You’ve Got The Power To Liberate Yourself From Depression

optimized-dep-6

Suicide is not a solution to free yourself from the world’s problems

Everyone has wonderful hopes, dreams, and expectations of their future, but many times what we are looking for never come our way. Some of us have been robbed of our joy through the loss of a loved one and many feel lonely and hopeless when they find themselves in abusive homes and domestic violence.

In such a troubled world, it’s very easy to see the ailments of the society taking its toll on people. The high rate of unemployment and divorce, are also some of the causes leading to depression. It’s not surprised that psychologists have confirmed that the ailments of people can be traced from the homes and environment they were raised.

We understand that as human beings, we are bound to face difficulties in our lives, the important question is: How do we handle those problems we experience? According to World Federation for Mental Health, depression is a significant contributor to the global burden of disease and affects people in all communities across the world.

Today, depression is estimated to affect 350 million people. The World Mental Health Survey conducted in 17 countries found that on average about 1 in 20 people reported having an episode of depression. But do you know that you have the power to overcome loneliness and depression?

Why some people easily succumbed to depression and others able to resist? The happy people we often meet on the street are not super humans. They are only happy because experience in life has taught them that happiness is yourself. Someone can make you unhappy, prevent your success, or do everything to hurt you, but so long as you are a living being, you have the power, desire, inspiration or everything it takes to liberate yourself from that misery, loneliness or depression.

Fear, anxiety, depression and loneliness can easily be prevented than you know. Instead of living on drugs and alcohol, which rather increase your psychological problems, there are some recommended steps which can keep one far from loneliness and depression. Reading interesting books as a hobby can capture your imagination to avoid depression.

If you love to stay at home, please cultivate the habit of taking a walk through the gardens, doing window shopping, joining social clubs. Going to the gym to exercise once or twice a week doesn’t only keep you fit but also psychologically healthy. You may have a hidden talent but you don’t know. Find out what you are very good at, follow it and start blogging to create your happiness.

Another important factor is financial matters, which often wear people down psychologically. When facing financial problems, you need a healthy mind to find your way out not a depressed mind.  I can’t do it, I’m not sure I can succeed, there is nothing left for me in life, are all ‘symptoms’ of depression. Take away the shackle off your body and free mind from the psychological chain damaging your health.

Could Africa Be The Toughest Continent In The World?

LIES 3Told over and over again are also called the media.

Journalism is the activity of news gathering, assessing, creating, and presenting the information to the general public. That’s the simplest way I can define this profession. But there is more involved in this profession. They are dishonesty, hypocrisy and blatant lies, which have caused lost of trust of viewers and readers.

The European and American media will let you understand that Africa is the most dangerous continent in the world, yet violence and the high rate of  crime in America exceed the crime rate in Africa. How many Africans keep pistol or guns in their homes, like Americans? Africa needs an answer.

The Western and America media will let you understand that Africa is a continent that lacks education, affected by corruption, poverty and plagued by diseases, such as malaria, Ebola, Aids, Lassa fever and other deadly diseases. But the teenage pregnancy threatening Europe, especially Britain alone, is overwhelming. Thus, if lack of education is one of the causes of teenage pregnancy, then are African teenagers more intelligent than British teenagers?

SLAVERY AND MEDICAL CRIMES

Throughout Europe and America, the only definition a child knows about Africa is: ‘A poor continent.’ But for ages, there is no European and American journalist intelligent enough to ask: How are we going to cope up, handle or survive, if the calamities which had fallen on Africa in the past and present fall on us? In this way we need to learn from Africa how we can survive in times of adversity. Americans were scared to death when a Liberian was diagnosed with Ebola on American soil, while Africa is painstakingly dealing with this medical crime in West Africa with courage.

The Africa continent has suffered slavery and all kinds of terrorism and persecutions during the colonial era, shaping the pattern of  lives of its citizens, both psychologically and physically, making Africans one of the strongest and toughest creatures living on the planet today. On National Geography are documentary films showing how to survive when lost in the desert and mountains, but Africans already live on the desert and in mountains.

In some villages in Africa, many haven’t seen electricity before, yet they are happy and each day, they follow their normal activities. Which European or American can live a normal life without electricity in his or her entire life? Endurance, pain and experience have structured the African continent in a way that they could stand the hardest conditions. This is the reason Africa is still standing on its feet despite every evil thing they’ve experienced in the hands of Europeans and Americans.

