The Advice Of The Elder Is Stronger Than The Fetish Priest

Father 4Many black families pray before and after eating

A 30-year-old man visited his father who could no longer see very well. As both of them sat in front of the house chatting, a dove flew in and perched on the window. The old man asked his son “Is that a dove that perched on the window?” “Yes dad,” the son replied.

After a short while, he asked the same question a second time and got the same answer. When he asked the same question the third time, the son became angry and rebuked him saying “This is why I hate visiting you, you keep repeating questions.

The old man was silent for about ten minutes and then asked his son to go into his bedroom and fetch his old diary. Then he asked his son to read page two of the dairy. It reads.

“My son is three years old today. As we sat in front of the house playing, a dove flew in and perched on the window. My son asked me thirty times if it was a dove. I gladly replied ‘Yes,” to each question. I can’t explain in words how happy I am that my son has learned to talk. What a wonderful day to remember?

The young man dropped the diary on the ground, cried and apologized to his father. The old man spoke again “one mistake can’t make you a less man, but repeating the mistake over and over can kill any man.

I’ve chosen today to teach you a final lesson before I depart from this world. The lesson for today is patience. Always be kind and consider to the less privileged, this is how you’ll stand out in eternity. Be nice to everybody on your way up. You will definitely  meet them again on your way down.

The person you looked down today, may turn out to be the person you need tomorrow. Let us learn to walk in patience and tolerate each other even in adverse conditions.

The Pride Of Our Generation As Obedient Children

Hap 3A happy Ghanaian woman and child: Art work by Peter Asare

We are in a generation of disobedient children comparing to our time. We, the people born between 1940-1970 in Ghana, are the most blessed ones. We are awesome people and our life is a living proof.

While playing and riding rented bicycle, we never bothered to wear helmets. We played Oware, Ampe,  Kwaakwaa (Hide and seek) asosor, tumatu (Ghanaian games) and skipping rope etc, without thinking about television, video or computer games.

After school (those days, we went to school two times a day) we played until dusk but never watched the world (Television) by locking up ourselves in a room. We played only with our real friends, not with http://www.com friends.

If we ever felt thirsty, we drank tap water or stream water, bottled water didn’t exist but there wasn’t any Ebola or pneumococcal meningitis  We never got ill even after sharing the same juice or sweet with four friends

We were happy after our fufu, kokonte, etsew, ampesi. (Ghanaian dishes.) There weren’t any fried rice or ‘foes chicken.’ We ate rice and chicken only on special days. (Christmas, New Year, Easter etc.) Even then , we will go anywhere with our fresh chicken legs and wings in our hands, for everyone to know that we’ve eaten rice.

Nothing happened to our feet after roaming and kicking balls made of rags bare footed. We never used any health supplements to keep ourselves healthy. We used to create our own toys. Our parents were not rich but they never chased after money.

They just searched for and gave only love. They were proud to see us around them. These days parents are chasing after money and riches that they ignore the presence of their kids. We never used to share our emotions by using emoticons, DVDs, Play Stations, X-Boxes, video games, personal computers, internet, web chatting, but we had many good friends and communication was face to face.

We used to go to our friends’ home unannounced and enjoyed food with them. We never had to call them and ask for their parents’ permission to visit their home. Loving people were near to us, so our hearts and souls were happy. Hence, we never required insurance policy or fake spiritual support.

We might have been in Black and White photos but you find colourful memories in them. The ultimate is that we are unique and the most understanding generation because we are the last generation who listened to our parents and also the first that have to listen to our children.

I am proud to belong to that noble Generation.

The Mysterious Sandwich Thief

Sandwich

In Europe and America, an innocent black man likely becomes a suspect because of the colour of his skin. At the premises of the industrial cleaning company, are workers from various countries, including Africans. For almost three months, the company we were working for, takes us to another industrial company in the district of Antwerp, called FABRICOM, to work there.

