Tribute To Johan Cruyff: One Of The World’s Greatest Footballers

Cruyff

The good old days of Johan Cruyff in action.

There are thousands of footballers worldwide, but few make history in the field of soccer. Cruyff represented Holland on 48 occasions and scored 33 times for the national side, helping them reach the final at the 1974 World Cup.

I remember while working at Hotel Okura in Amsterdam, one of my colleagues called Mario, who was a fan of Cruyff, always had the picture of the young days the footballer in his wallet. He removed the picture from his wallet and asked me if I can recognise who he was. “Johan Cruyff, he is my hero too, I said.”

Yes, a great footballer has fans and I ‘m proud to say that I’m one of them. The Dutch legend Johan died peacefully in Barcelona on Thursday after losing his battle with lung cancer.

The former Ajax and Barcelona passed away surrounded by his family after he was initially diagnosed last October. Cruyff is regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time and went on to enjoy huge success as a coach.

We shall greatly miss him. His place no one can fill, because he is one person, Johan Cruyff. His achievement in the field of soccer history shall remain forever.

Cruyff 2Sporting his famous long locks, Cruyff turns out for Ajax in June 1971. On June 2 that year, in London, Ajax won the European Cup by defeating Panathinaikos 2–0. At the end of the season, he became not only the Dutch but also the European Footballer of the Year.

Cruyff was a heavy smoker until undergoing major heart surgery in 1991 while manager of Barcelona.

Great African-Americans Who Were Once In Ghana

Ali 5

Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay’s) visit to Ghana in 1964: In the photo with Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, first president of Ghana.

Among all the West African countries, Ghana, the country formally called Gold Coast, is one of the famous countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Apart from being one of the peaceful countries in West Africa, Ghana has been also one of the most visited countries in Africa by Africans in the Diaspora.

There is a reason Ghana is attracted to Africans in the Diaspora. Echoes of sad music in the air can be heard from Cape Coast, attracting thousands of tourists including African-Americans and other Africans in the Diaspora to visit Ghana, where their ancestors were packed like a sardine into ships for slavery.

Apart from the fact that many Africans in the Diaspora go to Ghana to trace their roots or find their ancestors, Ghana was once under one of Africa’s most powerful and intelligent leaders, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. He was the first African statesman to achieve world recognition when he became president of the new Republic of Ghana in 1960 after Ghana attains its independence in 1957.

He campaigned ceaselessly for African solidarity and for the liberation of southern Africa from white settler rule. His greatest achievement was to win the right of black peoples in Africa, to have a vote and to determine their own destiny. Nkrumah’s popularity which was like a bushfire in the dry season brought him fame and also created a lot of enemies against him.

Many famous African-Americans, including Malcolm X, W.E.B Du Bois, Stevie Wonder, Maya Angelou etc. were all in Ghana. In the summer of 1964, Muhammad Ali took a trip to Ghana, a remarkable visit the boxer called “a return to the fatherland.” In the VIP room of the Accra Airport, he was greeted by Ghana’s Foreign Minister Kojo Botsio. According to a report,  about 10,000 African Americans visit Ghana yearly, and almost 3,000 of them live in the capital, Accra.

On February 24th, 1966, Nkrumah was overthrown in a coup, master-minded by the CIA, after surviving many assassination attempts. He fled to the Republic of Guinea to be with his friend Sekou Touré for a number of years and spent his later years in exile in Bucharest, Romania and died on 27 April 1972.

Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life

Book Review By James G. Salmons
This is one of Brian Tracy’s best books, if not the best, and should be included in anyone’s library if they are interested in the subject of personal achievement. For those new to the field who need to know the basics it is possibly the best introduction you could get. For those who are well informed it does contain important information not found elsewhere.
LIFE 1
It is hard to believe some critics of this book have actually read it. Check it out for yourself. I am an avid reader of Brian Tracy and have led seminars myself on many of the subjects he presents. This is clearly one of his best. Here are some facts:
While this book does repeat many of the ideas you will find in his other books, there is excellent new material as well, and in many cases he adds to previous concepts–sometimes short but exciting ideas that offer a potential to help people make dramatic improvements in their lives. One feature of this book that is not as common in his other works is the reference to numerous studies by universities and other research groups that demonstrate the validity of the concepts presented.
It is helpful to know the basis and validity of these ideas. The chief value of this book when compared to Brian’s other books, or to other books in the field, is that it focuses on the key concept for all thinking about successful living and personal achievement–how you think determines everything. Other works focus on goal setting, time management, and other topics in a somewhat isolated way. This work discusses these but in the context of a person’s attitude toward them as the key to success.
This is a subtle but important concept. It is unfortunate that some people who have read widely in the field have downgraded this book by giving it a low rating simply because they already know much of the material. On this basis the very best first grade reader would receive one star by a fifth grader because he/she already knew all the words.
This is an outstanding book and deserves five stars on the basis of what it is, not put down because somewhere in over thirty volumes written by the author he may have touched on most of the topics found here. (But remember, there is enough new material to make it worth buying even if you have many of his other works.)Get it. Read it. It will change your life.

Think And Grow Rich, Business Book For A Better Life

A must for anyone wanting to improve their lives and their positive thinking. There have been more millionaires and indeed, billionaires, who have made their fortunes as a result of reading this success classic than any other book every printed. NAPOLEON HILLS’s “Think and Grow Rich” is the authors most famous work.

Business 4

This is the COMPLETE Reference Book. A true masterpiece with the fundamentals of the Success philosophy. ***** ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Napoleon Hill was an American author who was one of the earliest producers of the modern genre of personal-success literature. His most famous work, Think and Grow Rich, is one of the best-selling books of all time.

Hill’s works examined the power of personal beliefs, and the role they play in personal success. “What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve” is one of Hill’s hallmark expressions. How achievement actually occurs, and a formula for it that puts success in reach for the average person, were the focal points of Hill’s books. ******

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, about “Think and Grow Rich”: Think and Grow Rich is a motivational personal development and self-help book written by Napoleon Hill and inspired by a suggestion from Scottish-American businessman Andrew Carnegie. While the title implies that this book deals only with how to get rich, the author explains that the philosophy taught in the book can be used to help people succeed in all lines of work and to do or be almost anything they want.

For instance, Jim Murray (sportswriter) wrote that Think and Grow Rich was credited for Ken Norton’s boxing upset of Muhammad Ali in 1973. The Reverend Charles Stanley writes “I began to apply the principles of (Think and Grow Rich) to my endeavors as a pastor, and I discovered they worked!” The book was first published during the Great Depression. At the time of Hill’s death in 1970, Think and Grow Rich had sold 20 million copies.

It remains the biggest seller of Napoleon Hill’s books – a perennial best-seller after 70 years (BusinessWeek Magazine’s Best-Seller List ranked Think and Grow Rich as the sixth best-selling paperback business book 70 years after it was first published). Think and Grow Rich is listed in John C. Maxwell’s A Lifetime “Must Read” Books List.

The text of Think and Grow Rich is founded on Hill’s earlier work The Law of Success, the result of more than twenty years of research based on Hill’s close association with a large number of individuals who achieved great wealth during their lifetimes. At Andrew Carnegie’s bidding, Hill studied the characteristics of these achievers and developed 16 “laws” of success intended to be applied by anybody to achieve success.

Think and Grow Rich condenses these laws further and provides the reader with 13 principles in the form of a philosophy of personal achievement. It is noted in the book, that an individual with desire, faith, and persistence can reach great heights by eliminating all negative energy and thoughts and focusing at the greater goals in hand.
