On Top Of The World: Review By Joel Savage

Novel

An inspirational and adventurous book, empowered by the values of determination, understanding, and perseverance. Although, the entire book is based on fiction, the experiences, and the lessons continue to live with us every day, as a guide for our own success

Love is strange and complicated. It becomes more complicated when combined with diverse careers and the choices we make. The euphoria can make you feel disorganized and restless and sometimes put one in emotional complex situations.
It’s been three years since Belle walks out of the life of Scrooje but many times she finds herself thinking about him feeling a familiar smile sweeps across her face. That’s something she wants to avoid sometimes but assured herself nothing wrong thinking about ex-lover.At times, things don’t go the way she wants. As the ring girl at her parents’ vow renewal, she stumbles, falls into the grass and lost the rings. That wasn’t the end. As a ballerina, despite being the best in her class, the day of the recital something went wrong as she tumbles down like Humpty Dumpty.

Belle wouldn’t let setbacks be a stumbling block on her chosen path to success. She sees something different in her which motivates her. In the field of music, together with Scrooje and his best friend Marley they rise to success, finding themselves instantly on top of the world.

They enjoyed the best part of life as celebrities. Out of misfortunes come fortune or just greed? Marley dies in a tragic accident and Scrooje uses it as an opportunity to exploit Marley. He sells millions of records and lives a false life by cheating other artists.

The chapter is 28, “Money like Trump, I want that money like Trump. Hey, like I said, it’s only entertainment people, sheds light on a scene that took place during one of the political campaigns of Donald Trump.

My favorite part of the book is at page 166: “Staying up late, reading those books to try and feel what he’d felt and like he’d thought was the reason I’d gotten my first pair of double-wide double thick glasses in the first place. By the time I got to high school, those late night reading binges had instilled a love of books in me.”

‘Top Of The World,’ is an inspirational and adventurous book, empowered by the values of determination, understanding, and perseverance. Although, the entire book is based on fiction, the experiences, and the lessons continue to live with us every day, as a guide for our own success.

The I-Threes: The Golden Voices Behind Bob Marley

RIT 2Rita Marley, Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths

Music is like my passport and water I need daily when travelling. I can’t do without it because it gives me inspiration. It’s great to have musicians and players of instruments around us. Music fills the courts of heaven as heavenly beings praise our Lord and Creator. When God created the world, the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy, that’s what the Bible says at (Job 38:7)

Music fills the courts of heaven as heavenly beings praise our Lord and Creator. When God created the world, the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy, that’s what the Bible says at (Job 38:7)

You will know the I-THREES if you love music because they were highly talented musicians supporting Bob Marley as back vocals, in the history of Jamaican music. Rita Marley, Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths, knew each other long before they became internationally known.

Marcia Griffiths was already a star before the group I-Threes were formed. Her duet recordings with Bob Andy, which included “Young, Gifted and Black,” had brought her international attention, when she invited Judy Mowatt, who had previously sung with ‘The Gaylettes,’ and Rita Anderson, to support her on a recording with Andy. This invitation brought the three women together.

In Jamaica, that time was ‘The Wailers’ formed in 1963, which was a vocal group consisting of Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, Bunny Livingston, Bob Marley, Peter McIntosh, and Cherry Smith. Livingston later became Bunny Wailer and McIntosh simply Peter Tosh. In 1966, Braithwaite, Kelso, and Smith left the group leaving the trio of Livingston, Marley, and McIntosh.

Shortly after the departure of McIntosh and Livingston from the group, Bob Marley asked the three women to sing on his recording, Jah Live. They continued to sing for Bob Marley as back vocals for the next ten years. Later Bob Marley married Rita Andersen, whose original country of birth was Cuba. Surprisingly, both Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh became successful in their solo careers.

In early 1975, the I-Threes joined Marley for a tour as opening act for ‘The Jackson Five.’ The I-Threes continued to sing with Bob Marley until and after his death. But that wasn’t the end of the careers of the women, the three pursued a successful solo career.

On May 26, 2009, the I-Threes performed with Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespear, the Compass Point All Stars and celebrated Island Records’ 50th-anniversary in London at Shepherd Bush Empire. The message of The I-Threes is one love, hope, peace and unity to all mankind.

Sitting Here In Limbo: Got Some Time To Search My Soul- Jimmy Cliff

Jimmy-Cliff 2Jimmy Cliff, crossing many rivers to UN Peace Ambassador

Reggae music is inspirational. It is a music that carries Jah’s prophetical message, the truth and the light. It’s a music that gives comfort and satisfaction to sufferers, the down trodden victims and gives hope to the common people denied justice and abused in the society.