Fabricom is a construction company occupying a very large terrace. The company installs and maintains electricity installations, video surveillance, heating etc. Like the officials, the industrial workers also used containers as offices, toilets and dining hall.

The work at Fabricom was very heavy, thus; among hardworking operational staff, we do eight hours per day and most of the time, I drive a forklift. At 12 P.M, we have our lunch break. It was launch time we detected that some of the workers’ launch box had gone missing.

To work very hard and to find out that your lunch box is missing or stolen, is an issue too tough to handle. This didn’t happen once or twice but daily. Action speaks louder than words. Being Africans among white workers, all eyes were on us as the suspect, even though we weren’t accused of any theft.

At the dining hall, the atmosphere becomes tense, when on the fifth day of the week, one of the workers finds his food stolen again. This time, the management decides to do something about it. They secretly started their investigations, creating undetected hideout aiming to catch the person responsible for this theft red-handed.

The following week, about a quarter to noonday, a mysterious man emerged into the quiet dining hall, looking for a meal to steal. After tasting a number of meals, he finds a delicious one and he took it. As he tries to walk out he was intercepted.

Shockingly, out of over hundreds of workers at the company, the mysterious thief appeared to be one of our colleagues from Portugal. He was interrogated but the company didn’t call the police. Instead, they informed the boss of our company of what has happened.

Fabricom wouldn’t like to see the thief at the company’s premises again, so the company I was serving sent the Portuguese to another place to work. Sometimes it’s very hard to be judged wrongly because of the colour of your skin, but that shouldn’t prevent us to build a good relationship, with our neighbours, colleagues and our bosses.

His Body Disappeared From The Morgue

Mortuary 2

Aftermath of the serious headlong coalition involving two buses, which claimed ten lives on the spot, the fire service was called in to pull out the dead bodies from the wreckage. Identification wasn’t easy because of the state of the corpses, yet a woman identifies one of the corpses as her brother. He was an auto mechanic. His tool box which was with him before the tragedy occurred was found close to his dead body.

She rushes home wailing, to narrate the sad news to her mother and father. They quickly rushed to the scene but the bodies were already transferred to the mortuary. When they went to the mortuary, they saw their son’s body and the tool box among the items of those who lost their lives. It wasn’t a mistaken identity because Jame’s name is boldly written on his tool box. It was the saddest day for James’ family. When the family were leaving the mortuary, they went home with the deceased’s tool box.

When ready to bury James, they went to the mortuary to collect his body, but the body was nowhere to be found. The corpse has disappeared from the morgue without a trace. Their fears increased when they found out later at home that his tool box has also vanished. It was as if the mind is playing tricks on them but it is a reality.

Years passed, then one day, a woman from the village where the mechanic died, saw him working in an auto garage, in one of the big cities hundreds of kilometers from the village. “James, everyone thought you were dead after the accident. Why for a very long time you’ve failed to visit your mother and father aftermath the accident? The woman noticed something strange about James. Even though he didn’t give her an answer, she conluded: “Tomorrow I will tell your parents that I saw you here.”

When the woman went back to the village she quickly sped towards James’ family compound to tell them what she had seen. They refused to accept her story, asking if she is out of her mind, but she insisted that she is speaking the truth. The following day, they quickly joined the bus to where the mechanic is working but he was absent that day.

According to the director of the garage where James works, he received a message from one of his colleagues that he wasn’t feeling well and therefore will not be at work. Astonishingly, from the day James failed to come to work, he has never been seen again with his tool box. Is he going to begin a new life in another garage? Asked James family. The strange story remains a mystery.

The Hunter Who Couldn’t Find The Leaf Of Life

Certain stories make your ears tingle and captures your attention

Two snakes fighting

Certain stories make your ears tingle, capture your attention and make you feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Since childhood, I have heard certain stories from my original native country, Ghana. Many of these stories are real, like that of Okomfo Anokye, who danced and chanted down the golden stool from heaven.

