caused by fumes in the cockpit.

A study conducted following his death found that air in cockpits was being contaminated by contained organophosphates and other chemicals.

Now a new study by scientists at the University of Göttingen, which has still to be published, suggests the problem may be widespread.

The researchers tested 140 patients who reported symptoms of aerotoxic syndrome and found traces of organophosphates and volatile organic compounds in their blood.

Dr Astrid Heutelbeck, who led the research, told German newspaper The Local: ‘These are all substances that are forbidden in consumer products.’

Organophosphates, however, are known to circulate widely in the environment as they are used in many pesticides.

This means the general public can often be exposed to these chemicals by eating fruit or vegetables without washing them first.

Some organophosphates are also used for treating lice in fish farming and there are fears the chemicals can accumulate in the bodies of marine animals.

Historically, organophosphates were also used in nerve agents for chemical weapons.

It is thought they may get into aircrafts from fuel leaks from the engine into the air supply.

According to the UK’s department of transport, fume events occur on roughly 0.05 per cent of flights.

Research conducted by Cranfield University for the Department of Transport in 2011 showed 95 per cent of aircraft cabin samples had no detectable amounts of two organophosphates called TCP and TOCP.

It did find low levels of an organophosphate called TBP, which is an element in aircraft hydraulic fluid, but the levels were 1,000 times smaller than the exposure limits set by health authorities.

New airliners, such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, are now being designed to avoid the use of ‘bleed air’ from the engines.

A 2013 report published by Professor Michael Bagshaw, a specialist in aviation medicine at Kings College London, also noted: ‘The amounts of organophosphates to which aircraft crew members could be exposed, even over multiple, long-term exposures, are insufficient to produce neurotoxicity.’

However, the new study is likely to raise fresh concerns and lead to calls for a full epidemiological study being conducted to assess the risk to passengers and aircrew.

Do You Experience God’s Miracle In Your Life?

Genesis 2I grew up in a family that strongly believes in God. At the corner of my parents’ bed room, stands a small table covered with a white cloth. On this table, lies the Holy Bible, which belongs to my mother. She wakes up early in the morning to pray without ceasing. Sometimes I see her shedding tears in her prayers, when she feels her prayers had been answered or touched spiritually.

Life, to many is sex, enjoyment, doing drugs, rock and roll, then after, you say good bye to your friends, when it’s time to go and sleep peacefully or tormented in your grave. That’s not the meaning of life. Life has a significant meaning or purpose. Watching my mother, each morning, behind the small table, I developed certain interest in seeking the face of God and started following her footsteps.

I read my Bible daily, and tried my best to live to the principle the holy book teaches. Like everyone, I wasn’t perfect, I did many things which I shouldn’t do as a child, but not in my adult hood. As I begin to mature, I started experiencing the miracle of God’s hand in my life. There are times I joke about it saying: Death doesn’t like ugly people, the reason I’m still living.

I was once carried away by the sea, because I couldn’t swim. Like Jonah in the belly of the whale and brought to the shores of Nineveh, after people gave up to save me, they watched as a mighty wave brought me ashore. The impact was heavy and the state of shock I find myself in at that moment, prevented me to put on my clothes. I walked home naked. Till now I’m scared of the sea and can’t swim.

I was once crossing a busy street in Africa, after watching both sides of the road, I felt secured to cross, but from nowhere I was caught up in the middle of the road, when a taxi hits me. Like a superman, I find my body in the mid-air, landing on top of the vehicle’s bonnet. The impact severely damaged the bonnet, but I survived.

In Africa, I was travelling on a mini-bus with other passengers. It was a very sunny day. I think the pressure in the vehicle’s Tyre warmed up to certain degrees Celsius, thus; one of the front Tyre’s exploded. The vehicle somersaulted continuously and finally landed on its side. I jumped out from the front seat without a scratch, when many were rushed to the hospital with injuries.

In Lagos State, Nigeria, I was kidnapped by armed robbers in military uniform. It was a swift action which took me by surprise. I was holding a small hand bag which attracted them. They thought probably the bag has over a million dollars. In the rear of the car, I struggled with them and wouldn’t let the bag go, while the butt of the rifles they were holding rain on every part of my body, including my head.

