On Top Of The World: Review By Joel Savage

Novel

An inspirational and adventurous book, empowered by the values of determination, understanding, and perseverance. Although, the entire book is based on fiction, the experiences, and the lessons continue to live with us every day, as a guide for our own success

Love is strange and complicated. It becomes more complicated when combined with diverse careers and the choices we make. The euphoria can make you feel disorganized and restless and sometimes put one in emotional complex situations.
It’s been three years since Belle walks out of the life of Scrooje but many times she finds herself thinking about him feeling a familiar smile sweeps across her face. That’s something she wants to avoid sometimes but assured herself nothing wrong thinking about ex-lover.At times, things don’t go the way she wants. As the ring girl at her parents’ vow renewal, she stumbles, falls into the grass and lost the rings. That wasn’t the end. As a ballerina, despite being the best in her class, the day of the recital something went wrong as she tumbles down like Humpty Dumpty.

Belle wouldn’t let setbacks be a stumbling block on her chosen path to success. She sees something different in her which motivates her. In the field of music, together with Scrooje and his best friend Marley they rise to success, finding themselves instantly on top of the world.

They enjoyed the best part of life as celebrities. Out of misfortunes come fortune or just greed? Marley dies in a tragic accident and Scrooje uses it as an opportunity to exploit Marley. He sells millions of records and lives a false life by cheating other artists.

The chapter is 28, “Money like Trump, I want that money like Trump. Hey, like I said, it’s only entertainment people, sheds light on a scene that took place during one of the political campaigns of Donald Trump.

My favorite part of the book is at page 166: “Staying up late, reading those books to try and feel what he’d felt and like he’d thought was the reason I’d gotten my first pair of double-wide double thick glasses in the first place. By the time I got to high school, those late night reading binges had instilled a love of books in me.”

‘Top Of The World,’ is an inspirational and adventurous book, empowered by the values of determination, understanding, and perseverance. Although, the entire book is based on fiction, the experiences, and the lessons continue to live with us every day, as a guide for our own success.

How To Promote A Book Without Using Social Media By Barbara Beckwith

Social 3Book promption without Social Media (Article Originally published in BuildBookBuzz)

Many authors think they can’t promote a book without using social media. That’s bad news for the countless who don’t enjoy using social networks or don’t want to learn how to use them effectively. (Are you one of them?)

There’s good news, though! Those who think they can’t promote books without Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or any other social network are wrong. Publishers and authors promoted books successfully long before the advent of social media.

Those of you who want to avoid using social networks can do just that and enjoy success without posts, tweets, shares, or updates. But you can’t do nothing – you have to use other tactics to reach your target audience.

Learn nine non-social media tactics you can use to promote fiction and nonfiction in this week’s article:

Marketing beyond social media

When I asked authors in the Build Book Buzz Facebook group what they’d like to learn about through this blog, several wrote a variation of “marketing beyond social media.”

Easy.

Two of my traditionally published books sold out a combined four press runs without a single tweet, post, update, or share.

With that in mind, here are nine things you can do to promote your book without logging in to a single social media account. They’re in no particular order.

1. Guest blogging

This involves finding blogs that reach your book’s target audience, studying the type of content they use, and contacting the owners to propose that you write an article for the blog that will interest its readers.

In fact, here’s a guest blog post I wrote about guest blogging: “Guest Blogging for Authors is Alive and Well.” Here’s more advice on “How to be a great guest blogger.”

2. Book fairs

Exhibiting at these local and regional events lets you meet and converse with readers, network with other authors in your genre, and learn more about industry developments. If exhibiting doesn’t appeal to you or isn’t in your budget, attend anyway — you can still talk to other attendees, connect with other authors, and so on.

3. Publicity

People often confuse publicity with advertising. Publicity is the free exposure you get when you’re interviewed by or mentioned in the news media. I’m a national award-winnig former publicist, so you’ll find lots of information about how to get publicity on this site.

Typing “publicity” into the search box on the right generates a list of articles, as does searching for “media.”

The “Book Marketing 101″ courses (one each for both fiction and nonfiction) on the training page also teach you how to generate book publicity. You can get the tools you need — templates for pitch letters, creating and practicing memorable sound bites, the messages you share, radio email pitches, and so on — in Build Book Buzz Publicity Forms & Templates.

4. Create a holiday

It’s easy enough to create a holiday and select the annual date for it. But it’s not enough to just pick a date and call it your own. For it to have book marketing value, it has to have a direct link to your book or something in your book (for example, the author of a novel or children’s book telling Raggedy Ann’s “real” story could create Raggedy Ann Day),  and you have to spread the word about the special day you’ve created (publicity is a good option).

