Daniel 1

He has been called his generation’s finest writer of international intrigue and one of the greatest American spy novelists ever. Compelling, passionate, haunting, brilliant: these are the words that have been used to describe the work of #1 New York Times-bestselling author Daniel Silva.

Silva burst onto the scene in 1997 with his electrifying bestselling debut, The Unlikely Spy, a novel of love and deception set around the Allied invasion of France in World War II. His second and third novels, The Mark of the Assassin and The Marching Season, were also instant New York Times bestsellers and starred two of Silva’s most memorable characters:

CIA officer Michael Osbourne and international hit man Jean-Paul Delaroche. But it was Silva’s fourth novel, The Kill Artist, which would alter the course of his career. The novel featured a character described as one of the most memorable and compelling in contemporary fiction, the art restorer and sometime Israeli secret agent Gabriel Allon, and though Silva did not realize it at the time, Gabriel’s adventures had only just begun.

Gabriel Allon appears in Silva’s next nine novels, each one more successful than the last: The English Assassin, The Confessor, A Death in Vienna, and Prince of Fire, The Messenger, The Secret Servant, Moscow Rules, and The Defector. Silva’s forthcoming novel, The Rembrandt Affair, will be published on July 20, 2010.

Silva knew from a very early age that he wanted to become a writer, but his first profession would be journalism. Born in Michigan, raised and educated in California, he was pursuing a master’s degree in international relations when he received a temporary job offer from United Press International to help cover the 1984 Democratic National Convention in San Francisco.

Later that year Silva abandoned his studies and joined UPI fulltime, working first in San Francisco, then on the foreign desk in Washington, and finally as Middle East correspondent in Cairo and the Persian Gulf. In 1987, while covering the Iran-Iraq war, he met NBC Today National Correspondent Jamie Gangel and they were married later that year. Silva returned to Washington and went to work for CNN and became Executive Producer of its talk show unit including shows like Crossfire, Capital Gang and Reliable Sources.

In 1995 he confessed to Jamie that his true ambition was to be a novelist. With her support and encouragement he secretly began work on the manuscript that would eventually become the instant bestseller The Unlikely Spy. He left CNN in 1997 after the book’s successful publication and began writing full time.

Since then all of Silva’s books have been New York Times and international bestsellers. His books have been translated in to more than 25 languages and are published around the world. Silva continues to reside in Washington with his wife and teenage twins Lily and Nicholas. When not writing he can usually be found roaming the stacks of the Georgetown University library, where he does much of the research for his books.

He is currently at work on a new Gabriel Allon novel and warmly thanks all those friends and loyal readers who have helped to make the series such an amazing success.

AFTERLIFE

TIM

We are all curious about afterlife, we all wonder what would happen to us after death, where we would go and what would heaven or hell be like. It is the story of one such mind that would take readers into not only weird, eerie and scary places but also a sad, compelling and a beautiful journey that is mostly otherworldly.

Read the book to find out about those mysterious places that would definitely make you wonder whether they were for real. I write for my charity ISSLCARE, the fund I get from my books is use to run it which in turn help finance impoverished families in Nepal so they can send their children to school.

TIM 2

I was born in Dhampus, Kaski, Gandaki, Nepal, in 1963. I studied at the local school, and just like my fathers and uncles, I joined the British army at the age of 17, and came to Hong Kong in 1980 as a Gurkha soldier. After serving in the army for 13 years, I voluntarily retired in 1993 and went back to Nepal for a brief time before I got a job offer from a local company.

I returned to Hong Kong and never left. My job required me to visit China on a regular basis. China was just opening up, and I had the rare opportunity to see it firsthand from the very beginning. My wife and children joined me in Hong Kong two years after my return. We were lucky enough to be able to setup our small home here, and we have been here almost twenty years.

While I was busy raising my family and earning a livelihood, I had no time to think about other things in life. Since I started working at 17, I had no chance of going to the university, and I have learned everything from living my life. I worked really hard, earned enough to provide a comfortable life for my family and was lucky enough to be able to make choices in life.

I had always wanted to do something different after I turned fifty, something more important and meaningful that came directly from my heart, and would eventually make me happy. I never wanted to work for money after I reached a certain age in life. I wanted to spend the last half of my life following my heart, and that is precisely what I am doing now.

Writing has always been in me; the joy and satisfaction I get from writing are not possible from anything else. I genuinely feel at home only when I am writing; it is an excellent gift the Almighty bestowed upon me and I cannot waste it. I needed to use it for good and I have no intention whatsoever to write for fame or fortune.

I write for good, for society and for the people. Writers should write for global readers, not limiting or restricting themselves within certain boundaries or societies. They should write about global problems. I, for one, am going to try my best to do just that, God willing, and I sincerely hope I can make progress toward change.

