After Mosque Arson, This Synagogue Opened Its Doors to Muslims in Need of a Place to Pray

Sometimes it seems as if the world is full of nothing but sectarian violence and interfaith animosity. In Peterborough, Ontario, however, an act of hate intended to tear a city apart has instead brought it closer together.

The Masjid al-Salaam mosque serves a Muslim community of around 1,000. On November 14, that community suddenly found itself without a place to worship after a fire—believed to be deliberately set in what police are investigating as a “hate crime”—destroyed Peterborough’s only Muslim prayer space, causing a reported $80,000 in damages. It’s an attack that shocked the city, and drew immediate condemnation from Mayor Darryl Bennett, who called the arson “totally out of character” for his community, echoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who said he was “deeply disturbed,” reports CBC.ca.

In response to the attack, Peterborough’s Jewish community has stepped up and offered their prayer space to the temporarily displaced mosque members as place where they can worship. Larry Gillman, president of the city’s Beth Israel Synagogue, told The Canadian Jewish News: “I immediately sent an email to our board with the idea of sharing our space with the Muslim community, realizing that they were not going to have a place to pray in the meantime.”

Since extending their invitation, Beth Israel has hosted a number of prayer sessions for the mosque’s members, as well as an interfaith potluck dinner. Children from the synagogue greeted their guests with a large, handmade banner reading “Welcome Friends,” hung across the wall of the makeshift prayer space.

Canadian media outlet CityNews reported from the scene:

To that end, the synagogue also shares its space with the local Unitarian Fellowship.

Speaking with CBC.ca, Masjid al-Salaam president Kenzu Abdella described a sense of trepidation after receiving the synagogue’s offer, but “within 24 hours, that changed. [Synagogue representatives] walked to the mosque and told us that whatever we need, they will support us.”

Even though it came out of a tragedy,” he added, “we are working together.”

In addition to the temporary prayer space, a crowdfunding effort raised over $110,000 to cover the cost of the mosque’s reconstruction.

We’re so grateful to everyone,” Abdella told The Canadian Jewish News. “It’s not just the financial aspect that really makes us very proud to be Canadian and proud to be a part of the Peterborough community, but the comments we’ve received in support …

More Hatred For Foreigners In Belgium Aftermath The France Attacks

MoroccoNot every Moroccan or Muslim is a terrorist and not every African is a criminal, but whenever terrorists strike or an African commits a crime, all eyes are on foreigners as criminals or  terrorists.

The recent  events in France; leaving dozens dead in shootings and explosions, have generated pure hatred to foreigners in Belgium. Belgium is a country integration is very poor, compared to other European countries, yet they do their best for foreigners

According to a Moroccan woman who visited the hospital with her daughter, the day terrorists attacked France, she saw the anger on the face of the doctor who was attending her child. At one point her daughter’s head hit an object when the doctor lifts up the child.

At work, she greets but no one responds. It was really a psychological torture for her to find herself in the center of such hatred, when she wasn’t part of France attacks or not a terrorist.

Once listening to a radio debate over Muslims in Brussels, a man suggested that the Muslim community in Brussels needs a swimming pool for Muslims alone.  This Moroccan woman who doesn’t agree to what the man said, called to tell the man “You are in Belgium, go to Morocco and build your swimming pool there.”

Unfortunately, after the France attacks, she is now a victim of hatred, with many others, because she is a Moroccan. It’s completely wrong to hate someone over crime other people commit. I don’t hate any European for all the bad things they did against Africa, thus; I wouldn’t be happy for someone to hate me, because of a crime a foreigner commits.

World Of Horror: Why Do You Throw Acid On My Face If I don’t Love You?

“A woman is a flower in the middle of the garden and the man is the fence around it.” This is one of the thousands of proverbs used daily in my native country Ghana. It’s a saying which reminds everyone the importance of woman in the society from Biblical to our present day abode. They build a nation, they are therefore creatures to adore, cherish, support, protect and love.

Unfortunately, in many parts of the world women are far from freedom. Some are fighting for education, to work like everyone, to drive and to participate in public functions. Religion is used as a stumbling block to dominate and deny women of their rights.  Under the bondage of religion a woman becomes a subject to cruelty, slavery and violence.

Acid 10

Religion calls for the stoning to death of a woman when she commits adultery, but the same religion permits a man to marry more than one woman and continues enjoying life after committing adultery himself, behind his chains of married women. There is something wrong here and I think heaven must be missing an angel who delivers justice to the bad ones. Many religions speak about God, but the cruelty and violence nature demand ‘What kind of God are they really worshiping?

From generation to generation women have suffered violence of every nature, including sexual harassment, domestic violence and rape. The latest is acid attack. In Asia a woman who isn’t interested in marriage proposals often end up disfigured with acid. Here comes a man of 40, he wants to marry girl of 14. A fourteen year old child could be your daughter. Due to her age when she rejects her suitor’s proposal, her punishment is to be disfigured by acid. Shockingly many involved in such crimes walk on the street without punishment.

Acid 5

In Bangalore, India, a former school teacher and mother of two received extensive surgery on her neck, face and hand, after acid attack. What’s her crime? She was beautiful and he resented the admiring glances she got. I will ask again, what kind of God do these people worship? Corruption rules many parts of Asia; thus; many commit heinous crime with impunity. This is the reason acid attack on women is very high in Asia and Middle-East without ceasing.

Acid 6

Images of cruelty of men that claim they worship ‘Allah.’

Victims of acid attack are completely cut from society, because they don’t look like normal human beings again. Their injuries are horrible to the extent that they prefer to be isolated. World leaders turn blind on important issues and waste their time on things less important. How can women continue to suffer in this way? Yet they feel so proud and strong to tell countries that don’t support homosexuality to accept same sex marriage. That is all what they can do.  This is disgraceful; something must be done to stop this madness.

Acid 2

Anyone who throws an acid on someone intention is to destroy or kill, because not all victims are fortunate to survive such attacks. The punishment for such perpetrators should therefore be life imprisonment. There is international court of justice in The Hague, Holland, putting those who have committed political crimes behind bars, but those involved in this grave crime against humanity are walking free, enjoying daily life with impunity.

Memona, acid burn victim.

A true Muslim can never do this to a woman.

What is justice and where can these women find one? Who can help, save and protect women from this menace and violence society? Acid attacks on women should be taken as a serious crime and those responsible be caged for the rest of their lives, this will serve as a deterrent to others, because they are not human beings.
