Great Men Knocked Down By Women: Will It Ever Come To An End?

Place 2Great men in sex scandals: Top, from left to right, Bill Clinton, John Profumo , Kobe Bryant and below, from left to right, Mike Tyson, Tiger Woods and Jeffery Archer.

Newspapers often come out with stories of great people, including politicians and celebrities in sex scandals, turning their lives upside down. Because they weren’t strong enough to control their sexual desire or too weak to resist the charm and power of attractive ladies. From Biblical times, there are stories of infidelity and adultery, putting many great men in the worst positions.

One of such stories recorded in the scriptures is that of King David, a composer, the author of the book of Psalms. He couldn’t control his desire after seeing Uriah’s wife through his window taking her bath. After failing to persuade Uriah to sleep with his wife, to concede his sin and pregnancy of Bathsheba, David sent Uriah to the hottest part of a battlefield to get him killed. God severely punished David for his sinful act and the child died after birth.

Giving examples of Biblical records of great men involved in sex scandals wouldn’t be intriguing, so let’s shift to our past and present generation. On June 5, 1963, British Secretary of War John Profumo resigns his post after confessing that he had lied to the House of Commons about his sexual affair with Christine Keeler, an alleged prostitute. The scandal didn’t affect him alone but threatened to topple Prime Minister Harold Macmillan’s government.

A couple of years ago, it was revealed that former president of the USA, Bill Clinton, is involved in an affair with a former staff of the White House, Monica Lewinski. I watched as people argued that the story couldn’t be true. Is Clinton different from other great men women had brought to their knees? To make matters worse, after Clinton’s denial of not having any relationship with Monica, he later admitted to having sexual intercourse with Monica Lewinski.

What about the boxer Mike Tyson? He was convicted and jailed for raping Desire Washington. According to the story, Tyson invited her to his hotel room. To do what behind closed doors?  Later Mike Tyson was convicted of rape.  Many believe that Desire lied of being raped by Tyson, unfortunately not everyone believes that. Mike Tyson served his prison sentence but never became the iron Mike he used to be.  In one of his fights, after coming from prison, frustrated Tyson bit the ear of Evander Holyfield. They say the downfall of a man is not the end of his life, but at times some events and situations can be destructive.

Some years back in Britain, the famous British novelist Jeffery Archer, won a libel suit against the Sun newspaper for an article about him sleeping with a prostitute. According to Mr. Jeffery Archer, the story was untrue and it damaged his reputation. The author of ‘Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less’ was finally exposed. He admitted to having asked a friend to lie on his behalf to conceal the truth. So he did really sleep with a prostitute. The startling new revelation affected Jeffery Archer such that he stepped down from contesting the seat as the mayor of London. Oh, what a shame?

On September 1, 2004, the criminal sexual assault case against Kobe Bryant, the NBA star, was dropped by the prosecutors because the accuser no longer wanted to participate in the court process.   This was after Kobe Bryant was charged with sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman in a Colorado hotel where she worked. The question is “why is it that the mighty keep falling from the hands of women?” Is it lust, lack of control or temptation which is causing these problems? I can’t really unfold the mystery behind this.

One of such news about men involved in sex scandals, which shocked the world, was the case of the successful golfer, Tiger Woods. With such a  great career, leading him to all the corners of the world and winning great tournaments, the married man lost focus and hit the golf ball into the underwear of porno stars, severely damaging his reputation and career.  I am a man, therefore I know the comfort and satisfaction at that place which belongs to a woman, but I am aware of the dangers and temptation, especially if you are a married man.

According to the scriptures, God places people in situations where He tests their faith and commitment.  Why God does test us when He knew the man will fail? Is man trying to get back the rib God used to create the Eve-woman, while the woman fights hard to keep it? If God really tests man, then a man should pass the trial by not falling into temptations, because He also gave man power to resist temptation. In this case, a man shouldn’t blame God or woman for his failure.

Another question worth to bring on the table is: Can these bitter stories serve as a lesson to other men? Time will tell, but I don’t think so. Men will always drift into danger since the body is weak to resist temptation, moreover, Satan is like a hungry lion, lurking around the corner, looking for its next victim to devour, but we mustn’t allow him to catch us.

Rolf Harris And Bill Cosby: The Shocking Scenarios Behind Television Entertainment

Entertain 7

Television personalities Rolf Harris and Bill Cosby: They have something in common.

I was just a little boy when I started watching the entertainment program of Rolf Harris, on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation television in Accra. He was a genius and had all the charismatic  powers to make entertainment worthy to watch. The fact that he could produce sound and rhythm out of any object that gets into his hands, made Rolf Harris one the best entertainers in the world.