Since the golden stool is still available in the Ashanti Kingdom and the sword he planted and said no one can pull it out, still stands at the place, there is no room to say that the stories are untrue.

I still think about this story, because I don’t know if it’s true or false. A hunter went hunting for a deer to feed his family. It was very sunny, as usual in tropical Africa. Tired and thirsty, he leaned his back against a tree, as he sits in the shade of a very big tree. Adjacent him, he witnessed something he had never experienced in his entire life as a professional hunter.

The hunter was treated to a dramatic fight between two deadly snakes. The fight which lasted over thirty minutes resulted in the death of one of the snakes. The hunter wasn’t sure if the snake was actually dead or was in coma because the creature was lifeless and every effort of the other snake to revive the dead reptile or bring it back to life was futile.

The live snake abandoned its lifeless opponent and went into the bush. Less than a minute the reptile emerged from the bush with a leaf in its mouth and inserted into the mouth of the dead snake, then suddenly the creature woke up and the two retreated into the bush. The amazed hunter tried to find the leaf the snake brought to wake the dead, but his search yielded to fruitless result.

He was totally disappointed and frustrated, as the wise snake didn’t leave behind a piece of the leaf for him to identify what that magic leaf was.  Could that leaf wake up a dead body? That was the question spinning in his mind. This is more than a mystery. God will never reveal everything to man because of greed. The rich would have bought everything to live forever and the poor man would never get the chance to enjoy a second life.

Children’s Story: Why The Sheep Often Stands In The Middle Of The Road But The Goat Wouldn’t

Stories play vital role in the lives of children. Years back, our ancestors create stories to entertain children. There are thousands of African stories for children.

Everyone knows how stubborn the Goat is and humble the Sheep is, yet they put aside their differences to become friends.

In an argument, the Goat told the Sheep: “You are very stupid.” And the Sheep told the Goat: “Don’t let my humbleness deceive you, because I’m one of the wisest creatures on earth.”

Goat 4

The goat escapes through the window of the bus, after failing to pay his fare  for the journey.

“Why are you called ‘The Stubborn Goat? Let me remind you of this reference in Psalm 109:3, about me: The Sheep quotes, “You know that the Lord, he is God! It is he, who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” “Because you are stubborn, your reference in the Bible is “Separating Goats from Sheep,” you better change your ways, to inherit the Kingdom of God.” The Sheep concluded.

What the Sheep told Goat, touched him emotionally that he decides to repent and change his ways. He suggested to the Sheep that they should embark on a journey to have a good time, to enable him learn more from him and the Sheep agreed. The fully prepared Sheep took everything he needs for the journey, including money to buy food.

Even though the Goat is aware of what they need for the journey, he took everything and ignored taking some money with him. It seems the greedy and stubborn Goat isn’t yet ready to change his bad habits. Mid way in the journey, the driver’s mate starts collecting the fare from passengers. Everyone in the bus, including Sheep paid, but the Goat told the mate: “My money is deep in my pocket, I will pay you when we reach our destination.”

The driver’s mate refused to accept Goat’s explanation, because he knows how cunning Goat is. He told Goat: “I will only agree to your proposal if you allow me to put this rope around your neck, so that you might not escape.” The answer goat wasn’t expecting made him start sweating profusely. Goat knows that he has no choice than to escape. While the vehicle still in motion, the desperate Goat leaped through one of the opened window’s of the bus, leaving his seat and Sheep behind.

SHEEP 2

The sheep stands in the middle of the road waiting for the driver’s mate to collect back his change.

The stupefied Sheep was shocked to the extent that he forgets to collect his change, after making the payment to the driver’s mate, while Goat’s name was added to the wanted people’s list. This is the reason the Goat many times escapes when he sees an approaching vehicle, while Sheep stands in the middle of the street, waiting for the driver’s mate, to collect back his forgotten change.