After every attempt failed, they pushed me from the vehicle while in motion and I landed on the ground with a force, like a bag of salt. I stood up, brushed the dust off my body and walked home. But the scars of the beating I had, can still be traced on my body today, after three decades.

In Amsterdam, I was nearly killed by a woman while on my bicycle. I fell and rolled ahead, while her front Tyre were on my bicycle. According to her, the sun partially blinded her, so she didn’t see me. I had bruises all over my body. She carried my badly damaged bicycle to a repairers’ shop and paid for the cost. Anxious to know of my condition, she called me the next day. I told her I’m doing well. That was the last time she called.

In Antwerp, Belgium, after holidays in Africa, I came back penniless with bills to pay. There was a particular one I needed time to pay 110 Euros at my son’s secondary school. That was a second letter reminding me, thus; the third letter wouldn’t be good for me. The end of the month to get my salary was still far, thus; the situation was actually disturbing.

It was winter and very dark, on my way to work, I spotted something like a folded money on the bicycle lane. I stopped and walked back to see if it’s money or mind is just playing tricks on me. Behold, it was money. I took it and unfolded it. Guess how much? Two fifty Euro notes, one ten Euro note and one five Euro note, a total of 115 Euros.

After work, I quickly went home to pay the 110 Euros to the school and used the five Euros to buy some few thing I needed most. There is no need to doubt over these stories, because they came from Joel Savage, the writer who loves non-fiction articles and books. Have you ever experienced the miracle of God’s hand in your life?

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Said Jesus at Matthew 7:7. Just as sports is good for the body, reading the Bible is good for the mind and your spiritual being.

Gatwick Terminal’s North Terminal shut down after reports of ‘suspect package’ at airport. France also in lockdown after a series of coordinated terror attacks across Paris on Friday. Follow latest updates

Jeremy Corbyn condemns “horrific and immoral” attack

Christopher Hope writes:

Jeremy Corbyn, newly sworn as a privy counsellor which allows him to be briefed on state secrets, will get a Downing Street security briefing today in the wake of the French terror attacks in Paris today.

Here is his statement:

“Today, all our thoughts and sympathy are with the people of Paris.

“What took place in the French capital yesterday was horrific and immoral.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of France – as with all victims of terror and violence.

“I have cancelled my engagements today to hold discussions on events in France with shadow cabinet colleagues and be briefed by Downing Street security officials.

“It’s vital at a time of such tragedy and outrage not to be drawn into responses which feed a cycle of violence and hatred.

“We are proud to live in a multicultural and multi-faith society, and we stand for the unity of all communities.”

Gatwick’s North Terminal has flights suspended

Lyndsey Telford is at Gatwick Airport where she reports that North Terminal is still evacuated.

Flights departing from the North Terminal, where a man was arrested after a suspicious item was found, have been suspended. Entrance to the terminal is cordoned off with a small police presence.

Hundreds of confused and frustrated passengers have formed a winding queue unsure of whether their flights will depart at all. Passengers arriving on flights into the airport have described scenes of “chaos” and “mayhem”.

Alex Pollock arrived this morning on a flight from Bordeaux into the North Terminal. He said: “As soon as we got off the plane, we were met by Border Force security guys who told us the area had been evacuated and we had to get as far away from the North Terminal as possible”.

He said staff at Gatwick seemed to have “no idea” about the security alert. “It’s been absolutely chaotic, which has made the whole experience all the more unnerving.”

Separately, passengers trying to leave Gatwick have been told public transport was in “lockdown”, but it is understood trains are in fact arriving and departing from the airport.

Children’s Story: Why The Sheep Often Stands In The Middle Of The Road But The Goat Wouldn’t

Stories play vital role in the lives of children. Years back, our ancestors create stories to entertain children. There are thousands of African stories for children.

Everyone knows how stubborn the Goat is and humble the Sheep is, yet they put aside their differences to become friends.

In an argument, the Goat told the Sheep: “You are very stupid.” And the Sheep told the Goat: “Don’t let my humbleness deceive you, because I’m one of the wisest creatures on earth.”

