The 5 Biggest Regrets People Have Before They Die

Want to hear the strangest thing on earth? Death is perhaps the most constructive fact of our existence. Being aware of death throughout your life can beget the healthiest attitude: one of perspective.

Countless people throughout history knew this too. The ancient Greeks used to “practice death every day,” and the Toltecs would use death as “fuel to live and to love.” The constant reminder ensured they would live more boldly, more kindly, and with less fear.

The Good News About Death

Here’s how the morbid subject can actually benefit us: Our limited days on earth are the ultimate impetus to live with less fear and more intention.

The majority of the time, many of us live as if there will be no end to our days. We stay in unfulfilling careers. We remain in unhappy relationships. We will travel the world “one day.” We fail to tell people how much they matter to us. We hide our real truth, gifts, or talents from the world because we are scared of being judged and criticized.

Losing a parent when I was young made this much more real for me. I felt blessed to come to the realization of how precarious and precious life is while still in my younger years. But you don’t need a loss early in your life to take advantage of the wisdom that awaits you. Learn from people who know.

One of my favorite books is Bronnie Ware’s international bestseller The Top Five Regrets of the Dying. Ware was a hospice nurse in Australia for several years and cared for patients in the last few weeks of their lives. She writes with incredible clarity how similar regrets surfaced again and again.

Surprise, surprise: There was no mention of insufficient status; undelivered revenge; or sadness over not being the thinnest, prettiest, or most famous. These were the most common regrets. (Numbers one and five could make me weep.)

The 5 Most Common Regrets

I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

“This was the most common regret of all,” Ware writes. “When people realize that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honored even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.”

I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.

“All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.”

I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.

“Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.”

I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

“Often they would not truly realize the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks, and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved.”

I wish that I had let myself be happier.

“This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realize until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called ‘comfort’ of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content.”

Can We Rise Above Negative Attitudes And Hurtful Feelings?

Have faith and depend on Jesus

People pray during a mass held outside the public school where 12 children were killed by a gunman last week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In the community, your neighbour can be your enemy, your brother can be your enemy and your sister can be your enemy. When two people have a difference, both often become angry. The reason we see sons rise against fathers, daughters against mothers, brother against brother and sister against sister.

Some of the painful and hurtful things in life, is when you don’t know where you went wrong, or the mistake you did, but someone hates you. You try to reason with the person, making efforts to settle, but since he has bad intentions, he isn’t prepared to make peace with you. Perhaps you have experienced a similar situation.

There are people who take other people’s quiet nature, submissiveness, and humbleness, as stupid or foolishness. Before you start hating someone, probably your close friend or relative, sit down with him, face to face, to let him or her know what the problem is. You can’t just begin calling the person a liar, fool and going far to tell your brother or sister of stealing your money to wed his wife or her husband, by writing letters.

Some people like to live a simple life, even though they can afford everything, including a car, yet he or she prefers to use a bicycle to work. That doesn’t mean that the person is stupid or has failed in life. If you live with pride and arrogance and wants to advertise your wealth, go on, because not everyone is interested in what you do.

People who live with pride feel very intelligent in their own eyes. When they are talking to you, they try to make you understand or believe they are the most intelligent people on earth. But the more you remain silent, to listen or read whatever they write, the more you see how stupid and foolish they are. Even the ten foolish virgins are all intelligent.

Most people often never think of how pride can be destructive. There was once a man who lives in Amsterdam. He was very famous, because of the way he lives and boastful nature. Anytime he travels to Africa, he demolishes part of the house he was building, suggesting to the builders to build a modern house, even though the plan of the house they were following was a modern plan. He was never satisfied with any modern house since he changes his mind frequently anytime he sees a beautiful house.

Unfortunately, he was involved in a serious crime. After serving his prison sentence, he was deported to Africa. He now lives in an uncompleted building for over a decade. As human beings, we need to be careful of the words that come from our mouth. There are words once spoken, they will come back to hurt or haunt you. You can’t reject something, then later want it back. You can’t take your brother to court when he asked you to sit down with him to solve the problem amicably.

Your uncontrollable anger and pride, are driving you to execute devilish plans against your brother, but nothing is working. That brother you are fighting against is using his precious time, seeking the intervention of Jesus, to give him the patience to endure the pain and temptations he is going through. And it works. Once you read your Bible each day or go to church to worship each Sunday, you learn certain practical principles, which will help you to overcome the hardest obstacles ahead of you.

I posted this article to encourage everyone facing any difficulties in life, to trust and believe in God. Try Jah’s love when everything fails. Seek the face of Jah in the world’s most widely read book: The Bible. It encourages us to cultivate qualities, such as discernment, love, kindness, insight, and patience. Above all the Bible can help you to promote peace and heal emotional wounds.

FEMALE CIRCUMCISION: Barbarism And Cruelty Against Young Girls

Female circumcision should be abolished

Female circumcision or female genital mutilation involves the cutting of the clitoris of young girls before getting married. This savage and barbarous acts are dominant in Islamic countries.

Female circumcision or female genital mutilation involves the cutting of the clitoris of young girls before getting married. This savage and barbarous acts are dominant in Islamic countries.

The Bible speaks about circumcision, but only for a male child. “And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.” Genesis 21:4 indicates that. To this day, many Christians around the world circumcised male children, but there is nowhere written in the Bible that female should be circumcised.

The question is ‘Where does female circumcision come from and what’s the significance behind this practice which has caused a health hazard to thousands of girls in countries mostly practiced? Every religion has its dos and doesn’t or built on certain principles but at times some principles or traditions followed by ancestors are meaningless. Female circumcision is one of them.

The idea behind this barbarous act is to “help” the woman to be faithful and stay with only her husband. It’s forbidden for a woman to marry two men or sleep with another man if married. That is the case, but nothing wrong for a man to marry ten women? This is greed than law or principle governing a religion.

Oppression and discrimination against women continue in many parts of the world, including Africa and Asia. Many women have become subject to all kinds of horrible situations, ranging from rape, sexual harassment, physical battering, acid attacks to psychological abuse. Unfortunately, female circumcision is now a threat. Non-sterilized dangerous implements are used daily to mutilate the genitals of women without ceasing, despite all the efforts by some organizations to stop this cruelty.

Scientifically and biologically, the isn’t any medical record indicating that male circumcision poses a health hazard, but hundreds medical reports confirming that female circumcision is a health hazard. This act has no significant health benefits for girls or women, instead, causes severe bleeding and injury to female genital organs. Many women, who have had severe complications after circumcision, end up in wheelchairs, crippled or barren. This cruelty also steals away their feeling and orgasm.

It is estimated that about 140 million girls and women worldwide are currently living with disastrous effects of female circumcision. Horrific procedures have severely traumatized and psychologically affected thousands of women. Female circumcision is practiced in 26 countries across Africa. In the Republic of Sierra Leone, an ethnic group called “The Bondo Society” still carries this outdated tradition. Gambia launched a three-year program aimed to abolish Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

The project captioned “Eradication harmful traditional practices through rights education” started from to 2010 to 2012. It will be very wise on health grounds when other countries practicing this inhuman act follow. FMG is a crime. The World Health Organization is against it. The world should, therefore, fight against this wicked act. It’s totally inhuman. Cases of female circumcision should be considered as a crime against women.
