The Night Of The Mosquito

Mosquitoe

August 10, 2014, England. An apocalyptic event strikes without warning, wiping out power and communications throughout the country. Amid the ensuing chaos, a six-foot-ten-inch tall killer who claims links to Jack the Ripper escapes custody. Seemingly unstoppable, he leaves a trail of death and destruction in his wake.

In the village of Churchend, retired hypnotherapist Michael Anderson suffers an extreme reaction to a mosquito bite. The resulting delirium and soul searching convince him his life is about to change – but first, he must fight to stay alive. A rich and varied cast of characters is portrayed in this gripping thriller.

Filled with action, suspense and moving drama, you’ll root for the heroes in this roller-coaster ride of a story. ‘China’s writing is great; he excels at bone-crunching action scenes.’ Amazon USA review.

It is said that everyone has a book inside them, and I’ve wanted to write mine since I was seventeen. It took a long time to get around to it, but now I’m finding it hard to stop.

My debut novel, The Sister, hit the UK Kindle top 100 chart soon after release in late January 2014, peaking at no 81, something I’d have never thought possible, except in my dreams. It’s still selling.
The book led to a listing in the Top 50 Crime Writers to Watch in 2014 and also received a Gold Medal award from HarperCollins site Authonomy, earlier this year.

The second book, The Life and Times of William Boule, is an action, adventure, crime thriller, and follows the lives of several characters introduced in The Sister. The story is complete in its own right – you don’t have to have read the earlier book to enjoy it. Released late summer 2014, it’s been well received, gaining some excellent reviews.

My third novel, The Night of The Mosquito, will be released 29 September 2015. It’s an interesting blend of crime, mystery and psychological thriller. Set against an apocalyptic backdrop, it’s a roller-coaster ride of a story!

Currently, I’m working on a fourth novel, an expansion of the short story, Don’t Turn on The Light.

Other work in the pipeline, includes another three Miller stories, The Man in Brown, Finding Her, and The Resurrectionists.

I can’t write quickly enough, but at the same time, I recognize the need to develop great characters, produce good, solid story lines, and quality writing. I hope those of you who’ve enjoyed my books so far will continue to do so.

The Holy Bible: The best book to read

The glory of my presence is becoming brighter, stronger, more prominent. In the days soon coming the natural circumstances will seem dark and dim. But to those who have eyes to see, my spirit will shine brightly. There will be no need for alarm. There will be no need to fret, to worry, or to fear. For I will be with you, and I will be guiding you, speaking to you, covering you with my presence.

For there will be much turmoil, much catastrophe, much confusion. And people will shake and turn their heads, left in wonder and confusion. People will be bewildered, not knowing what to do, where to go, or how to respond. There will be wars and rumors of wars, and the great shakings will not subside. Brother will betray brother, and days will look so bleak and dim.

But for those whose hearts are listening to me, those who have cultivated a history together with me, taken the time to know my voice, have invested in depth of relationship, they will hear my voice. They will hear my voice, see my hands at work, recognize the direction in which all these things are heading. And though there will be storms on the left and on the right, the storms will not sway the message, nor the heart of the messenger. The storms will not delay tasks that will be accomplished. The storms will not confound, nor confuse, those whose hearts are already surrendered to me.

And the light will go down and grow dim, but those who are connected will remain connected even still. For they have already come to the understanding that apart from me you can do nothing. So they will stretch out their hands and I will work miracles. I will bring order to their situation. I will bring perspective to their direction. I will be clarity to their confusion. I will bring understanding to their mystery.

And in these days, many will scatter. Many will fall away and scramble, as a drowning man grasps for anything in order to attempt to save his own life. And in the streets there will be chaos, there will be panic. So do not look to the events in this world to discern your course of action. For the path of destruction is wide. But plot your course according to what I reveal to you. For I will preserve you. I will protect you. I will provide for you.

And though you think you are ready, there is still much foundation needing to be laid. There is still much ground needing to be covered.

What Is It Like To Be A Woman?

Proverb 4

One of Marilyn Monroe’s quote which reveals how unique, special and different a woman is.

I am a married man for the past 21 years, yet I can’t say I know a lot about women. My wife gets angry with me sometimes, when I know I’m right and she is wrong. But since I don’t want to lean upon my understanding, which may be wrong, I quickly apologize to her to create a happy atmosphere once again.

I work at a place with over forty female teachers. I ‘m always scared to smile, paranoid maybe, because I don’t want any of the ladies there to have in mind that I want her. I, therefore, maintain a serious mood at my workplace. Unfortunately, I was doing more harm to myself than good.

In the first year, I realized pure hatred from some of the teachers towards me. Action speaks louder than words, so don’t ask me how I know that they hate me, please. In fact, some people can’t control their emotions when they hate you. Many pretend they haven’t seen me, even though I’m very close to those tempting bodies, fashion and magic perfumes.