Once you’ve got your concept and date, get it listed in Chase’s Calendar of Events. The deadline for the next book is April 15.

If your holiday is quirky, contact the folks at Holiday Insights to get listed on their site.

5. Speaking

Speaking, which is particularly effective for promoting memoirs, has evolved to include more than standing in front of a group and sharing information they’re interested in hearing. Now it includes presenting at virtual (online) conferences and being interviewed on podcasts.

Authors and public speaking: 5 reasons to be an author who speaks” will talk you into speaking to groups about your favorite topic.

6. Email marketing

Social media serves a purpose, but if the social networks you use disappeared tomorrow, what would you be left with?

Nothing.

But you own your email list. Even Mark Zuckerberg can’t take that away from you.

Build a fan base and get to know many of them better by creating an email newsletter that encourages recipients to share information with you. Get an overview of the process in “Building your author e-mail list,” then read, “What should I send to my author e-mail list?

7. Book signings

This is a great tactic for extroverts, especially those who enjoy public speaking, because today’s book signings are about entertainment, not books.

Jane Sutter Brandt explains how she had a blockbuster event in “How to sell out at a book signing without being a celebrity.” Learn what popular young adult author Megan McCafferty does at her book signings to keep people engaged and entertained in “Best selling YA author Megan McCafferty adds unique signature feature to book signings.” Get how-to tips from “Your book signing event tool kit.”

Consider doing yours at a venue that’s related to your book’s topic instead of a bookstore, too.

8. Create an event with other authors

Do this locally at a library or at a function room at a book lover’s conference such as the Dayton Book Expo. Collectively, you can Entertainmentattract a large audience of people who enjoy reading the types of books you write.

9. Meet with a book club

You don’t need social media to find and connect with book clubs. You do need to write the type of book that clubs read, though, and you need to do a few other things, as well (including finding book clubs). Learn how it works in “Authors and book clubs.”

Pick the one option of all of these that appeals to you the most and learn how to do it well. You will see that you enjoy book promotion more — so you’ll probably do more of it. That, in turn, will lead to more success.

Take that, Twitter.

What do you do to promote your book that doesn’t involve social media?

Tourism: Step Into The Paradise Taste Of Tropical Fruits In Ghana

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Home sweet home: Joel Savage enjoys the sweet juicy water of fresh coconut.

The axiom, “All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy” might have originally been conceived by a domestic idealist, who knows the truth. Working hard without a break can affect your health. The impact can take its toll on you.

This is the reason I decided to visit my mother at the age of 80, in Ghana, after five years. Seeing her grey hair, but strong and healthy, boosted my happiness. In my daily prayers I always ask God to give her long life, to enjoy her fruits of labour, and it seems He has answered my prayers.

My mother after losing her husband at the age of 44, in 1976, (The Writer Died) https://goo.gl/hLBqj4, left with eight children, without any support, took the responsibility alone to make sure that we were fed, clothed, accommodated and educated.

In Ghana, I visited many places including the Cape Coast castle, in the central region of Ghana and some villages, such as ‘Akatechiwa’ which has intriguing story leading to the village’s name. I will be sharing all the interesting articles pertaining my visit with you very soon on social media.

Apart from my adventure and exploration, I enjoyed the fresh tropical fruits, such as coconut, mango, sweet apple etc. Many in foreign countries, such as Europeans and Americans may have the experience of tasting juicy canned tropical fruits, but nothing compares to the original fresh taste of tropical fruits taken moments from the trees in Ghana or Africa generally.

Many Europeans and Americans yearly make a trip to Ghana to explore its ancient castles and forts and some have settled finally in the country, saying good bye to Europe and America. Don’t let the foreign media deceive you. Be part of those visiting Ghana.

The Coconut tree: I know that there are thousands of readers interested in non-fiction genre of books, thus; one of my goals is to share my non-fiction books through diversity of culture. My utterly and compelling collections are destined to capture the reader’s attention and interest, to learn about other people’s culture and heritage.

My books are in the categories of travel, immigration, health and entertainment. The personal account of the stories reflect on the places I visited in Africa, such as Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Togo, Benin and Gambia. And in Europe, it’s about life in Barcelona, Spain, Aahus, Denmark, England, Amsterdam, Holland, Rome, Italy and Antwerp, Belgium.

The African stories act like a guide to European and Americans tourists. The books will teach you how to avoid being a victim to thieves, armed robbers and immigration crooks, that prey on nationals and foreigners, while the Europeans stories teach Africans how to survive in Europe, without papers and crime.

