Why We Should Crave For Spiritual Things Than Material Things

Peace 3

Many dream of becoming a millionaire and they want it quick, because it is made to understand that without money or wealth, there wouldn’t be any success in life. Thus, the love for money and the chase for wealth go on without ceasing, bringing crime, greed, misery and death to our homes.

When the great teacher, Jesus Christ, was tempted by Satan, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’ Jesus’ answer indicates that human beings need also spiritual food.

What is spiritual food by the way? Just like we need physical food for physical strength, we need spiritual food for spiritual strength. Why spiritual strength necessary for man?  At every moment we need spiritual strength to fight bravely against fear, doubt, worry, jealousy and imperfection. Also spiritual strength helps us to endure daily trials and tribulations, without thinking of ending your life in the deepest crisis.

Evidently, there is no doubt that many people lack spiritual strength to fight some of these unseen forces and immoralities, drifting them into the tunnel of darkness. The Buddhist, Spiritual leaders and Yoga teachers, can tell you the significance of spirituality, because when we pray and meditate, we crave for spiritual things, by reading the scriptures, without much desire for material things. After all what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul? We came with nothing into the world and we leave with nothing.

Spiritual strength is acquired through daily prayers and meditation. It gives one the ability to liberate himself and to manifest the Divine on earth.  Many rich people even though have thousands of friends, due to the lack of strength in the heart; they still feel lonely and insecure. It is very hard to forgive sometimes when someone hurts you, but we must try to forgive, because forgiveness brings unexpected showers of blessing.

I have said it over and over that ‘Whatever happens to me benefits me.’ Prayers, meditation, the lessons and whatever I’ve gone through in my life, have given me the knowledge and wisdom to raise a happy family, to avoid crime, being a drug addict or trafficker and keeping me from going to jail. This makes me feel like a millionaire even though I’ve no penny in my pocket.

How far would you go to save your family?

Every morning, as her husband Mike straps on his SIG Sauer and pulls on his heavy Magnum boots, Jamie Anderson tenses up. Then comes the call she has always dreaded: There’s been a shooting at police headquarters. Mike isn’t hurt, but his long-time partner is grievously injured.

As weeks pass and her husband’s insomnia and disconnectedness mount, Jamie realizes he is an invisible casualty of the attack. Then the phone rings again. Another shooting—but this time Mike has pulled the trigger.

But the shooting does more than just alter Jamie’s world. It’s about to change everything for two other women. Christie Simmons, Mike’s flamboyant ex, sees the tragedy as an opportunity for a second chance with Mike.

And Jamie’s younger sister, Lou, must face her own losses to help the big sister who raised her. As the press descends and public cries of police brutality swell, Jamie tries desperately to hold together her family, no matter what it takes.

In her characteristic exploration of true-to-life relationships, Sarah Pekkanen has written a complex, compelling, and openhearted novel—her best yet.

The Author

Sarah Pekkanen is the internationally-bestselling author of the novels CATCHING AIR, THE BEST OF US, THESE GIRLS, SKIPPING A BEAT and THE OPPOSITE OF ME. Sarah is the mother of three boys, which explains why she wrote part of her novel at Chuck E. Cheese. Seriously.

She penned her first book, Miscellaneous Tales and Poems, at the age of 10. When publishers failed to jump upon this literary masterpiece (hey, all the poems rhymed!) Sarah followed up by sending them a sternly-worded letter on Raggedy Ann stationery.

Sarah still has that letter, and carries it to New York every time she has meetings with her publisher, as a reminder that dreams do come true. At least some dreams – Brad Pitt has yet to show up on her doorstep wearing nothing but a toolbelt and asking if she needs anything fixed. So maybe it’s only G-rated dreams that come true.