I love reggae music, because it gives me inspiration to write without ceasing. Just as I love the music, the same way I love the artists and the players of the instruments behind the music. Jimmy Cliff is one of my favourite reggae artists. I love almost all his songs but not more than this great song called ‘Sitting Here In Limbo.’

Sitting here in limbo

But I know it won’t be long

Sitting here in limbo

Like a bird without a song

Well, they’re putting up a resistance

But I know that my faith will lead me on

Sitting here in limbo

Waiting for the dice to roll

Yeah, now, sitting here in limbo

Got some time to search my soul

Well, they’re putting up a resistance

But I know that my faith will lead me on

I don’t know where life will leave me

But I know where I have been

I can’t say what life will show me

But I know what I have seen

Tried my hand at love and friendship

But all that is past and gone

This little boy is movin’ on

Sitting here in limbo

Waiting for the tide to flow

Sitting here in limbo

Knowing that I have to go

Well, they’re putting up a resistance

But I know that my faith will lead me on

I don’t know where life will take me

But I know where I have been

I don’t know what life will show me

But I know what I have seen

Tried my hand at love and friendship

That is past and gone

And now it’s time to move along

Gonna lead me on now

Meanwhile, they’re putting up resistance

But I know that my faith will lead me on

Sitting in limbo, limbo, limbo

Sitting in limbo, limbo, limbo

Sitting in limbo, limbo, limbo

Meanwhile, they’re putting up a resistance

But I know that my faith will lead me on

Sopravvivendo A Scortese Roma Attraverso La Musica Dei Miei Musicisti Preferiti

Listen to Antonello Venditti sings ‘Amici Mai.’

NB. (This short article is to try if I still remember my Italian language, because since 1993, I left the Italian community I’ve never spoken the language.)

Jimmy Cliff’s Inspirational ‘Dear Mother’ Lyrics

Cliff 2Jimmy Cliff’s classic album: Follow My Mind.

Apart from Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Toots & The Maytals, John Holt, Desmond Decker etc, and other early Jamaican musicians that provided a solid foundation for the reggae music, Jimmy Cliff is one of the  musical legends that rose to international stardom with uncountable hits and numerous albums.

In this article, it’s not my intention to write about Jimmy Cliff’s biography or achievements in the field of music, since there are hundreds of articles about this great musician and perfect gentleman appointed ‘Peace Ambassador’ by the United Nations, but to share some of his inspiring lyrics.

In 1976, Jimmy Cliff came out with one of his masterpiece albums entitled ‘Follow My Mind.’ On this album were “I’m Gonna Live, I’m Gonna Love, Dear Mother, Remake The World, Wahjahka Man, Going Mad, You’re The Only One, If I follow My Mind, Look At The Mountains, No Woman No Cry, Who Feels It Knows It and Hypocrites.”

One of my favorite songs on this album which sold worldwide is “Dear Mother.” From generation to generation, the lyrics of this great song continue to inspire me, to love my mother more and more, since she still lives, after losing my father when he was just 43. Below  is the lyric of Jimmy Cliff’s ‘Dear Mother.’ Enjoy Jimmy Cliff’s great tunes and golden voice in his film The Harder They Come.’

Dear Mother

Do you have a dear mother

Kind, devoted and true
Dear mother I’m sending to you
Best wishes and all the day through
May your days be cloudless and clear
Bringing to you true happiness each day and night of the year

She’s my mother
And I love her so
More than any other
Anywhere I go

Do you have a dear mother
Kind, devoted and true
Dear mother may all that is fair
Come to you right through the year
While I was a child you were my god
You were always dear to me and always were by my side

She’s my mother
And I love her so, yes I do
More than any other
Anywhere I go

Do you have a dear mother
So devoted and true
Dear mother I’m sending to you
Best wishes and all the day through
May your days be cloudless and clear
Bringing to you true happiness each day and night of the year

She’s my mother
And I love her so, yes I do
More than any other
Anywhere I go, talking ’bout my mother

She’s my mother
And I love her so
More than any other, woman in this world
Anywhere I go

She’s my mother

Choosing A Wholesome Entertainment For Children

Ban dangerous games on the television

The love for money has encouraged companies to manufacture dangerous games for children

Very often psychologists and psychiatrists trace the cause of our present day ailments to homes.  Homes have straightforward stories to tell. The set up of our homes, immediately convey the message to a visitor the nature and character of those dwelling there and the sort of training or life being acquired from it.

