8 Foods That Prevent Cancer

Salmon 2A plate of cancer fighting food

Article originally published in Health Mind Bodies

With today’s way of life, people are more likely to suffer from obesity, and exposed to various diseases or contract some forms of cancer. On the other hand, modern day medicine has evolved such that people can rely on the latest drugs or devices to treat cancer.

When it comes to treating cancer, prevention and detection is probably the best way to nipping it in its bud. Thus, we should always go for regular health screenings to detect cancer in its early stages and isolate it early. On the other hand, we also try to prevent or delay contracting cancer as far as possible by consuming healthy foods, which we have compiled a list of for you. (Do not replace this list with your regular health checkup.)

1.    Cauliflower

Cauliflower contains sulforaphane, a compound that has been shown to have anti-cancer effects. Sulforaphane are released when cauliflower is broken down, so focus on chewing it before swallowing. This compound seeks and destroys certain cancer cells without harming your healthy cells.

There are plenty of recipes available online on how you can add cauliflower to your meals. Cauliflower and broccoli have similar effects, so add broccoli to your list of foods too.

2.    Carrots

Even though carrots are mainly thought to be good for one’s eye sight, researches from the last ten years suggest that they are also good against some types of cancer, one of which is prostate cancer.

A study was done on mice who were fed an increased carrot intake, and the study showed that carrots could stop the growth of prostate cancer. Carrot have many other health benefits too, there is no reason not to eat them!

3.    Avocados

Not many people are fans of this fruit, but avocados as a food are so beneficial, they are almost a must-have item in your kitchen. Avocados have an abundance of nutrients, mostly antioxidants which have been proven to reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer.

Avocados also have a high amount of healthy monounsaturated fat. This is a high-fat fruit, which is definitely interesting, considering how most of the other fruits are very low in fat or even fat free, and avocados can actually help you lose weight and not the reverse.

As a food, they are very versatile. You can make guacamole out of it, add slices to a sandwich or mix in with other fruits to create  a juice or smoothie.

4.    Broccoli

Broccoli is one of the best natural cancer fighters against many types of cancer. Colon and bladder cancer are among the top two cancers that can be treated or even prevented when eating broccoli. Find it in whichever form you can, be it fresh, frozen or pre-cooked, it will still retain most of its nutritional value!

The high fibre levels in broccoli can also help with your digestion, so broccoli is a vegetable that is beneficial for your health to eat often.

5.    Tomatoes

Tomatoes are healthy and tasty at the same time. Cooked tomatoes help your body release more lycopene, a specific phytochemical that provides cancer fighting benefits. Tomatoes also provide you with lots of antioxidants for your body, and are known to be useful to treat or prevent prostate cancer.

There are many ways to eat tomatoes, it can be eaten raw or cooked with dishes, or blended to make juice as well.

6.    Walnuts
Want to prevent breast cancer or prostate cancer? Walnuts may be your answer. They also contain lots of omega 3, a type of fatty acids that is actually beneficial to our health such as lowering our risk of coronary heart diseases and reducing high cholesterol. Walnuts are great as a breakfast food or as a snack in between meals.
7.    Garlic
Eating garlic has numerous health benefits, one of which of course is that it helps to prevent cancer. Garlic is said to be able to stop cancer cells from multiplying and spreading. They also have antiviral and antibacterial effects, acting like antibiotics and can work well especially against fungal infections.
8.    Ginger

Studies have shown that ginger actually works better than cancer drugs in fighting against cancer cells! This is especially noted in a study done examining the effects of ginger has on prostate cancer cells.

Apart from that, it also has anti-inflammatory properties, and can help as a cure against motion sickness. If you tend to suffer from motion sickness, eat some dried ginger peels, or boil ginger in water to make a light ginger water or tea.

Heavy rains remind us of challenges in life. Never ask for a lighter rain, just pray to God for a better umbrella. – That is the attitude!  Life is not about finding the right person, but creating the right relationship. It’s not how we care in the beginning, but how much we care till the very end.