Choosing A Wholesome Entertainment For Children

Ban dangerous games on the television

The love for money has encouraged companies to manufacture dangerous games for children

Very often psychologists and psychiatrists trace the cause of our present day ailments to homes.  Homes have straightforward stories to tell. The set up of our homes, immediately convey the message to a visitor the nature and character of those dwelling there and the sort of training or life being acquired from it.

Living in unsafe community, low-quality child care, lack of resources, broken homes, divorces etc; are some of the causes affecting children. Even though entertainment is said to enhance children’s education, it is said to be one of the major factors which affect children’s behavior. What programs are children watching on the television or what kind of games are they playing?

Unsafe, violent and crime games, are yearly produced by ‘Games Manufacturing Companies’ for children. Those companies called them ‘entertainments’ for children. The strong desire for money prevents them to see the harm they are doing to children. Staying hours playing these violent games continue affecting and shaping the lives of these children.

When a child starts cursing, using bad words at home or school is the time the child needs admonition from parents or teachers. They often learn those bad words from the programs they watched on the television or the games they play. The next thing is asking for fake or toy guns for their birthdays. A mother who loves her child will do everything to make him or her happy.

However, buying a toy gun for your son on his birthday, because he wants it, is a way of training your child to be a gun lover. The reason in the United States of America, many children are involved in juvenile crimes, relating to shootings. Yes, some children indulge in entertainments that graphically portrays immoral behavior.

Think, for example, movie and radio stations. Some movie stations feature only violent movies and some radio  stations play sadistic and demonic music. Violent hip-hop or rap music, become some children’s favorite music. They don’t only sing, but they do the violent things the songs preach. When violently erupts, it doesn’t only sweep along those that called for it, but also innocent victims. That’s the sad part of it.

People are confused about religion. Islam they say means ‘Brotherhood, Togetherness, and Peace, but what we see now is terrorism engulfing our neighborhood, discouraging parents to speak to children about the Gospel  or to embrace Bible principles. Religious violence shouldn’t prevent mothers to encourage children to adhere to educating and inspiring Biblical principles.

Education starts from home and what parents teach children from early childhood, become part of someone’s personality and characteristics. Therefore, the things kids learn from their parents have a lasting impression on people. Thus; parents should be careful about teaching their kids the moral values and responsibilities to the society.

The Successful Music Career Of Winston Rodney, Aka Burning Spear

Spear 2

In a display of true humbleness, Burning Spear, is no doubt one of the greatest reggae artists the world has ever known. Born as Winston Rodney, on Ist March 1945, in Saint Ann’s Bay in Jamaica, musicians such as “The Maytals” and “Bob Marley and the Wailers” influenced him.

According to him, it was his encounter with Bob Marley, that ignited his life to fame from 1969. He has then made a couple of songs, but doesn’t know where to start. Then Bob told him to go to “Studio One” and he did. Today among great reggae artists, his music can be heard in every part of the world.

In the lives of individuals, many do remember the mistake one does, than all the good things the person has done. But Burning Spear didn’t forget the direction Bob gave him. He gave credit to Bob Marley in his song “As it is” taken from his album ” Calling Rastafari.” He sings, “I start singing in the late sixties. Told about Studio One by Bob Marley.” But who is actually this man called Burning Spear and why did he choose such a name unto himself?

I never had the opportunity to interview Mr. Rodney, like other great reggae stars, but just as he has been following the footsteps of the great Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King etc, believing God send them to help black people, the same way, I have been following his music for a very long time.

Like the waves retreating into the sea, I went back and compiled the names of some of his old and new songs, to find out the message of Burning Spear’s music. Yes “He stands strong, The world should know, that Man in the hills, Far over, Calling Rastafari to Jah’s Kingdom. His mistress music don’t sell out and Christopher Columbus can’t change his Identity and Fittest of the fittest has made him a Free man.”

Being inspired by the late Jomo Kenyatta of Kenya, Burning Spear put the title of Jomo Kenyatta (Burning Spear ) unto himself as his name. From there on, the flame of the spear is unquenchable, singing about slavery, discrimination and praising men like Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Kwame Nkrumah and Martin Luther King etc. His reason of cherishing these men are simple and logical, because they paved the way for I and I (Africans) to be recognised.

Spear 1Burning Spear showed his love for Africa from his great hit “Greetings” from the album “Far Over,” after his trip to Africa. Greetings Kenya, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.” He said. He lamented bitterly about blacks in the United States of America who have no intention and respect for the culture. As if they have forgotten their history, some even hate to be referred to as Africans. “Even though they say I’m a Yankee” Burning Spear said he still loves them because they are his brothers and sisters.