Living in unsafe community, low-quality child care, lack of resources, broken homes, divorces etc; are some of the causes affecting children. Even though entertainment is said to enhance children’s education, it is said to be one of the major factors which affect children’s behavior. What programs are children watching on the television or what kind of games are they playing?

Unsafe, violent and crime games, are yearly produced by ‘Games Manufacturing Companies’ for children. Those companies called them ‘entertainments’ for children. The strong desire for money prevents them to see the harm they are doing to children. Staying hours playing these violent games continue affecting and shaping the lives of these children.

When a child starts cursing, using bad words at home or school is the time the child needs admonition from parents or teachers. They often learn those bad words from the programs they watched on the television or the games they play. The next thing is asking for fake or toy guns for their birthdays. A mother who loves her child will do everything to make him or her happy.

However, buying a toy gun for your son on his birthday, because he wants it, is a way of training your child to be a gun lover. The reason in the United States of America, many children are involved in juvenile crimes, relating to shootings. Yes, some children indulge in entertainments that graphically portrays immoral behavior.

Think, for example, movie and radio stations. Some movie stations feature only violent movies and some radio  stations play sadistic and demonic music. Violent hip-hop or rap music, become some children’s favorite music. They don’t only sing, but they do the violent things the songs preach. When violently erupts, it doesn’t only sweep along those that called for it, but also innocent victims. That’s the sad part of it.

People are confused about religion. Islam they say means ‘Brotherhood, Togetherness, and Peace, but what we see now is terrorism engulfing our neighborhood, discouraging parents to speak to children about the Gospel  or to embrace Bible principles. Religious violence shouldn’t prevent mothers to encourage children to adhere to educating and inspiring Biblical principles.

Education starts from home and what parents teach children from early childhood, become part of someone’s personality and characteristics. Therefore, the things kids learn from their parents have a lasting impression on people. Thus; parents should be careful about teaching their kids the moral values and responsibilities to the society.

The Successful Music Career Of Winston Rodney, Aka Burning Spear

Spear 2

In a display of true humbleness, Burning Spear, is no doubt one of the greatest reggae artists the world has ever known. Born as Winston Rodney, on Ist March 1945, in Saint Ann’s Bay in Jamaica, musicians such as “The Maytals” and “Bob Marley and the Wailers” influenced him.

According to him, it was his encounter with Bob Marley, that ignited his life to fame from 1969. He has then made a couple of songs, but doesn’t know where to start. Then Bob told him to go to “Studio One” and he did. Today among great reggae artists, his music can be heard in every part of the world.

In the lives of individuals, many do remember the mistake one does, than all the good things the person has done. But Burning Spear didn’t forget the direction Bob gave him. He gave credit to Bob Marley in his song “As it is” taken from his album ” Calling Rastafari.” He sings, “I start singing in the late sixties. Told about Studio One by Bob Marley.” But who is actually this man called Burning Spear and why did he choose such a name unto himself?

I never had the opportunity to interview Mr. Rodney, like other great reggae stars, but just as he has been following the footsteps of the great Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King etc, believing God send them to help black people, the same way, I have been following his music for a very long time.

Like the waves retreating into the sea, I went back and compiled the names of some of his old and new songs, to find out the message of Burning Spear’s music. Yes “He stands strong, The world should know, that Man in the hills, Far over, Calling Rastafari to Jah’s Kingdom. His mistress music don’t sell out and Christopher Columbus can’t change his Identity and Fittest of the fittest has made him a Free man.”

Being inspired by the late Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya, Burning Spear put the title of Jomo Kenyatta (Burning Spear ) unto himself as his name. From there on, the flame of the spear is unquenchable, singing about slavery, discrimination and praising men like Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Kwame Nkrumah and Martin Luther King etc. His reason of cherishing these men are simple and logical, because they paved the way for I and I (Africans) to be recognised.

Spear 1Burning Spear showed his love for Africa from his great hit “Greetings” from the album “Far Over,” after his trip to Africa. Greetings Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.” He said. He lamented bitterly about blacks in the United States of America who have no intention and respect for the culture. As if they have forgotten their history, some even hate to be referred to as Africans. “Even though they say I’m a Yankee” Burning Spear said he still loves them because they are his brothers and sisters.

After over thirty years of his prolific music career, the tireless Burning Spear surprisingly after his 27th album special, released in 1999, Calling Rastafari, which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2000. In 2003, he released another album captioned “Free man” with great numbers such as “Trust, Not Guilty, loved for who I am etc”

Despite that MTV doesn’t promote reggae music, Burning Spear has excelled to be one of the world’s famous musicians. His songs speak of its self. Truly, the achievements of Burning Spear, in the field of reggae, shall remain in the music history for ever.