Some people always throw stones in your path. It depends on what you make with them; a Wall or a Bridge? – Remember you are the architect of your life. Search for a good heart, but don’t search for a beautiful face, because beautiful things are not always good, but good things are always beautiful.

It’s not important to hold all the good cards in life, but it’s important how well you play with the cards you hold.  Often when we lose all hope and think this is the end, remember God and pray, it’s just a bend, not the end.’ – Have faith and have a successful life. One of the basic differences between God and humans is, God gives, gives and forgives.

But the human gets, gets, gets and forgets. Be thankful in life..If you think it is your alarm clock that woke you up this morning, try putting it beside a dead body and you will realise that it is the Grace of God that woke you up. Life As Immigrant At The Notorious Pantanella In Via Casilina Rome

Roma Novembre 1990 Ex Pastificio Pantanella occupato da centinaia di immigrati asiatici provenienti dal Pakistan, Bangladesh, Africani tra cui (Joel Savage) Panoramica della Pantanella. Rome

As a child growing up in a strongly religious family, I was thought that everything which is opposite to the teachings of the Holy Bible, including laziness is a sin. I tried my best to live a clean life. We were thought to believe that Israel, Jerusalem, and other Biblical countries were all in heaven, without a slight knowledge those countries were on the same earth we are living today.

When I left my family looking for a job, I tried to be sincere and prevented doing anything wrong which could land me in jail. I read that jail changes people’s attitude to be good or worse. But I wasn’t interested to know the positive or negative influences of jail on people. My only interest is never to be there because it’s not the right place for me.

In the year 1990, from Lagos, Nigeria, I made a transit in Rome, on my way to German. In Rome, I was detained at the Fiumicino airport. The Italian immigration regularly does that to many foreigners, especially Africans. Like a tourist, I walked around the airport lounge without a room to sleep and food for three days. On the third, I was really starving, so I approached one of the immigration officials and said to him that I am hungry. He looked at my face and asked me “Am I your father?” Then he walked away.

Without knowing what the officials have in store for me, I handed over an application for asylum as a journalist and it worked, because I have some few publications over my profession on me. On the fourth day, from nowhere came one of the immigration officers, he said to me: “Your application has been accepted, today the police will come to take you to Rome.” I was shocked beyond expression.

Rome, January 31, 1991 Ex Pastificio Pantanella occupied by hundreds of Asian immigrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Police evacuate the Pantanella.

The good Samaritan didn’t only deliver the unexpected message, but he pulled out from his pocket a number of notes and said to me: “I don’t want my colleagues to see me giving you money, buy some food to eat at the airport.” I didn’t take the money. I told him: “This important information you have given to me has taken all the hunger away, thank you.” He walked away with his money.

On the fourth day, the police came, just as the officer told me and took me in a police car to the city, Rome, and left me there to fight for my survival. Without anywhere to sleep, I passed all my nights at the Central Train Station. Among other Africans, we watched a big television screen during the day to forget our misery, then in the night, I go to sleep at my hiding place. The police and the workers at the train station never discovered the place I slept.

After some time, I discovered places where I could eat every day without paying for food. I could take my bath and take some clothes. One of such places was at ‘Via Dandolo.’ Daniela, the head of the Caritas (Charity) at Via Dandolo, was a very good woman, but one of her female workers was a very bad woman. A thief. Since we had no address, our letters passed through the Caritas at Via Dandola and this woman took the opportunity to steal money from our letters.

I caught her twice, so I wasn’t surprised when I lost the 10 pounds a friend sent me from England, but I didn’t tell Daniela about it. Through the Caritas, I had my initial lessons and attended classes to learn the Italian. I was one of the best immigrants who could write and speak the language fluently, yet my life was miserable because I was still sleeping at the train station.