Europe and America knew long time ago, the incredible strength of Africa, but they are scared and find it embarrassing and a sort of disgrace to learn how Africans survive on that harsh continent. Instead they planned to cause confusion, depopulate and destroy the continent to make its citizens unhealthy.

SUICIDE RATE IN EUROPE AND AMERICA

Despite all the problems that Africans face daily, only few commit suicide. This should be something to inspire Europe and America to find out: How and why only few people take their lives in Africa, so that we could learn something from them? Europe and America politicians and the media will never do that, instead they always try to find a way to inflict pain and destruction against Africans.

Below is the ‘World Suicide Rate’ per country published by The Washington Post.

Suicide rates per 100,000 people
Austria 13.8
Belgium 18.4
Britain 6
Canada 10.2
Czech Republic 12.7
Denmark 11.3
Finland 16.5
France 14.6
Germany 10.3
Greece 2.9
Hungary 21.0
Iceland 10.4
Italy 5.5
Japan 19.4
Luxembourg 9.5
Mexico 4.4
Netherlands 7.9
New Zealand 11.9
Norway 10.9
Poland 13.8
Portugal 8.7
Slovak Republic 10.9
South Korea 24.7
Spain 6.3
Sweden 11.1
United States 10.1
 Notes: Data is for 2005.
Readers you can see that there is no African country mentioned in this suicide list. It is time for the European and America media to respect Africa, and stop underestimating the continent. Africa may not have powerful weapons and ammunition like Europe and America, Africa may be poorer than Europe and America, Africa may have weak and fragile health-care systems, yet Africans are hundred percent physically and psychologically strong than Europeans and Americans. The world should know this, because the bias European and American media won’t tell you.

Tourism: Step Into The Paradise Taste Of Tropical Fruits In Ghana

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Home sweet home: Joel Savage enjoys the sweet juicy water of fresh coconut.

The axiom, “All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy” might have originally been conceived by a domestic idealist, who knows the truth. Working hard without a break can affect your health. The impact can take its toll on you.

This is the reason I decided to visit my mother at the age of 80, in Ghana, after five years. Seeing her grey hair, but strong and healthy, boosted my happiness. In my daily prayers I always ask God to give her long life, to enjoy her fruits of labour, and it seems He has answered my prayers.

My mother after losing her husband at the age of 44, in 1976, (The Writer Died) https://goo.gl/hLBqj4, left with eight children, without any support, took the responsibility alone to make sure that we were fed, clothed, accommodated and educated.

In Ghana, I visited many places including the Cape Coast castle, in the central region of Ghana and some villages, such as ‘Akatechiwa’ which has intriguing story leading to the village’s name. I will be sharing all the interesting articles pertaining my visit with you very soon on social media.

Apart from my adventure and exploration, I enjoyed the fresh tropical fruits, such as coconut, mango, sweet apple etc. Many in foreign countries, such as Europeans and Americans may have the experience of tasting juicy canned tropical fruits, but nothing compares to the original fresh taste of tropical fruits taken moments from the trees in Ghana or Africa generally.

Many Europeans and Americans yearly make a trip to Ghana to explore its ancient castles and forts and some have settled finally in the country, saying good bye to Europe and America. Don’t let the foreign media deceive you. Be part of those visiting Ghana.

The Coconut tree: I know that there are thousands of readers interested in non-fiction genre of books, thus; one of my goals is to share my non-fiction books through diversity of culture. My utterly and compelling collections are destined to capture the reader’s attention and interest, to learn about other people’s culture and heritage.

My books are in the categories of travel, immigration, health and entertainment. The personal account of the stories reflect on the places I visited in Africa, such as Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Togo, Benin and Gambia. And in Europe, it’s about life in Barcelona, Spain, Aahus, Denmark, England, Amsterdam, Holland, Rome, Italy and Antwerp, Belgium.

The African stories act like a guide to European and Americans tourists. The books will teach you how to avoid being a victim to thieves, armed robbers and immigration crooks, that prey on nationals and foreigners, while the Europeans stories teach Africans how to survive in Europe, without papers and crime.

The Devil Among Us In The Likely Of Men

handsUnited we stand, divided we fall.

Racial discrimination, violence and crime, are some of the problems that have divided, caused havoc and brought unrest in our society today, yet many don’t learn  from the painful experience, destruction and the mistakes they do.

