Belgium: Is The Royal Family Proud Of The Horrible Crime Leopold II Committed In Africa?

Mathilde 2King Philippe and Queen Mathilde: What kind of heart do they have inside them?

“It takes a million people to build up a good reputation, but it takes one stupid fool to destroy everything they have done,” sings the late Lucky Dube, South Africa’s reggae legend. This is the exact situation of the Royal Family of Belgium, because one of the ancestors, King Leopold II, was a greedy mad ruler and a murderer.

Some women have given birth to monsters to rule this world. Apart from Adolf Hitler, Idi Amin, Pol Pot, Josef Stalin, Saddam Hussein etc, another evil man whose crimes against humanity shocked the world is King Leopold II. Born on 17 December 1865 in Brussels, the horrible crimes Leopold committed were swept under the carpet, but the hump in the carpet has exposed his heinous crimes to be seen by the whole world.

In  1880’s, when Europe was scrambling over the continent of Africa like ants stumbling upon sugar, Congo became the personal property of King Leopold II of Belgium. The 905,000 square miles (76 times larger than Belgium) of African rainforest held vast natural mineral resources, including in rubber, a commodity in high demand in late 19th century industrial Europe.

King Leopold II of Belgium was responsible for the deaths and mutilation of 10 million Congolese Africans during the late 1800’s. On his throne in Brussels, Leopold gave orders to his commanding officer to: Cut off the heads of the men and hang them on the village palisades, also their sexual members, and to hang the women and the children on the palisade in the form of a cross.”

Leopold’s reign of terror wasn’t only the cutting off the heads and hands of the innocent helpless Congolese but flogging them to death, starving them into forced labour, holding children ransom and burning villages, as a punishment for those who failed to meet the rubber quotas set by the Belgian officers.

The disturbing part of this story is after  the death of Leopold II, his successors (The Belgian Royal Family) never took his crimes into account. Instead, he was hailed as a hero, naming of streets after him and building of his statue. That’s where the Royal Family went wrong because the dead can’t be mocked. There are many restless souls haunting people in their homes. There are houses people can’t stay inside, all because of the horrible circumstances those people were murdered.

This terrible mistake has cast a gloomy shadow on Belgium’s Royal Family, portraying them as evil people in the society today, despite their national duties, charitable service and their selfless help for the poor and  the sick. Yes, sometimes you can do good things in the society, but when the evil seed you’ve sown grows, it covers up all the good work you’ve done. The Royal Family may think they are the most adorable family in the world, yet they have millions, not thousands of enemies across the world for supporting crime.

Slavery was abolished in America in 1865, the Berlin wall came tumbling down in 1989, while Apartheid bowed to democracy in 1994, yet the Leopold’s statue which is not only degrading Africans but also the Belgium’s Royal Family is still standing on its feet. There is time for everything. A time of sadness, a time of happiness, a time to sow, a time to reap, a time of birth, a time to die. It’s now time for Leopold’s statue to come down if the Royal Family really respect themselves.

How Violence Takes Away Our Joy And Peace

Aiport 2Tighter airport security is necessary but are we free from terrorism?

Everyone wants to live a peaceful and happy life, instead many wake up in the morning with fear, because of constant violence erupting around us. Innocent victims, including children are caught up daily, in heinous crimes and violence, making living more difficult.

Many, including religious people, feel that violence is the right answer to provocation, in this way, they kill and praise God for that killing. It’s actually difficult to understand the reason some religious people praise God for killings.

I can understand why many have lost faith and even think God doesn’t exist, but the Bible teaches that violence originated with the archenemy of both God and man: Satan the Devil, whom Jesus Christ called “a murderer.” (John 8:44)

Apart from terrorism which continue to steal our happiness, most of our own misery comes from our homes. The world’s infatuation with media violence, games and unwholesome programs, influence children to indulge in crime. In America many children take gun to school.

The question people often ask is: Why is there so much suffering? Does God care about what humans are enduring? You can find answers to these questions when you read the Bible.

“Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.  And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.” Matthew 11:11-20.

In the midst of fear, hopelessness and uncertainty, we need to ask, who are we to depend on for our deliverance or safety? Are we to depend on politicians or church of leaders?

To me politicians have ruined our society more than the terrorists terrorizing us. As for church leaders, some have signed contract with the devil to please them, the reason many have gone astray.

In our present generation, one shouldn’t count on politicians and or some church leaders. The only way we can live in peace is to find ways to make positive changes in our behavior. We should cultivate the habit to forgive and forget, because forgiveness brings relief and comfort.

Above all we should always remember the words of the great teacher, Jesus Christ: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:39.

BELGIUM: If There Is No Statue Of Adolf Hitler, There Shouldn’t Be Statue Of Leopold

Leopold

Statue of the murderer and butcher of Congo, Leopold II

How would you feel as a black man, whether from Africa, America, Jamaica, Cuba, Surinam, Tobago, Trinidad, Guyana etc; if you see a statue of a murderer and a useless king, called Leopold II, who killed over 10 Africans, including the ancestors of Africans in the Diaspora, children and women in Belgium?

Believe me, your thoughts and feelings will never be the same and wish to curse Belgium for God to rain down brimstone and fire over them, if He humbly hears our prayers, because innocent blood can’t be shed and the dead can’t be mocked. I am very happy for the Jews; not seeing any statue today, of that criminal called Hitler who killed six million of them.

I give my greatest thanks to God, for bringing me to Europe decades ago, else I wouldn’t have known that some white people, including politicians and journalists, are senseless like a waste matter. Because at school we were brainwashed by our stupid teachers that the white man is closer to God, the reason they are very intelligent.

Upon arrival in Europe, I realized our teachers are just fools like those white men they thought are nearer to God. We Africans are rather nearer to God, the reason despite our sufferings, including wars, ethnic problems, man-made diseases, including Aids and Ebola, we keep on surviving.

While the advanced countries, despite the luxury and places of comfort, they are always committing suicide. (That doesn’t mean that I am happy about that, but I am rather commenting on this issue, because for ages, I’m trying to find out the reason, without any solution.)

Writer Joel Savage shares his experience as an Africa in Antwerp

Life in Belgium as a black man is a tough experience , but I always feel happy to be alive and share my story.

I am the happiest man indeed because the articles and books I write make some people uncomfortable. But they never change and remain the same. There is no country that can progress after building a statue of a murderer, the reason if you visit Belgium from other European countries, you’ll see the lack of development and progress in Belgium.
