J.N.K. Savage:Tracing The Works Of A Great Journalist Behind Computer Age

SAV 6Journalist/Documentary film Producer and Director Justin N.K. Savage and wife Nancy-Elizabeth Savage (Nancy-Elizabeth Hudson) You looking at my mother and father.

Justin Nobleman Kodwo Savage was a professional journalist, documentary film producer and director, born at Cape Coast, in the central region of Ghana in 1932. While in active service, he passed away on January 29, 1976.

At Guinea Press, now ‘The Ghanaian Times’ during the Kwame Nkrumah era, Mr. Savage travelled extensively across the globe, whenever the president leaves the country to participate in world affairs.

At home, Ghanaians were able to receive first-hand information from Mr. Savage, over Nkrumah’s trip overseas, appearing in ‘The Evening News,’ newspaper dominated by party news, CPP, and adulation of Nkrumah.

At Guinea Press, Justin Savage had the opportunity to make further studies in journalism in London, England, but Nkrumah’s interest in communism took him off Ghana soil to many Eastern European countries including Poland, Czechoslovakia etc, and Russia.

In the sixties, the president of the then Czechoslovakia invited African journalists to his country. Justin Savage heads the African journalists from Ghana, but the Ghanaians presence stole the show, because of the native Kente cloth they put on. Kente exposes the rich tradition and culture of Ghana.

Justin Savage filed his press cuts and combined all his publications which appeared in the newspapers as a magazine, naming it “A Mixture Of Periodicals.” These publications later after his death, became my favourite book, assisting me to gain more writing skills when my interest increased to be a writer.

Darkness fell on Ghana when Nkrumah was overthrown-ed on February 24, 1966, in a coup organized by CIA and local collaborators. Chaos and curfews followed amidst jubilation and sadness. Mr. Savage served Guinea press a year more and he resigned.

He followed a course in technology at the Kumasi Science and Technology, where he studied film production. After his course, he entered into Ghana Broadcasting Corporation as ‘Advisor on film for television.’

He excelled in his profession and had promotions. It wasn’t long when Friedrich Ebert Foundation (West German Television Team) established a television project attached to the Broadcasting House in Ghana.

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung is a German political foundation named after Friedrich Ebert, Germany’s first democratically elected president. Headquartered in Bonn and Berlin, the foundation contributes to social democracy by means of:

Political education in order to reinforce its fundamental values, research and scientific analysis of central policy areas, various forms of public dialogue in order to pave the way for it, scholarship programs for students and Ph.D. candidates, development cooperation aimed at global justice and building bridges of international cooperation for worldwide democracy.

For efficient service and to be familiar with new developments in television production, Mr. Savage was at West German for an intensive course. He returned to the Broadcasting House and was appointed ‘Documentary Film Producer and Director.

At the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, he made a number of documentary films, especially during the exhibition of Ghana and other African products at both the first and second ‘Ghana International Trade Fair,’ in Accra.

Kodwo, the name his co-workers loved to call him, did a number of documentary films, including ‘Ghana At A Glance, Cocoa In Ghana, Backyard Industries and ‘Furnace in a Village’, produced in 1972. I had the opportunity to play a role in ‘Backyard Industries.’

I grew up to see some of his friends such as Mr. Kofi Badu, the Managing Director of Daily Graphic and Mr. Willie Donkor, the Editor of Weekly Spectator, still in the media. In the early nineties, January, I contacted one of my father’s friends called Mr. Ebo Biney, at the Broadcasting House, requesting if he could telecast one of my father’s film on January 29, for remembrance. It came as a shock to me when I learned that all my father’s films got burnt, following a fire which engulfed Ghana Broadcasting Corporation some time ago.

Since then I have been working very hard to see if I can find any of my father’s work online, despite far behind computer age or advanced modern technology. Like winning a lotto, I discovered two. The first is at the website of Len Pole, a Museum Consultant: “Advisor on a film for television, ‘Furnace in a Village’, produced by Kodwo Savage, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, 1972.” – http://www.lenpole.com/I contacted the museum consultant after the discovery of my father’s work on his website. I was delighted when he told a few years ago ‘Furnace in a village’ was shown at Cannes Film Festival.

Then I had a new break through  when I discovered another work at: Selected Bibliography in Communication – jstor by Graham B. Kerr, under the topic- All African governments are committed to development and most wish to …Journalism Quarterly [forthcoming]. ….. SAVAGEJ.N.K. “Ghana Jugend begeistert.- . “Ghana inspires youth.”

The selected Bibliography in Communication is a book published by the Canadian Association of African Studies. Justin Savage writes:

“We must bridge the gap between leaders and masses, between government and people . . No government tells the people everything, but every government must reach the people so as to tell them what they should be told” – Julius Nyerere

The search for my father’s work isn’t yet over. As time goes on when I discover something new, I will keep on updating this article. I hope readers will enjoy reading it and if any reader has any suggestion to improve it, you are always welcome.