In Rome, I was robbed, admitted and operated at a hospital, but the nurse refused to touch me, because of my color, thus; every morning when on duty, she calls someone to attend to me, but she had time for every Italian patient at the hospital. I was once sitting in the hospital’s garden after the operation, when an Italian old man, one of the patients came close to me, looked at my face and said to me: “Marocchino motaccizoa.” – an insult, after mistakenly taken me as a Moroccan. I didn’t say a word.

Then all of a sudden, as if it was announced on the radio, all the immigrants in Rome, without accommodation, discovered an abandoned Pasta factory called ‘Pantanella.’ Pantanella is notoriously known for all criminal activities, including drug peddling and crime, similar to drug cartel zones of Mexico. One needs strength, courage, heart and braveness to survive at that place. Italians think they are brave, but many of them dare to pass Via Casilina, the street Pantanella is located in the night.

That was the place I lived and worked as a toilet cleaner for thousands of immigrants, using six containers as toilets, to raise money to feed. I was employed by the Muslim head at the place. It’s terrible and frightening to live at Pantenella. It wasn’t a prison, but the place, I think was tough like Alcatraz, because of the criminal activities many illegal immigrants engaged in feeding.

The abandoned factory accommodated both soft and hardened criminals from various countries, including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Africa etc. I lived in Pantanella for four months, and the Italian government tired of the crimes going on in that abandoned Pasta factory ejected all the foreigners.

But the Italian government did something great for the African immigrants. Something we weren’t expecting. The government paid for two weeks stay in a hotel for all the Africans, with the ultimatum that before the two weeks expired, we should find a place on our own to live.

Through a very good sympathetic woman called Nana, (she died in Rome a few years ago) I got a job as a houseboy to serve one journalist called Claudio Lavazza, working at television station TG2, belonging to the former Italian Prime Minister, Sylvio Berlusconi. He provided me accommodation and paid me well. Besides, he gave me the new version of Fiat Cinque Cento (500) to drive. It may be likely that I was the first black man in the entire Italy to drive the new Fiat Cinque Cento when it freshly came out. I met other journalist friends of Claudio, including Michele Cucuzza.

After three years, I said goodbye to Rome and returned to Africa. I married and returned to Europe once again but this time choosing Amsterdam. ‘Overseas Chronicle: The Rome and Amsterdam Experience’ is a book once started you’ll find it hard to put away, because of the shocking intriguing stories in the book. Find out more of what happened to me in Rome and later in Holland, which led me to detention in Amsterdam.

The Wonders Of Avocado Pear For The Health

AvocadoSliced Avocado pear: Original article published in AWESOME tips.

You’ve probably seen avocados being touted as a heart-healthy super-food in recent years. Realistically, the truth isn’t too far off from the hype. The next time youre grabbing that burrito or turkey sandwich, you might want to consider adding a healthy dollop of guacamole. Here are four reasons that you should consider eating a little bit of avocado each day.

1. You may reduce your risk of heart disease.

Heart disease is the number 1 killer in the United States, affecting nearly 27 million adults, so it only makes sense that we would want to protect ourselves by being more health-conscious in our dietary choices. Avocados have been shown to positively benefit our cardiovascular system in a number of ways due to its low saturated fat and high unsaturated fat content (predominantly the monounsaturated fat (MUFA) variety). Consuming excess saturated fat (>10% of total calories) may raise your LDL and HDL cholesterol and triglycerides. On the contrary, consuming adequate unsaturated fat in your diet may help lower LDL-cholesterol (bad cholesterol), maintain HDL-cholesterol (good cholesterol) and potentially improve your insulin sensitivity.

In addition its nutritious fat content, avocados also contain a potent mix of nutrients (e.g., potassium and lutein), including plenty of antioxidants such as carotenoids, callexanthophylls and phenols. These compounds can help prevent inflammation and oxidative stress in the blood vessels while facilitating improved blood flow.

