More Hatred For Foreigners In Belgium Aftermath The France Attacks

MoroccoNot every Moroccan or Muslim is a terrorist and not every African is a criminal, but whenever terrorists strike or an African commits a crime, all eyes are on foreigners as criminals or  terrorists.

The recent  events in France; leaving dozens dead in shootings and explosions, have generated pure hatred to foreigners in Belgium. Belgium is a country integration is very poor, compared to other European countries, yet they do their best for foreigners

According to a Moroccan woman who visited the hospital with her daughter, the day terrorists attacked France, she saw the anger on the face of the doctor who was attending her child. At one point her daughter’s head hit an object when the doctor lifts up the child.

At work, she greets but no one responds. It was really a psychological torture for her to find herself in the center of such hatred, when she wasn’t part of France attacks or not a terrorist.

Once listening to a radio debate over Muslims in Brussels, a man suggested that the Muslim community in Brussels needs a swimming pool for Muslims alone.  This Moroccan woman who doesn’t agree to what the man said, called to tell the man “You are in Belgium, go to Morocco and build your swimming pool there.”

Unfortunately, after the France attacks, she is now a victim of hatred, with many others, because she is a Moroccan. It’s completely wrong to hate someone over crime other people commit. I don’t hate any European for all the bad things they did against Africa, thus; I wouldn’t be happy for someone to hate me, because of a crime a foreigner commits.

The State Of The European Union And The Impact Of Television On The Society

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Joel Savage interviews Sergi Vicente, the Director of Barcelona Televisio.

Apartheid bowed to democracy in South Africa, the Berlin wall came tumbling down and the Soviet Union collapsed. Globally things were financially, economically and politically falling apart, when the European Union was formally established on November I, 1993, to share free market and single monetary policy for over more than 300 million citizens.

Many Europeans, including Belgians, argue that things were better and life more comfortable, before the European Union was formed. For example, the past and present turmoil in other European countries, including Greece, reveal the European Union is unstable and steering into stormy waters.

My recent visit to Barcelona, I called on Mr. Sergi Vicente, the director of Barcelona Televisio, to give me his views and opinion on the present state of the European Union and the impact of the television on the society. Below are the excerpts of the interview.

Joel: There are thousands of Europeans, especially Western Europe, who aren’t satisfied over the formation of the European Union, because the pattern of lives changed, as prices of commodities escalated, affecting, the economy and the standard living of Europeans, leaving many unemployed. Let’s take Greece for example. What do you think?

Vicente: I don’t see the unification of the European Union as a failure. There are advantages and disadvantages in everything but in regard to the Union, the best has been achieved. Transparency, Communication, integration and the growth of successful free market, are some of the achievements. Besides, the EU has thrived to develop liberty, justice,  education, prosperity, peace, security, the protection of the environment and health, thus; helping to disseminate basic human values at the global level.

Joel: Lack of employment, is a situation many Europeans are facing today. What’s the employment situation in Spain?

Vicente: As you just said, it’s a crisis many Europeans are facing, yet the problem has led to the creation of new jobs in other fields to reduce the unemployment rate. Unemployment may be long or short term, but things will improve.

Joel: Journalism is rapidly losing its credibility, that’s the way many feel, because a lot of the media hide the truth and facts from the public. What’s your opinion?

Vicente: As a journalist heading an institution, we try our best to give the right information to the general public. This is the reason readers and viewers have favourite newspapers or television stations. Being transparent is one of the tools to build a good reputation. So I don’t see the reason the media should mislead people.

sergi

Mr. Sergi Vicente, Director of Barcelona Televisio.

Joel: Barcelona used to be a city for drug addicts and peddlers. Is there any change?

Vicente: You’ve already seen that there is a dramatic change in the city, since the country is one of the most visited tourists attraction in the world. The mayor, police and other officials had worked hard and still relentlessly working hard to make the city  healthy and  safe for tourists.

