You’ve Got The Power To Liberate Yourself From Depression

optimized-dep-6

Suicide is not a solution to free yourself from the world’s problems

Everyone has wonderful hopes, dreams, and expectations of their future, but many times what we are looking for never come our way. Some of us have been robbed of our joy through the loss of a loved one and many feel lonely and hopeless when they find themselves in abusive homes and domestic violence.

In such a troubled world, it’s very easy to see the ailments of the society taking its toll on people. The high rate of unemployment and divorce, are also some of the causes leading to depression. It’s not surprised that psychologists have confirmed that the ailments of people can be traced from the homes and environment they were raised.

We understand that as human beings, we are bound to face difficulties in our lives, the important question is: How do we handle those problems we experience? According to World Federation for Mental Health, depression is a significant contributor to the global burden of disease and affects people in all communities across the world.

Today, depression is estimated to affect 350 million people. The World Mental Health Survey conducted in 17 countries found that on average about 1 in 20 people reported having an episode of depression. But do you know that you have the power to overcome loneliness and depression?

Why some people easily succumbed to depression and others able to resist? The happy people we often meet on the street are not super humans. They are only happy because experience in life has taught them that happiness is yourself. Someone can make you unhappy, prevent your success, or do everything to hurt you, but so long as you are a living being, you have the power, desire, inspiration or everything it takes to liberate yourself from that misery, loneliness or depression.

Fear, anxiety, depression and loneliness can easily be prevented than you know. Instead of living on drugs and alcohol, which rather increase your psychological problems, there are some recommended steps which can keep one far from loneliness and depression. Reading interesting books as a hobby can capture your imagination to avoid depression.

If you love to stay at home, please cultivate the habit of taking a walk through the gardens, doing window shopping, joining social clubs. Going to the gym to exercise once or twice a week doesn’t only keep you fit but also psychologically healthy. You may have a hidden talent but you don’t know. Find out what you are very good at, follow it and start blogging to create your happiness.

Another important factor is financial matters, which often wear people down psychologically. When facing financial problems, you need a healthy mind to find your way out not a depressed mind.  I can’t do it, I’m not sure I can succeed, there is nothing left for me in life, are all ‘symptoms’ of depression. Take away the shackle off your body and free mind from the psychological chain damaging your health.

The 5 Biggest Regrets People Have Before They Die

old

Original article published by: Theneeds

Want to hear the strangest thing on earth? Death is perhaps the most constructive fact of our existence. Being aware of death throughout your life can beget the healthiest attitude: one of perspective.

Countless people throughout history knew this too. The ancient Greeks used to “practice death every day,” and the Toltecs would use death as “fuel to live and to love.” The constant reminder ensured they would live more boldly, more kindly, and with less fear.

The Good News About Death

Here’s how the morbid subject can actually benefit us: Our limited days on earth are the ultimate impetus to live with less fear and more intention.

The majority of the time, many of us live as if there will be no end to our days. We stay in unfulfilling careers. We remain in unhappy relationships. We will travel the world “one day.” We fail to tell people how much they matter to us. We hide our real truth, gifts, or talents from the world because we are scared of being judged and criticized.

Losing a parent when I was young made this much more real for me. I felt blessed to come to the realization of how precarious and precious life is while still in my younger years. But you don’t need a loss early in your life to take advantage of the wisdom that awaits you. Learn from people who know.

One of my favorite books is Bronnie Ware’s international bestseller The Top Five Regrets of the Dying. Ware was a hospice nurse in Australia for several years and cared for patients in the last few weeks of their lives. She writes with incredible clarity how similar regrets surfaced again and again.

Surprise, surprise: There was no mention of insufficient status; undelivered revenge; or sadness over not being the thinnest, prettiest, or most famous. These were the most common regrets. (Numbers one and five could make me weep.)

The 5 Most Common Regrets

I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

“This was the most common regret of all,” Ware writes. “When people realize that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honored even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.”

I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.

“All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.”

I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.

“Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.”

I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

“Often they would not truly realize the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks, and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved.”

I wish that I had let myself be happier.

“This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realize until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called ‘comfort’ of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content.”