After over thirty years of his prolific music career, the tireless Burning Spear surprisingly after his 27th album special, released in 1999, Calling Rastafari, which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2000. In 2003, he released another album captioned “Free man” with great numbers such as “Trust, Not Guilty, loved for who I am etc”

Despite that MTV doesn’t promote reggae music, Burning Spear has excelled to be one of the world’s famous musicians. His songs speak of its self. Truly, the achievements of Burning Spear, in the field of reggae, shall remain in the music history for ever.

When Will I See You Pippi Longstocking?

Pippi 8

Images of the beautiful chapters of Pippi Longstocking’s life

One of the favourite children’s program channeled worldwide under different languages is Inger Nilsson, alias Pippi Longstocking. The cute little redheaded girl from Sweden, moves into her father’s cottage Villa Villekula, and meets her next door neighbours Tommy and Annika.

The face of wonderful little Pippi, is still shown all over the world, but one will be surprise to see the beautiful chapters of Pippi’s life, as she grows from little naughty girl to a real lady and then to her ripe age.

As an adult, I love watching Pippi too wuth the children. She has a wonderful horse, mouse and monkey, but what I like most about her, is her pointed rough old shoes. The above photographs are some of Pippi’s from a young girl to adulthood.

She is still beautiful, do you agree with me? If I get the opportunity one day, I would love to visit her to get a portion of her magic wand, to lift up heavy objects, since she could lift up a whole horse.

Rolf Harris And Bill Cosby: The Shocking Scenarios Behind Television Entertainment

Entertain 7

Television personalities Rolf Harris and Bill Cosby: They have something in common.

I was just a little boy when I started watching the entertainment program of Rolf Harris, on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation television in Accra. He was a genius and had all the charismatic  powers to make entertainment worthy to watch. The fact that he could produce sound and rhythm out of any object that gets into his hands, made Rolf Harris one the best entertainers in the world.

What about Bill Cosby? Believe me, he was one of my favourite entertainers too.  The African-American comedian, actor and producer, born on July 12, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, played a major role in the development of more positive portrayal of African-Americans on television.

Television builds career and fame, thus; many people use it as a bait to execute their devilish plans. Just as the axiom goes “Not everything glitters is gold,” these two great television personalities used their positions to abused some of the people they invited to participate in the programs they ran.

Rolf Harris

Rolf Harris was jailed for five years and nine months for indecently assaulting young women and girls after the trial judge told the 84-year-old entertainer he had taken advantage of the trust provided by his fame.

“You have shown no remorse for your crimes at all,” Mr Justice Sweeney told an expressionless Harris, who sat in the glass-walled dock at Southwark crown court. “Your reputation now lies in ruins, you have been stripped of your honours, but you have no one to blame but yourself.”

In the case of three of the four victims, Sweeney told Harris, he “took advantage of the trust placed in you because of your celebrity status” to carry out the attacks. With the final victim, the childhood friend of Harris’s daughter Bindi Nicholls, who Harris began grooming aged 13, the star abused a different type of trust; the trust placed in him by the girl’s parents.

“You clearly got a thrill from committing the offences whilst others were present or nearby,” the judge told Harris. “Whilst such others did not realise what you were doing, their presence added to the ordeal of your victims.”

Sex and abuse scandals seem to have no limit, as many sexual abuse allegations are unearthed against the famous African-American comedian.

Bill Cosby

It’s hard to keep track of the sexual abuse allegations swirling around Bill Cosby, with fresh ones popping up seemingly every day and an unusual mix of decades-old accusations and brand new claims all getting a very public hearing in the news media.

All in all, 16 women have publicly accused Cosby of sexual abuse, 12 of whom have accused him of drugging them to facilitate the abuse. Some of those women may be among 13 anonymous “Jane Doe” accusers who agreed to testify against Cosby in a 2005 lawsuit that was settled out of court. Taken together, the accusations span the length of Cosby’s long career in the public eye as a beloved actor and comedian, from the mid-1960’s to the mid-2000’s. They were given new light last month by a comedian’s standup routine that caught fire on social media, and new accusers coming forward has led to a drip-drip effect of even more coming forward.

Both TV personalities Rolf Harris and Bill Cosby fall from grace to grass

Cosby and his legal team have at various times issued wide-ranging, categorical denials or refused to discuss individual cases, with Cosby saying last week that “a guy doesn’t have to answer to innuendos.”

Do we need to believe in this Biblical quotation? No matter how long it takes, before or after death: “There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known.”- Luke 12:2.