2. You may have an easier time maintaining your weight

Eating fat to lose fat; who would have thought? Avocados can help with weight-loss and maintaining a healthy BMI by promoting a feeling of satiety. A recent study showed that including avocado in meals helped extend feelings of fullness and reduced the desire to overindulge. The belly-filling properties of avocados is aided by their high fiber content, about 14g per fruit on average. In addition, higher avocado consumption has been associated with smaller waistlines and lower BMIs in observational studies. Lastly, some research has even shown that weight-loss diets higher in MUFA, like the kind avocados are packed with, may prove healthier for your heart than low-fat weight-loss diets.

3. You might reduce your risk of cancer

Avocados provide us with numerous phytochemicals that may help prevent cancer, including the previously discussed xanthophylls and phenols. A protein compound called glutathione, along with the xanthophyll lutein (both found in avocados), have been associated with decreased rates of oral cancer. Preliminary data also show promising results for avocados potential role in reducing risk of both breast and prostate cancers. Additionally, preliminary studies demonstrate that a specific type of fav derived from avocados is able to exert anti-cancer effects on acute myeloid leukemia cells. Together, these studies show that further research needs to be conducted to draw more conclusive results.

4. You will protect your skin and eyes well into old age

As it turns out, avocado carotenoids do quite a number of things for our body. Both lutein and another compound found in avocados called zeaxanthin can slow age-related ocular decline and prevent vision dysfunction. In addition, these same two nutrients also act as buffers against oxidative UV damage, keeping our skin smooth and healthy. The bio-availability (ease of absorption by our body) of carotenoids from avocados compared to many other fruits and vegetables makes eating avocados every day a sensible choice.

African Politics Is Like A Man Answering Nature’s Call Without Toilet Paper

MerkelGerman’s Angela Merkel and Ghana’s Nana Akofo-Addo: Do African politicians know how European and American politicians underestimate them?

Have you ever been to the toilet and after easing yourself you found out that you have no toilet paper in the roll set? The lost hope, uncertainty, and hopelessness, not knowing exactly what to do, is exactly the situation of Africans under corrupt and greedy politicians in Africa.

My heart aches when I see Africans queuing in those hot temperatures to cast their votes for corrupt, greedy and useless politicians. For a very long time, Africa has been a caricature, a puppet and a laughing stock in the eyes of Europeans. You will know the disrespect Europeans and Americans give to Africa when you live in Europe, you will never know that when you live in Africa.

Africans are considered sub-human beings or the least important people on this planet. The reason  Europeans invaded the continent. After decades of slavery, suffering, and colonization, African leaders are still considered stupid by Europe and America, because they still repeat the same mistakes they did.

How many countries make Africa? If out of all the head of states in Africa, only South Africa’s Thabo Mbeki; Nelson Mandela and Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe, are the only presidents to tell Europe and America that Aids and Ebola are medical crimes against Africa, what are the rest of African head of states doing or saying?

There is no continent which has suffered more than Africa, yet African leaders don’t take the suffering masses into consideration to improve the standard of living because all that they are interested is to steal from the government coffers to Switzerland.

Let’s assume Africans can’t read, so we don’t know that Aids and Ebola are medical crimes, but help has come close to us when a European scientist, Johan Van Dongen, after four decades of research revealed the diseases weren’ natural. They were manufactured in the laboratory for bio-warfare purpose and tested on Africans, yet African leaders still haven’t reacted. Is that stupidity or intelligence.

Professor Johan Van Dongen could have remained silence like other scientists, after discovering that Aids and Ebola were medical crimes against Africa, but because of the love he has for the continent, he published his findings, which cost him dearly. He lost his job as a university lecturer because the government(Holland) was angry with him. How would the world view African leaders? Stupid or intelligent?

African leaders attend conferences and seminars overseas. They feel so fortunate and happy to take pictures with advanced countries leaders, but they don’t feel that way. They feel they are standing with morons, incompetent and corrupt politicians, that years after colonization can’t help fellow Africans or develop their countries.