No body wants to be called a racist. “The black man say it’s the white man, The white man say it’s the black man, Indians say it’s the coloureds, Coloureds say it’s everyone…….” Sings Lucky Dube, the great South African reggae legend.

In one of the shops in Antwerp, an African dog lover, went to buy a dog’s chain. After payment, as soon as he stepped outside, a white man entering the same shop, saw him with the chain. He asked the African if he is going to use the chain on his neck. What a provocation?  I quickly stepped in to hold the angry African, when the scene nearly turned to bloodshed.

That is how life goes sometimes. The poor African is not looking for trouble but the devil is knocking on his door to give him one. The white man knows very well that such question could bring unexpected problems, yet he ignored and did what his heart wants. And if you called him a racist, he will tell you “I’m not.”

At the just concluded Flemish Journalist Association end of year’s press conference on December 5, 2015, in Antwerp, I witnessed something more shocking. Among all the Belgian journalists, were only two Africans. A white male came to the other African, a radio journalist and asked him if he knows what monkeys eat.

“I don’t know.” He answered. “Then follow me.” Said the Belgian journalist. The radio journalist followed him, without knowing whether it was a joke, game or racial discrimination.

To his utmost surpise, he was taken to table with a bowl of fruits, including banana. He just smiled and left the Belgian journalist standing by the table. Why should something like that happen among a group of journalists in the same association? This is an insult not intelligence.

Many times the black man is seen as a criminal in the society, because of the colour of his skin, but crime doesn’t know colour. Both black and white commit crime. If you hate someone bcause of his colour, please just leave him alone. Don’t try to stir racial violence, because when trouble erupts, it affects everyone including children, our business and the society.

Can Home Cooking Build A Happy Marriage?

Cooking 4

Falling in love is a wonderful and magical experience between two people. The chemistry is strange and sometimes very complicated. The experience differs in many ways but the commonest are happiness, restlessness and strong emotions. However; falling in love doesn’t always guarantee a successful marriage or living together. Frankly speaking, according to statistics many are getting divorce more than getting together.

To build and support successful marriage or relationships, many partners read books written as a guide to happy marriage. Despite hundreds of books counseling couples, lovers are constantly in pain, emotionally and psychologically, affected by painful love affairs. The causes of divorces or separations vary, lack of attention, sex, cheating, quarrels, financial matters and others. However; few things many never thought of as destroyer of marriages is the lack of cooking at home and lack of prevention of early sex in teenage relationship.

Many couples friendship began at school as teenagers before they settled. In principle, it is always good for people to study and know each other very well, before entering into relations or love affairs. But on moral issues entering into relationships as teenagers isn’t a wise thing to do. Children as young as thirteen and fourteen indulged in caressing and kissing. This is seen as normal in advanced countries but in Africa, it is not permitted.

Most of these early relationships end up in separate ways or settling together. When they finally get married, the love isn’t strong as before. That’s where the problems begin. In this case, the marriage doesn’t go far. Why? The reason is simple and logical. Both have seen their nakedness too much as teenagers to the extent that they no longer value their precious bodies as adults. No happiness and the essence of enjoying a happy relationship is completely ruined.

Here the dignity and the worthiness of the woman have been neglected and abused by the man. It is always the man that causes the breakup because he wants something new. Many start to cheat and stayed late at work in illicit love affairs. A woman or man may find the real happiness in life, marriage, living together or in relationships, when they enter into love affairs as adults than as teenagers.

Any man or woman who doesn’t know how to cook before getting into a relationship or marriage may not fully enjoy the relationship. There is always a guarantee for a happy marriage when one of the partners knows how to cook but if both can’t cook means the marriage have a bleak future. Imagine a family depending always on fast food or tin foods. How would a husband feel after a day’s hard work, comes home to sit behind the dining table and be served with can spaghetti, with that marshy tomato sauce? Many enjoy that but that’s health hazard.

A man facing such situation may never be happy. Some may speak against it but many hide the way they feel when upset. Since he can’t live with that any longer he starts to seek his interest in other places. That’s where the cheating starts. If the one he is seeing can’t provide him those delicious meals he is missing from his previous partner, the relationship automatically comes to an end.

It is therefore very essential for both men and women to learn or know how to cook before getting into a relationship or marriage. Getting familiar with cooking isn’t a difficult issue. There are thousands of books and adult schools for cooking. Time factor is always an issue. Many may not have the time to go to a cooking school after work. Here a cooking book is very useful.