What about Bill Cosby? Believe me, he was one of my favourite entertainers too.  The African-American comedian, actor, and producer, born on July 12, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, played a major role in the development of a more positive portrayal of African-Americans on television.

Television builds career and fame, thus; many people use it as a bait to execute their devilish plans. Just as the axiom goes “Not everything glitters is gold,” these two great television personalities used their positions to abused some of the people they invited to participate in the programs they ran.

Rolf Harris

Rolf Harris was jailed for five years and nine months for indecently assaulting young women and girls after the trial judge told the 84-year-old entertainer he had taken advantage of the trust provided by his fame.

“You have shown no remorse for your crimes at all,” Mr. Justice Sweeney told an expressionless Harris, who sat in the glass-walled dock at Southwark crown court. “Your reputation now lies in ruins, you have been stripped of your honours, but you have no one to blame but yourself.”

In the case of three of the four victims, Sweeney told Harris, he “took advantage of the trust placed in you because of your celebrity status” to carry out the attacks. With the final victim, the childhood friend of Harris’s daughter Bindi Nicholls, who Harris began grooming aged 13, the star abused a different type of trust; the trust placed in him by the girl’s parents.

“You clearly got a thrill from committing the offenses whilst others were present or nearby,” the judge told Harris. “Whilst such others did not realize what you were doing, their presence added to the ordeal of your victims.”

Sex and abuse scandals seem to have no limit, as many sexual abuse allegations are unearthed against the famous African-American comedian.

Bill Cosby

It’s hard to keep track of the sexual abuse allegations swirling around Bill Cosby, with fresh ones popping up seemingly every day and an unusual mix of decades-old accusations and brand new claims all getting a very public hearing in the news media.

All in all, 16 women have publicly accused Cosby of sexual abuse, 12 of whom have accused him of drugging them to facilitate the abuse. Some of those women may be among 13 anonymous “Jane Doe” accusers who agreed to testify against Cosby in a 2005 lawsuit that was settled out of court. Taken together, the accusations span the length of Cosby’s long career in the public eye as a beloved actor and comedian, from the mid-1960’s to the mid-2000’s. They were given new light last month by a comedian’s stand-up routine that caught fire on social media, and new accusers coming forward has led to a drip-drip effect of even more coming forward.

Both TV personalities Rolf Harris and Bill Cosby fall from grace to grass

Cosby and his legal team have at various times issued wide-ranging, categorical denials or refused to discuss individual cases, with Cosby saying last week that “a guy doesn’t have to answer to innuendos.”

Do we need to believe in this Biblical quotation? No matter how long it takes, before or after death: “There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed or hidden that will not be made known.”- Luke 12:2.

Can Home Cooking Build A Happy Marriage?

Cooking 4

Falling in love is a wonderful and magical experience between two people. The chemistry is strange and sometimes very complicated. The experience differs in many ways but the commonest are happiness, restlessness and strong emotions. However; falling in love doesn’t always guarantee a successful marriage or living together. Frankly speaking, according to statistics many are getting divorce more than getting together.

To build and support successful marriage or relationships, many partners read books written as a guide to happy marriage. Despite hundreds of books counseling couples, lovers are constantly in pain, emotionally and psychologically, affected by painful love affairs. The causes of divorces or separations vary, lack of attention, sex, cheating, quarrels, financial matters and others. However; few things many never thought of as destroyer of marriages is the lack of cooking at home and lack of prevention of early sex in teenage relationship.

Many couples friendship began at school as teenagers before they settled. In principle, it is always good for people to study and know each other very well, before entering into relations or love affairs. But on moral issues entering into relationships as teenagers isn’t a wise thing to do. Children as young as thirteen and fourteen indulged in caressing and kissing. This is seen as normal in advanced countries but in Africa, it is not permitted.

Most of these early relationships end up in separate ways or settling together. When they finally get married, the love isn’t strong as before. That’s where the problems begin. In this case, the marriage doesn’t go far. Why? The reason is simple and logical. Both have seen their nakedness too much as teenagers to the extent that they no longer value their precious bodies as adults. No happiness and the essence of enjoying a happy relationship is completely ruined.

Here the dignity and the worthiness of the woman have been neglected and abused by the man. It is always the man that causes the breakup because he wants something new. Many start to cheat and stayed late at work in illicit love affairs. A woman or man may find the real happiness in life, marriage, living together or in relationships, when they enter into love affairs as adults than as teenagers.