Joel: Television is a great source of entertainment and education, yet many believe it’s responsible for crime and immorality which have plagued and crippled our society.

Vicente: I can’t say television is responsible for crime, even though I agree that it has both advantages and disadvantages.Children are protected and cared by adults, thus, it’s the responsibility of parents to control what children watch on the television. Controling children is part of the training and caring for children. Bad friends can also influence children. As a matter of fact, television educates more than influencing children negatively.

Joel: Mr. Vicente, thanks for the interview.

Vicente: You are welcome.

THE BEER STORY

Holland's Heineken beer

Heineken beer: One of the poorest beers in the world but a good promotion has made it a good beer than any Belgium beer.

Why Holland’s Heineken, Is One Of The Poorest Beers In Europe, But Internationally Known Than Any Quality Beer In Belgium?

In reality, Holland’s famous Heineken beer has no chance with any Belgium beer

This is a humor story created by the writer, even though there are genuine facts.

Both Holland and Belgium have customs they have been following for decades and made names for themselves in producing certain quality products. Apart from the coffee shops selling drugs to customers, with impunity and the tradition of eating a soured raw herring ‘fish), Holland’s Heineken beer has increased the fame of  the country, making it one of the most tourists attraction centers in Western Europe, especially in Amsterdam.

This is where the story begins: Is it a concern to people or the Belgians, to find out the reason Belgium is one of the world’s leading producers of quality beer, yet the fame in that production is completely buried or lost? Yes! Beer experts can tell you that Belgium brews over more than twenty quality beers, including La Chouffe, Corsendonk Peter Noster, Delirium Tremens, Gouden and De Koninck, yet Heineken, a beer produced in Holland, which lacks quality standards, (when compared to Belgium’s beer) is known throughout the whole world, leaving Belgium’s quality beers far behind.

Have you ever heard of this slogan in the field of advertising? “A quality product doesn’t need any advertisement.” Since Belgium believe they produce quality beer, they relaxed, slept and made merry around their products, without making any effort to sell or promote it. They were dwelling on miracles to sell the beer because there is a street in Antwerp called ‘Jezus Straat’ (Jesus Street). It is true that out of compassion Jesus turned water to wine, but to sell Belgium’s quality beer wasn’t in his diary.

While the Belgians were fast asleep, dreaming of miraculous sales of their quality beers and wake up during the day busy building statues and naming streets after King Leopold II, a king that killed and maimed over ten million Africans in Congo, when there is no statue of Adolf Hitler, for killing six million Jews, Holland is actively engaged in seeking international market for their poor Heineken beer. Today Heineken is one of the famous beers in the whole world.

In Africa, we used to say that ‘Kwesi Buronyi Ye Ayen,’ meaning the White man is a Witch, in the sense that they use that witchcraft to develop their country, while African witchcraft destroys. But believe me, if there is witchcraft for destruction, it doesn’t only exist in Africa, because the continent suffered the witchcraft destruction in underdevelopment, slavery, looting and killings in the hands of Europeans and kings like the Butcher of Belgium, King Leopold II.

The best quality beers are available in Belgium

La Chouffe is one of Belgium’s quality beers, but its fame buried forever

A mind or a country full of hatred, racism, and discrimination never progresses. That’s the situation in Belgium. Despite the racial problems worldwide, the Dutch gets along nicely with the Suriname, Curacao, Antillean etc, thus; you can see that Holland is more developed and better integrated than Belgium. The Flemish finds it hard to cooperate with the Walloon, let alone a Congolese.  If Bart De Wever, the mayor of Antwerp, wants the Flemish to be an independent state from Walloon, in such a small country, signifies lack, of proper union and integration.

Finally, how can Belgium establish its name firmly in the world’s beer book, as the leading producer of quality beer to beat Holland? That can never happen because Holland’s Heineken beer is even available at the remote part of Africa, where there is no electricity. Above all, a  bad character that doesn’t change is like a car’s flat tire, it doesn’t move, it always stays at the same place.