The hate towards me increased to a certain level that I decided to find a solution immediately, to present myself a faithful and trustful person among them. I started greeting those I’ve never greeted at the school before. Some just walked away without response but some gave me recognition and responded. That encouraged me to continue the greetings.

Did I forget myself as an African, when there is a proverb in Africa that says a woman is a beautiful flower in the middle of the garden and the man is the fence around it? Did I also forget that in Mexico, it is said men that treat women very good were brought up by queens?

“If she’s amazing, she won’t be easy. If she’s easy, she won’t be amazing. If she’s worth it, you won’t give up. If you give up, you’re not worthy. … Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.” Did I also forget this great quote from the reggae legend, Bob Marley?

Once you have a clean heart and ready to change things in your life, you will be successful. I became friendlier with a broad smile on my face daily. Once I met one of the ladies who hate me most, with a cup of coffee in one hand and books in the other hand, trying to open a door and I rushed like the late Christopher Reeve in his Super Man series, to open the door for her.

Proverb

An African proverb revealing the greatness and importance of a woman in the society.

It was that very day, she asked of my name and she told me hers. Since then we communicate regularly and laugh over many things. In life, never judge a woman wrongly. Like every human being, some are introverts and others extrovert. Some may be very quiet but that doesn’t mean that they hate you, while others quickly engage in conversation with you.

So what is it like to be a woman? Don’t feel great or superior to a woman. Respect her opinion and don’t underestimate her. That will open the way to know her very well to understand the sort of creatures women are.

The Truth And Other Lies

German scriptwriter Arango’s exceptional first novel, a highly entertaining thriller, focuses on Henry Hayden, a successful author who lives in a “nondescript coastal town.” Wealthy beyond imagination, he appears to be a loving husband to his wife, Martha, and is so humble that people automatically like him.

Gem

In truth, the vain and selfish Henry is seeing a mistress, Betty Hansen, who’s also his editor, and a few other women besides. As for those bestsellers, Henry never wrote one word—Martha did, allowing him to take credit as long as her authorial role remained a secret.

Henry’s carefully constructed world is in danger when Betty becomes pregnant. His decision to take drastic action results in an accidental death. Dodging the police inquiry and an old acquaintance determined to expose his erratic past, Henry takes charge of his own fate. Wry humor punctuates this insightful look at a soulless man.

Blood Street – An Urban Fantasy Novel By Carl Alves

“I like to describe Blood Street as True Blood meets The Sopranos, taking place in the streets of Philadelphia.” – Carl Alves
Blood 4

To my knowledge, vampires and mobsters have never been combined in this manner in literature (or any other form of media) before.  So, I think this makes Blood Street a fairly unique book. I’ve certainly never read a novel quite like this one before.  It was also a helluva lot of fun to right.  What I most enjoy to write (and I what I think do a really job with) are fight scenes.  This novel is chocked full of them.  Having fight scenes that involve vampires gave me quite a bit of freedom in writing them, since I didn’t have to stick to the boundaries of things that would be physically impossible for humans.  Vampires don’t have such limitations, so I was able to do quite a bit more with them.

Blood Street is a fast paced thriller. The action, the drama, and the intrigue never relent.  I wanted to write a novel that the reader would have a hard time putting down, and I hope I have achieved that with this novel.

Setting is also very important to the story.  My native Philadelphia is almost like a character in the story, and if you have ever spent any time in the city, I think you will get a kick out of it.  However, the book spans far and wide in a series of flashbacks, taking place in Spain, Norway, Brazil, Egypt, Germany and Newfoundland.    Get your passport ready and be prepared to take a trip around the globe.

Finally, the vampires that you will encounter in Blood Street are not the sparkly kind featured in Twilight.  These are real, honest to goodness nasty vampires, and the mobsters they encounter are just as mean and nasty. Get ready for an old fashioned street fight and find out who will survive on Blood Street.

The Dead Lands, A Novel By Benjamin Percy

In Benjamin Percy’s new thriller, a post-apocalyptic reimagining of the Lewis and Clark saga, a super flu and nuclear fallout have made a husk of the world we know. A few humans carry on, living in outposts such as the Sanctuary-the remains of St. Louis-a shielded community that owes its survival to its militant defense and fear-mongering leaders.

Dead 7

Then a rider comes from the wasteland beyond its walls. She reports on the outside world: west of the Cascades, rain falls, crops grow, civilization thrives. But there is danger too: the rising power of an army that pillages and enslaves every community they happen upon.

Against the wishes of the Sanctuary, a small group sets out in secrecy. Led by Lewis Meriwether and Mina Clark, they hope to expand their infant nation, and to reunite the States. But the Sanctuary will not allow them to escape without a fight.