When Europe Was Under Ancient Africans: 700 Years Of Less Known History

Moorish 5The European Society Is A Racist Against The Black Man Because He Reminds Them Of Their Past Ancestors And Rulers

The people of Africa, at least as they are in relation to present history, in the last 1,300 years, say from 700AD to 2015AD, has been under tight house watch, besides the terrible brutality ordained against them. The fear of European against Africans today goes back to the Moorish conquest of the Iberian peninsula in 700AD, and parts of western Europe before and after that period.

Believe it or not, Belgium was largely a black/Moorish country at one time (yes, the books are still there to prove this!). All the other small countries surrounding the region, including France, Holland, England, Germany, etc, were strongholds of powerful Moorish clans, with kings and nobles, prince and princesses!

Black folks weren’t just in Africa but travelled and inhabited all parts of the entire globe.

Europe removed the remnants of it African-ness only about 250 years ago, so, if one is diligent enough, he or she can uncover what have been swept under the rug! Africans were the original foundation of all European royalty that you see there today! Yes, including England and France! This is not hard to find, because, all European families, whether royalty of peasants have a family crest and, this family crest is almost always a black Moorish man!

Of course, just because they don’t see black folks as equal humans or beings, should remind you that, a human, and a human being, are different, and the philosophy and psychology of using these terms are never understood by the public.

The west is ruled by psychological principles, with mirrors and smoke screens. To try and understand it, one has to move away from words, definitions and descriptions. It’s only a compilation of ‘mazes’ for the masses. The leaders and rulers are unconcerned, essentially – because they are not governed by such ideology. It will never convict its fellow members!

Going forward, starting, Africa and her people must delicately and deliberately separate herself from the ideology of the west, just as the Chinese are desperately trying to do now.

Don’t Underestimate Prophecies In The Holy Bible: They Are Not Mere Stories

Anti-Christ forces against Christians

The persecution of Christians has increased in many countries including China

We are in an era many feel embarrassed or overpowered by shyness to speak about the Holy Bible. Once people begin to talk about the scriptures, they are seen by non-believers as those losing their mind. To be a Christian is not by force and it is not by force either for a Christian to convert to Islam. You can be an atheist, no one cares, but woe unto the atheist who tries to take God’s children and believers to the path of destruction. And woe unto Muslims that kill Christians and say they are doing it for Allah because true God has no pleasure in wickedness.

The reason when Jesus sent out his twelve disciples he told “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.” Many ignore the prophecies in the Bible, because they are spiritually blind and deaf, to hear and see the fulfillment of the scriptures taking  place around the world today.

Jesus said, “They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” Luke 5: 53.

“Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.” Matthew 10:21-23.

Those who have eyes can clearly see and those who have ears, can clearly hear that all the prophesies in the Bible are gradually taking place. Christians are now being slaughtered like cows and those responsible say they are doing it for Allah, because ‘Allahu Akbar’-God is great. Give me a break, if the God you are worshiping is great, let that great God take his own actions. No one fights or kills for a great God, but only a weak God.

Domestic violence erupting daily as daughters fight against mothers and  sons against fathers. There is no peace because everyone thinks he is right to do whatever is bad. The greed for money has increased violence and crime at every corner of the globe. My father’s house of worship has become the den of thieves or drinking pubs, as churches are being converted to drinking place. Husband kills wife and wife kill husband for life insurance money. Father kills baby and mother kill a baby. What a world of confusion enveloped by spiritual darkness?

Jesus spoke about love 13 times some of these occurrences are parallel scriptures such as someone asking Him what the greatest commandment of all. He preached some 190 times on hell, repentance, and judgment. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. Featured Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

Article originally posted at publishersweekly.com

Avery Books, a Penguin Random House nonfiction imprint focused on wellness and health, has acquired North American rights to The Book of Joy: Finding Enduring Happiness In an Uncertain World, a book that will be produced by the Dalai Lama and South African archbishop Desmond Tutu, in collaboration with Doug Abrams, who will conduct interviews and co-write the book.

U.S. rights were acquired by Avery editor-in-chief Caroline Sutton in a deal brokered by Abrams of Idea Architects; the Mary Clemmey Literacy Agency sold U.K. and Commonwealth rights to Jocasta Hamilton at Hutchinson/Cornerstone/Penguin Random House.

The production of the book will feature an historic meeting between the two men, April 20-24, in Dharamsala, India that will also mark the Dalai Lama’s 80th birthday and allow the two spiritual leaders to spend a week sharing their perspectives on the topic of joy. Indeed, in order to share this experience more broadly with the rest of the world, the two leaders will use their Facebook pages to let readers around the globe ask questions about the path to joy and a meaningful life.