Burning Uncle Tom’s Cabin

Cabin 3

Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin was one of the most influential novels of its time. However, reading the classic today brings to light stereotypes and plot issues. But rather than write off this classic, author Carl Waters re-imagines and remixes the story into a four-book series that builds from the world and characters Stowe created and expands on the good she intended.

In Burning Uncle Tom’s Cabin, young slave George Harris is a self-taught inventor whose owner despises him. His wife Eliza, however, belongs to another slave owner, along with their three-year-old son Harry.

While George dreams of the day when he can escape to Canada and work to earn enough money so he can buy his family’s freedom, Eliza tries to see the best in her situation. But when her owner falls into financial troubles and plans to offer up Harry as payment against his debt, Eliza runs north with her son.

Suddenly, George must forget his careful planning and immediately go after his family if he has any hope of finding them before the slave hunters capture them. Can the runaway slave, George, find his family and save them? Can he navigate the Underground Railroad and get to Canada? Can he finally gain his freedom?

An innovative retelling that offers fresh insight into America’s past, Burning Uncle Tom’s Cabin is sure to spark as much conversation as the original classic itself. Stowe created the first slavery fiction world and Waters plans to make that world bigger. Most slavery books aim to teach the reader about the dark days of American slavery. Instead, the Burning Uncle Tom’s Cabin series will show the reader what could have happened.

The Author

Cabin 5

Carl Waters, born and raised in Miami, Florida, grew up reading comic books and dreamed of being a new kind of superhero. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he now lives with his wife and daughter.
Waters never forgot his childhood dreams, which over the years transformed into a desire to create new heroes, particularly African-American male heroes, through writing. His debut offering is Burning Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the first book in a four-part series that re-imagines Harriet Beecher Stowe’s classic novel, featuring strong characters who break out of the old stereotypes.

How Do You Envisage Your Future In 2016?

Happy New Year

What do we learn in every old year to live better in the new year?

Within a relatively short period from December 31, 2015, to January 1, 2016, many people couldn’t make this cross-over. Through various reasons, including sickness, they lost the battle to see the year 2016.

There is no doubt that we all had both  positive and negative experiences last year, but since you’ve made it to the new year, what are your hopes, dreams, and aspirations? I strongly believe that your dreams can be a reality in the year 2016.

How prepared to improve the soured relationship with the members of your family? How prepared to change your bad habits to enjoy your professional career? How prepared to be humble and respectful, to get the right gentleman or lady as your partner?

How prepared to make this world a better place for our present and future generation, in a world many think violence, crime, and terrorism, are the only solutions for common problems? We can’t remake the world, but our good deeds can change it.

There is every reason to be happy among those that made it to the new year. Your success, happiness, destiny and good health, are in your own hands. Don’t commit any crime when you know that you will be punished and don’t live in the realms of destructive drugs when you know may affect your health.

Instead of blaming others for the destruction of the world, we should take it upon ourselves to restore our nation’s dignity. “Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.” 2 Corinthians 13:11.

Leave The Problems Behind And Take A Positive Step Into The Year 2016

Chearing 1Happiness and togetherness is all that we need to make this world beautiful

Many are  struggling  to overcome anxiety disorder, fear and uncertainty, only to get disappointing results, because crime, violence and terrorism are taking away our peaceful and happy moments.

The problem is that most people find it hard to overcome their fears, because it’s part of who they are. That’s actually a mistake. “No one drinks medicine on the behalf of a sick person,” a Ghanaian proverb, meaning your happiness is in your own hands.

At times sadness, loneliness and depression make us feel miserable and scared, because we don’t know what tomorrow may bring. If you take a wider view of things you could discover that dating and friendships seem to be disappointments. Many are hurt or recovering from love affair disasters. Why must my dates end in this way? This is one of the questions that usually follows.

Many times it may be differences of opinions, careers and misunderstandings, but at times it may turn out to be that the partners don’t like something about each other, especially about his or her character. Humbleness and politeness create a happy environment, but how many people there are polite and humble?

Within some few days, we shall be witnessing the new year (2016). Are you going to carry your problems along with you? We often allow problems to take its toll on us, than finding solutions.