As planned, I have already established a charity foundation on my family’s behalf, ISSLCARE FOUNDATION LTD. The money I get from selling my books will be used to run my charity, and henceforth, I will spend the rest of my life helping the weak, the poor and the needy. This promise was not done in a fit of emotions, nor is it some sort of gimmick to sell more books, but a commitment of a lifetime, which I will fulfill at any cost.

Please keep visiting us on a regular basis and see the progress being made. You won’t be disappointed. I couldn’t do it without the help, love and support of my dearest wife, my two children and my other closest families and friends. You are always on my mind; you keep me going. Please always remember that I am nothing without you guys; without you, nothing is possible. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I genuinely love and care for you all and will cherish you for the rest of my life. God bless you all!

All of my books are edited by VICTORIA GIRAUD, and I wish her a heartfelt thank you, as always.

Yours truly,

Paid For: My Journey Through Prostitution

PAID 2

An astonishingly brave memoir of life in prostitution and its lingering influence on a woman’s psyche and life.

“The best work by anyone on prostitution ever, Rachel Moran’s Paid For fuses the memoirist’s lived poignancy with the philosopher’s conceptual sophistication. The result is riveting, compelling, incontestable. Impossible to put down.

This book provides all anyone needs to know about the reality of prostitution in moving, insightful prose that engages and disposes of every argument ever raised in its favor.” ―Catharine A. MacKinnon, law professor, University of Michigan and Harvard University

Born to mentally unstable parents, Rachel Moran left home at the age of fourteen. Being homeless, she became prostituted to survive. With intelligence and empathy, she describes the fears she and others had working on the streets and in the brothels.

Moran also speaks to the psychological damage that accompanies prostitution and the estrangement from one’s body. At the age of twenty-two, Moran escaped prostitution. She has since become a writer and an abolitionist activist.

Dreams From My Father: A Story Of Race And Inheritance

Barack 4

In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a black African father and a white American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father—a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man—has been killed in a car accident.

This sudden death inspires an emotional odyssey—first to a small town in Kansas, from which he retraces the migration of his mother’s family to Hawaii, and then to Kenya, where he meets the African side of his family, confronts the bitter truth of his father’s life, and at last reconciles his divided inheritance.

A Dance With The Devil

Devil

Even as he drained her credit, dodged her questions, manipulated her and misled her, she stayed with him, suppressing her growing suspicions. Ultimately he would try to kill her, proving himself not a protector and provider, but a predator.

This is Barbara’s courageous, compelling story, in her own words?of the slow, choking darkness that fell after the honeymoon was over, what it took to finally drive her to escape and start her life anew, and her tireless efforts to protect other women and help them learn from her example.

The Author

Bab

I grew up in a small blue-collar town in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I pedaled my bicycle to the local park to collect discarded soda bottles to pay my way to the Saturday matinee, read Nancy Drew mysteries, met with friends for bowling and roller skating excursions, and buried my nose in my school books. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would become an internationally published author who has appeared on national television in the United States and Canada.

I entered the world of writing quite by accident; it was the result of my husband trying to murder me by ether asphyxiation. As I helped the homicide detective prepare my case for trial, I decided to write a book to help others understand the crazymaking world of psychopaths and how their cleverness can trap the most unsuspecting victim who has been raised in an environment of trust. I also made the decision to change an unjust divorce law that had me give my attacker half of my retirement fund and alimony.

Having made the decision to tell my story, it was now time to learn how to write. I read books, joined the International Women’s Writing Guild, and attended the Writers Retreat Workshop. I used passion, planning, patience, and persistence to see Penguin’s Berkley Books publish my book “A Dance with the Devil: A True Story of Marriage to a Psychopath.” Little did I know that when I started the story was not finished; the successful end was that several years later I did change the divorce law of California.

I feel blessed that my story has been featured on Dateline NBC, the Lifetime Television show “Final Justice” hosted by Erin Brockovich and the Canadian network VIVA in their series “The Devil You Know.” In 2009, I won the prestigious Paul H. Chapman award from the Foundation for the Improvement of Justice in Atlanta, Georgia, for my role in changing the divorce law. I believe I am one person who can make a difference and I field numerous emails from victims who thank me for writing my book while they tell me how it has positively affected their lives.

I willingly share my experience whenever the opportunity arises. I am a motivational speaker who has spoken to audiences numbering from ten to five hundred for such diverse organizations as the American Association of University Women, Soroptimists, the International Women’s Writing Guild, St. Mary’s University, Children’s Advocacy Program and Diablo Valley College and was part of an all day seminar titled “Dream It, Do It.”

I’m retired after 39 years in the business world and have found that I enjoy writing. I am now a lifetime member of the California Writers Club and currently serve as secretary for one my local branch. Writing interests include authoring and illustrating a fairy tale trilogy, putting together a book on success based on what I discovered about myself as I wrote my first book, and penning an historical novel about a strong Irish woman.

I live in Northern California with my husband of thirteen years, and our cat Sierra. My husband and I are award-winning home wine and label makers who love to travel extensively around the globe.