Just follow the instructions on how to cook and next thing is the delicious meal on the dining table. You may not be perfect at your first attempt but remember practice makes man perfect. Besides, cultivating the habit of cooking at home saves a lot of money. I am happily married for the past twenty years. When my wife is busy at work, I do the cooking for the children. This is the only way to share the secrets of why our marriage is stronger than ever. I am a very good cook apart from my writing career.

Exploring Slave Dungeons At Cape Coast Castle

castle 2

Tourists exploring a slave dungeon at the Cape Coast castle

The mere mention of slavery brings bad memories, as it harboured unimaginable evil act, as thousands of Africans were captured under inhuman circumstances into overcrowded dungeons and transported across the Atlantic to the New World. Even though slavery is long abolished, the African still bears the psychological scars, as he fights to regain his lost identity and respect among mankind on the surface of the earth today.

The slave trade in Ghana mainly took place at coastal towns, but I wish to write about Cape Coast, my country of birth, which was the center of the British slave trade for almost 150 years. Cape Coast is located in the central region of Ghana. It was the capital of Gold Coast between 1700 until 1877 when the capital was shifted to Accra. Ghana replaced Gold Coast when the country achieved its independence in 1957.

Echoes of sad music in the air can be heard from Cape Coast, attracting thousands of tourists including African-Americans and other Africans in the Diaspora to visit the place, where their ancestors were packed like a sardine into ships for slavery. There is a proverb in Ghana which says “Man doesn’t cry.” I’m beginning to question this proverb if it has any elements of truth because any African in the Diaspora who visits Cape Coast castle can’t hold back his tears.

The psychological effect and emotions over Cape Coast Castle, which still has the remnants of the  slave trade, are unbearable. President Obama, wife, Michelle and children can’t forget the experience of touring the preserved sites. One can’t escape the cold waves which go through the spine. Even though many Africans in the Diaspora haven’t been to Ghana to trace their roots or visit Cape Coast, others had. The Pan African Historical Festival, simply called PANAFEST is a cultural event which has brought thousands of African-Americans to visit Cape Coast.

Visiting Cape Coast Castle to understand the pain and suffering endured by the millions of slaves is an important step for African-Americans and other Africans in the Diaspora to be closer to Africa. It is sad to note that many hate to be referred to as Africans, even though history about their origin isn’t a fabricated story. It seems that’s the way to help forget this bitter experience, but there is nothing satisfying than visiting the continent of your origin to discover the reality aspects of a sad journey.

Forts and castles built by Europeans between 1482 and 1786, serving as slave depots are still visible in Ghana. Apart from the Cape Coast Castle, are also Elmina and Christiansburg Castles.  Ghana invites you. Be part of other tourists to visit Cape Coast, to see the male dungeon, female dungeon, remnants and the reality of cruelty of slavery, committed by White Slave Masters.

Bullying: How Can We Protect Our Children From This Aggressive Behaviour?

Bullying 1Every child deserves to be happy at home and at school, but many times that happiness they are looking for eludes them. At school and on play grounds, it’s very common for a child to experience bullying from other boys, because he or she looks different.

Physical bullying, taunts and calling one funny names happen every day at school and after school, without the knowledge of teachers or parents. The reason is many children wouldn’t like to speak out to the authorities or parents, because they are scared to talk about it. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, about 160,000 students in the United States, daily refuse to go to school because of bullying.

A married woman with six children, once told me that in her teens at school, she nearly committed suicide. According to her, she was bullied everyday because of her ginger-coloured hair and many called her ugly girl, because she had freckles on her face. Her story was emotional and sad, as she claimed her own brother was part of her misery. He called her ugly too. Despite her ordeal, she summoned up courage to study psychology at the university. That’s one of the best ways to ignore bullying, but how many children have the strength to stand this psychological torture?

On his way to school, a mother kissed her son, without knowing that’s her last kiss to the son, who is being bullied every day at school without her knowledge, because her child never told her. When the child reached a bridge over a busy street, he jumped to his death. Every newspaper in Belgium published this sad story for the government to do something about it. Today the fight against bully is very active in the country.

Children who intimidate or bully other children enjoy doing that. They never stop until the victim has courage to tell his or her parents or put up resistance. It is very important for parents to ask children often, if they are experiencing problems at school. Talking to your child about school is one of the quickest ways to determine if your child is hiding anything from you, for the parents to take necessary actions.