If the blind can play the piano, someone without hands, can open the chapters of a book, with his toes or tongue, then why do you have to grumble when you are physically strong?

The purpose of this article is to encourage, not to discourage. There are many opportunities there for you. Let God be your guide to choose wisely and let your hopes and dreams be a reality in year 2016.

Keep On Writing Until The Bones Are Rotten

Bones 2Photo credit: Pixgood.com

It’s unfortunate that many have already given up or quit writing, because the book which they thought could make them bestselling author, has totally disappointed them, terminating the desire to be a good author.

In a world of which thousands of books are published yearly and affected by the rapid decline of reading, many are struggling in the field of writing with shattered dreams.

What is making the situation worse, is the sick habit of some famous writers, that often used Social Media platforms to discredit other writers’ work, as a way to draw readers’ attention to their works or gain more recognition and fame.

Again some unknown and new writers that want their voice heard or recognition, resort to undermining other writer’s work on social platforms as well. I have read such distasteful comments about other writers over and over wondering: Why some people live with greed and selfishness, aiming to achieve whatever they are looking for?

As a matter of fact, if one is intelligent to write a book, that intelligence is enough to teach the person that “Success comes to people that wish others success. They should make research and find out: “Whoever digs a hole against someone will surely fall into that hole himself.”

As an aspiring writer, what pushed you into writing? What are the motives that triggered your desire into book publishing, money or fame? I’m interested in these questions, because if you’re an aspiring or new writer, entering into the field of publishing, with the desire of becoming a millionaire over night, then I’m sorry, you will end up disappointed and depressed.

This is the situation many aspiring writers are facing today. What many writers have failed to realise is that: Stepping into the field of book publishing as a new writer, is like a stranger making proposal to a woman he finds attractive. She doesn’t know you, she therefore needs more time to know your background and where you come from.

This investigation or proposal may last a month or years, depending on what kind the lady is. After her investigations, if she is satisfied, she will accept the man’s proposal and marry him. The same way it takes a short or very long time for readers to accept or reject your book as an author.

If you have this in mind, as a new writer, before entering the field of book publishing, you will always be happy, easy and relaxed, no matter how poor or fast your books are moving. There shouldn’t be a competition in book publishing. If your book doesn’t suit this generation, another generation will accept it. The reason many writers become famous years after death.

There is a time for everything. A time to sow and to harvest, sickness and healthiness. Thus; there will be a time the underestimated shall be estimated. Let this article encourage you, if you have already given up or decided to do so. Even though, writing is considered to be one of the most dangerous professions, let the writing continue unabated until the bones are rotten.

Do You Ever Dream Of Playing A Role In A Movie?

film 2We all enjoy watching exciting movies and our favorite film stars, to lively up ourselves, as a source of entertainment, after an exhausting day from work or to create a happy union with families, especially at weekends.

We learn a lot from the movies we watch, as they play with our emotions. Sometimes we do cry, get frightened or laugh on the top of our hearts on some films, since some of the films are very hilarious.

As we enjoy watching films or entertain ourselves, have you ever wished or considered to play a role in a film or be an actor? Days back in the early seventies, there was a columnist, “Nana Ama advices you,” in one of the leading Ghanaian newspapers.

That could be the first time I read my letter in a newspaper, when Nana Ama gave me the advice of how to become a successful film actor, after I enquired from her what steps to take to become a film actor.

I watched my favorite television films, ‘Bonanza, The Mod Squad, High Chaparral, Cisco and Pancho, The Sea Way, The Saint, Department S, The Sea Way, The Persuaders etc, without the opportunity to reach Hollywood.

However, one day my dreams were fulfilled locally, when my father, a journalist and a documentary film producer and director, working at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, offered me roles in two of his films, ‘Cocoa in Ghana and Backyard Industries,’ in the seventies. I was very happy indeed.

I believe that everyone has a talent or born with a talent. Some discover that talent early and others late. Unfortunately, some of these dreams can never be a reality, because there is no means, especially when you are born without a silver spoon in the mouth. But we can always contribute to shape the life and pattern of people positively in the society. I am therefore happy to be a writer.