In Ghana, there is a proverb which says, “If one washes his hands well, he will end up eating with the king on the same dining table.” If African leaders want to be respected by the outside world, they should show a little intelligence and patriotism, because they have disappointed Africans for too long.

Why Many Are Giving Up Blogging?

King 5The significant aim of every blogger, especially writers, is to win the heart of readers to visit their blogs. This the way to tell your visitors what you do. After all the hard work, at the end of the day, only between ten to twenty readers visit the writer’s blog. This is very frustrating indeed.

There are hundreds of articles online, giving instructions on how to attract more traffic to your site. Like many others, I have  tried a lot of them without success.

Sometimes, you might feel that your articles are boring or not inspiring, but that’s not the problem. The reason many readers aren’t visiting your blog is: You are posting an article which has already been written by hundreds of writers. Who is interested to read an article written by hundreds of writers over the same subject?

A successful blog has nothing to do with the number of your followers. You can get over million followers, yet still your blog can’t be progressing or successful, because of lack of readers. For example, it is better for any blogger to get at least between 50 – 100 readers per day, than having thousands of followers.

How many of your followers have the time to read what you write? This is the question you need to take into consideration when blogging, in order to create irresistible articles to draw readers’ attention.

Before writing any article ‘Google’ the subject and find out first how many articles are online over the same subject. If there are hundreds of similar articles online, please don’t waste your time to write or post it, but if you still want to write that particular subject, then let it be entirely different from previous published articles.

Investigative articles  are very interesting, always attracting readers, but if you are scared to publish an article over someone, organisation etc; you will never be successful as a blogger, unless you are writing for fun. Fear is a psychological disease that holds success, thus; you’re preventing your success.

I publish articles the media or bloggers dare to publish. Because that’s what many readers want to read. They want something, different, truthful, scandalous and interesting. This is the secret leading to the success of my blog, without enough followers and without paying a cent for any promotion.

If you are an effective and experienced blogger, you can see that traffic on Saturdays and Sundays is very low, yet good articles can easily increase the rate of traffic significantly on both Saturdays and Sundays. You may not know the impact of your articles on society, so never quit. Write interesting articles to be in the race.

Poetry Enriches The Human Soul, As It Nurtures Love

rainbowBy Walter William Safar

Poetry enriches the human soul, as it nurtures love, compassion, freedom and faith in people. I don’t know much about victories, but I am sure of one thing, that compassion is a victory of the human spirit. Yes, I consider myself to be lucky to share my poetry with everyone regardless of race or religion, because anyone’s tears are the same color, as well as an honest smile.

There is hope in me that you shall become my brothers in art, in terms of literature and compassion. Let it be the beginning of a wonderful friendship that shall be linked through small mercies. As William Wordsworth put it beautifully: “The best portion of a good man’s life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love.”

(Those who divide poets into amateurs and professionals are wrong, because poetry is not a profession, but a state of mind-state of soul… Each verse that brings tears to someone’s eyes remains in memory, and the wise Jean Paul said: Our memories are the only paradise from which we can never be expelled.)

A man’s heart is small, but it is surrounded by the immensity of its soul. Sometimes our words may appear silent, but they are certainly heading for infinity.

THE LAND BEYOND THE RAINBOW

You are calling me, road of dreams,
To a land beyond the rainbow,
In which diversity is the harmony of living,
In which hatred is losing the battle against love,
In which a strong spirit is virtue instead of weakness;

You are calling me, road of dreams,
To where reality is conceived from thousands,
Tens of thousands of dreams,
Dreams that feed the soul,
Dreams that nurture the hearts of
Dreamers from all over the world;

You are calling me, road of dreams,
To a wonderful land of dreamers,
But I am tired,
My mornings are different now,
Full of extinguished sparks,
And the scents of weary nights
That lay beside you now,
Just like night birds,
Your weary wanderers,
Whose passion bled
Into life’s inexhaustible well.