Goat 4

The goat escapes through the window of the bus, after failing to pay his fare  for the journey.

“Why are you called ‘The Stubborn Goat? Let me remind you of this reference in Psalm 109:3, about me: The Sheep quotes, “You know that the Lord, he is God! It is he, who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” “Because you are stubborn, your reference in the Bible is “Separating Goats from Sheep,” you better change your ways, to inherit the Kingdom of God.” The Sheep concluded.

What the Sheep told Goat, touched him emotionally that he decides to repent and change his ways. He suggested to the Sheep that they should embark on a journey to have a good time, to enable him learn more from him and the Sheep agreed. The fully prepared Sheep took everything he needs for the journey, including money to buy food.

Even though the Goat is aware of what they need for the journey, he took everything and ignored taking some money with him. It seems the greedy and stubborn Goat isn’t yet ready to change his bad habits. Mid way in the journey, the driver’s mate starts collecting the fare from passengers. Everyone in the bus, including Sheep paid, but the Goat told the mate: “My money is deep in my pocket, I will pay you when we reach our destination.”

The driver’s mate refused to accept Goat’s explanation, because he knows how cunning Goat is. He told Goat: “I will only agree to your proposal if you allow me to put this rope around your neck, so that you might not escape.” The answer goat wasn’t expecting made him start sweating profusely. Goat knows that he has no choice than to escape. While the vehicle still in motion, the desperate Goat leaped through one of the opened window’s of the bus, leaving his seat and Sheep behind.

SHEEP 2

The sheep stands in the middle of the road waiting for the driver’s mate to collect back his change.

The stupefied Sheep was shocked to the extent that he forgets to collect his change, after making the payment to the driver’s mate, while Goat’s name was added to the wanted people’s list. This is the reason the Goat many times escapes when he sees an approaching vehicle, while Sheep stands in the middle of the street, waiting for the driver’s mate, to collect back his forgotten change.

Ryanair Is A Fraudulent Airline: Why Airline Asks Passengers To Print Boarding Pass Online When They Have Workers At Airports To Serve Passengers?

Passengers board a Ryanair plane parked at Girona airport, September 20, 2012. Ryanair has welcomed a meeting between Irish and Spanish aviation authorities to resolve a dispute between the airline and the Spanish government over safety standards. Ryanair: Designed a scheme taking illegal money from passengers over lack of printing boarding pass online.

When did Ryanair begin to ask passengers to print boarding passes online, without the intervention of International Air Transport Association (AITA)? Because this is a fraud and a crime.

I made booking online to Barcelona on July 13, 2015 and I received confirmation that I will be leaving with Vueling Airline and my arrival with Ryanair. If I knew that Ryanair requests passengers to print boarding pass online, I would have cancel the flight immediately.

I printed my the bookings online and at the National Airport in Belgium, I was successfully given a boarding pass by Vueling official, when I presented the printout bookings. After visiting Barcelona, I confirmed my return flight but at the National Airport of Barcelona, when I gave them the bookings printout, Rynair officials demanded my boarding pass.

I said, what do you mean by boarding pass when Rynair needs to give me one before boarding my flight. To my utmost surprise, the Ryanair official behind the counter told me I need to print it online. I asked her, what’s her significance  as Rynair official working at the airport, and expecting passengers to print their boarding pass online?

The official refused to serve me the boarding pass until I paid the sum of 45 Euros. This is illegal and a fraud, Ryanair should know this. No one forces an airline to operate on low fares. If they have decided to do that, they shouldn’t find way and means to take money illegally from passengers.

Until Rynair refund the illegal 45 Euros they collected from me, I will make sure that within a year the airline goes bankrupt.  A Spanish court has already ruled out that Ryanair has no right to force customers to print their own boarding passes.

The judge in Barcelona said that, under international air travel conventions, Ryanaircan neither demand passengers turn up at the airport with their boarding pass, nor charge them €40 (£34) if they do not.

“I declare abusive and, therefore, null, the clause in the contract by which Ryanair obliges the passenger to take a boarding pass to the airport,” Judge Barbara Cordoba said.