Any man or woman who doesn’t know how to cook before getting into a relationship or marriage may not fully enjoy the relationship. There is always a guarantee for a happy marriage when one of the partners knows how to cook but if both can’t cook means the marriage have a bleak future. Imagine a family depending always on fast food or tin foods. How would a husband feel after a day’s hard work, comes home to sit behind the dining table and be served with can spaghetti, with that marshy tomato sauce? Many enjoy that but that’s health hazard.

A man facing such situation may never be happy. Some may speak against it but many hide the way they feel when upset. Since he can’t live with that any longer he starts to seek his interest in other places. That’s where the cheating starts. If the one he is seeing can’t provide him those delicious meals he is missing from his previous partner, the relationship automatically comes to an end.

It is therefore very essential for both men and women to learn or know how to cook before getting into a relationship or marriage. Getting familiar with cooking isn’t a difficult issue. There are thousands of books and adult schools for cooking. Time factor is always an issue. Many may not have the time to go to a cooking school after work. Here a cooking book is very useful.

Just follow the instructions on how to cook and next thing is the delicious meal on the dining table. You may not be perfect at your first attempt but remember practice makes man perfect. Besides, cultivating the habit of cooking at home saves a lot of money. I am happily married for the past twenty years. When my wife is busy at work, I do the cooking for the children. This is the only way to share the secrets of why our marriage is stronger than ever. I am a very good cook apart from my writing career.

The Author

Maya 2

(Born Marguerite Ann Johnson on April 4, 1928) Maya Angelou was an American author and poet who has been called “America’s most visible black female autobiographer” by scholar Joanne M. Braxton. She is best known for her series of six autobiographical volumes, which focus on her childhood and early adult experiences. The first and most highly acclaimed, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (1969), tells of her first seventeen years. It brought her international recognition and was nominated for a National Book Award. She has been awarded over 30 honorary degrees and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for her 1971 volume of poetry, Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water ‘Fore I Diiie.

Angelou was a member of the Harlem Writers Guild in the late 1950s, was active in the Civil Rights movement, and served as Northern Coordinator of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Since 1991, she has taught at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she holds the first lifetime Reynolds Professorship of American Studies. Since the 1990’s she has made around eighty appearances a year on the lecture circuit. In 1993, Angelou recited her poem “On the Pulse of Morning” at President Bill Clinton’s inauguration, the first poet to make an inaugural recitation since Robert Frost at John F. Kennedy’s inauguration in 1961. In 1995, she was recognized for having the longest-running record (two years) on The New York Times Paperback Nonfiction Bestseller List.

With the publication of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Angelou was heralded as a new kind of memoirist, one of the first African American women who was able to publicly discuss her personal life. She is highly respected as a spokesperson for Black people and women. Angelou’s work is often characterized as autobiographical fiction. She has, however, made a deliberate attempt to challenge the common structure of the autobiography by critiquing, changing, and expanding the genre. Her books, centered on themes such as identity, family, and racism, are often used as set texts in schools and universities internationally. Some of her more controversial work has been challenged or banned in US schools and libraries.

Hulk Hogan Removed From WWE Hall Of Fame Over Racial Slurs

Hulk

“WWE is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide.”

World Wrestling Entertainment has fired Hulk Hogan and removed all traces of him from its website after a radio interview from 2012 surfaced where he used a racial slur several times.

Hogan appeared on DJ Whoo Kid’s radio show “Whoolywood Shuffle” on Sirius XM in 2012. In the interview, Hogan said, “Everybody down there — Lil Wayne, Birdman — they’re all calling me … and then I started sayin’ it. And I always said it, but now all of a sudden I get heat when I say it, and they say, ‘Hogan, you can’t say that,’ so I say, ‘Why can they say it to me, then?'”

Though the interview is from three years ago, it resurfaced online late Thursday and quickly went viral. It was then that WWE deleted all references to Hogan from its website, including removing him from their Hall of Fame section.

On Friday, WWE released a statement saying, “WWE terminated its contract with Terry Bollea (a.k.a. Hulk Hogan). WWE is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide.”

A few minutes after WWE released its statement, Radaronline.com reported that Hogan used racial slurs in a separate, much more inflammatory incident during a conversation about someone that was offering to fund his daughter’s music career.

Hogan has also been removed as a judge from WWE’s “Tough Enough” reality show, which airs Tuesday’s on the USA network.

The only response from Hogan so far has come in a tweet. “In the storm I release control, God and his Universe will sail me where he wants me to be, one love. HH,” he wrote.
